Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well.
As I announced before, starting today, alongside the Fire Emblem related CCC rounds, there will be parallel rounds that will feature either characters from other Intellectual Properties or Original Characters you’ll create.
This time, it will be Original Characters.
The rules of the CCC will remain more or less the same for those rounds.
I’ve updated the rules to better reflect those changes, but if you’re already familiar with them, there is no need to read them again.
What is important to keep in mind is the following, classified as rule #7:
Characters must be fully original.
However, they can be inspired by pre-existing characters of any media, share certain features, if done by splicing, for instance.
I’ve also read every message that has been written on the last round’s thread.
I want to thank everyone for their feedback. It seems the lack of time and interest in the selected themes is what prevents some people from participating.
Regarding the former, this time, I’ll let the creative phase be two months instead of one, not only because it is different from the previous rounds, but also to see if it allows for more participation.
Depending on your feedback, I’ll keep it that way for the next rounds, whether it is only for the Original Characters or also for the Fire Emblem themed ones.
For the latter, I hope this slightly new format can help the people tired of Fire Emblem characters they’ve already seen a lot in the past or that they don’t appreciate, with completely original ones.
I hope this will also intrigue less experienced artists to participate, as they won’t need to reproduce already existing characters, but create whatever they wish, with the skills they have.
It can also be better reflected in the voting system, where creativity can win over more refined portraits.

What is the CCC
The CCC is an art contest where the participants create portraits for various characters to expand the FE Fangame Essentials, a resource that compiles Fire Emblem-related assets, including portraits, battle animations, music, amongst others, to create Fire Emblem content or rom-hacking in general.
The artists may represent the characters following the round’s theme in any way they like.
For existing characters, they can be in their classic attire or have re-designs, including but not limited to de-ageing or ageing the characters, giving them new outfits or attributes, genderbending them, cosplaying them, etc, as long as they are recognisable and keep defining features of said characters.
This contest isn’t targeted towards a specific audience. Despite being a contest, it is very casual, and everyone is encouraged to partake in this contest, no matter their skill level and experience. The main goal is to have fun and create portraits for the Community to use and enjoy!
Rules
1.
All submissions to this contest will be F2E by default unless stated otherwise by the artist! This contest involves expanding the resources available for the Portrait Repository, but I understand not everyone participating wishes their work to be F2U or F2E.
2.
Artists may create custom battle animations, music, map sprites, or any form of art related to the featured characters, however, only posts with a portrait will be eligible for the vote.
3.
Artists may create an alternate outfit/design/etc for one or multiple characters, if they wish.
4.
Artists may submit multiple designs, if they wish. They will all count toward their one submission vote. (Voters will vote on all of the works they created at once)
5.
No pre-existing artwork! The point of this contest is to expand the repository. It would be unfair to compete against artwork that may have had several weeks or months of editing work put into it ahead of time.
6.
Eye/mouth frames are preferable but optional. They aren’t necessary, but it would be awesome if they were included!
7.
Characters must be fully original.

8.
All characters must be sprited in GBA format!
(Hackbox size is not necessary)
(Halfbodies/fullbodies are authorised)
(Please try to keep the colour count at or below 16, that would be great.)
9.
Submissions must at least somewhat respect the theme of the current round!
10.
First Place picks three themes, which are groups or categories that include a variety of characters (such as classes, roles in the story, related characters, and archetypes…), and Second Place picks two other themes for the next round, then the community gets to vote among the 5 they prefer!

This month’s theme is main characters, protagonists.
While typically associated with the lord class and blue hair, the characters you will create do not need to follow this trend, yet they must have unique features and a certain charisma that will not only make their design interesting but also set them apart from the less significant characters in the story.
In short, they need to be memorable!
They can be used for your personal rom-hack or other projects, but as stated before, as rule #5: “No pre-existing artwork”
Usually, I show references for the characters you’ll need to draw, but considering you won’t recreate an existing character but make unique ones, I’ll showcase main characters from popular hacks, as well as videos I found on YouTube on how to make character designs.
This is not by any means an exhaustive list, only what I found with a bit of research. Nevertheless, if you wish to share anything you might find relevant for this exercise, please feel free to share it, with its source, also notifying that it isn’t a submission in case you want to share a GBA character portrait.
