CCC - Manakete and Beast Units (June/July 2025)

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well.

I wanted to thank you all for your participation in the last round. I was happily surprised to see more involvement and even newcomers. I hope this concept remains enjoyable for many. If you have any suggestions or feedback on how to improve the formula, feel free to reach out!

I made a slight change again regarding the perks of winning first or second place.
The first-place winner can choose 3 themes for the next round, while the second-place winner can submit 2 themes, for a total of 5 propositions for the community to vote on.
In case of ties, the 5 propositions will be split according to the first and second-place placements.

As to those who might not understand what a “theme” implies, please let me write an explanation:

By theme, that can mean something that can encapsulate various characters, by being vast enough but also restricted to a certain category to keep an idea of what to do.
The types of themes could be based on the role of characters in the story of archetypes, such as the main lord, the antagonists, the Jagen, Est, Camus, or Christmas cavaliers among many others.
It can also be tied to a specific class line, like pegasus knights, swordmasters, or paladins.
It can be centered on one game, or a series of games set in the same universe, for instance, Elibe, Tellius, or Jugdral.
It can also focus on a specific group of characters, including the Black Fang, the Dawn Brigade, or the Magi group.

The phrasing is important to nuance possible different ideas.
For instance, bow users are different from archers, the former englobs all units in a class that prominently uses bows, whereas the latter is restricted to the archer class line.

Only having themes and no longer specific characters means that artists won’t be restricted to only making art pieces of characters they might not like; however, with themes being more abstract, we’ll still have to define what kind of characters are eligible each round.

Nevertheless, I’ll still present a few characters each round that follow said theme, generally characters that don’t have a lot of portraits or any, like I did before, but those won’t be mandatory, barely suggestions for those who wouldn’t know which character to make art for.

I’ve written this change in the rules; however, if it isn’t clear enough and you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

What is the CCC

The CCC is an art contest where the participants create portraits for Fire Emblem characters to expand the FE Fangame Essentials, a resource that compiles Fire Emblem-related assets, including portraits, battle animations, music, amongst others to create Fire Emblem content or rom-hacking in general.

The artists may represent the featured characters we’re used to in many ways, whether they’ll be their classic attire or re-designs including but not limited to de-ageing or ageing the characters, giving them new outfits or attributes, genderbending them, cosplaying them, etc… as long as they are recognizable and keep defining features of said characters.

This contest isn’t targeted towards a specific audience. Despite being a contest, it is very casual and everyone is encouraged to partake in this contest, no matter their skill level and experience, the main goal is to have fun and create portraits for the Community to use and enjoy!

Rules

1.

All submissions to this contest will be F2E by default unless stated otherwise by the artist! This contest involves expanding the resources available for the Portrait Repository, but I understand not everyone participating wishes their work to be F2U or F2E.

2.

Artists may create custom battle animations, music, map sprites, or any form of art related to the featured characters, however, only posts with a portrait will be eligible for the vote.

3.

Artists may create an alternate outfit/design/etc for one or multiple characters, if they wish.

4.

Artists may submit multiple designs, if they wish. They will all count toward their one submission vote. (Voters will vote on all of the works they created at once)

5.

No pre-existing artwork! The point of this contest is to expand the repository. It would be unfair to compete against artwork that may have had weeks or months of editing work put into it.

6.

Eye/mouth frames are preferable but optional. They aren’t necessary, but it would be awesome if they would be included!

7.

Characters must either be from the main Fire Emblem titles or one of the Fire Emblem spinoffs, such as Heroes.

8.

All characters must be sprited in GBA format!
(Hackbox size is not necessary)
(Halfbodies/fullbodies are authorised)
(Please try to keep the colour count at or below 16, that would be great)

9.

Submissions must at least somewhat resemble the original character!

10.

First Place picks three themes, which are groups or categories that include a variety of characters (such as swordmasters, villains, protagonists, and archetypes…), and Second Place picks two other themes for the next round, then the community gets to vote among the 5 they prefer!

Schedule
  • The artists may submit their work until one month after each round is announced.
  • Then, the following week, everyone can vote for their favorite submissions.
  • The voting period is then followed by a break of a week before a new round starts, meaning a round lasts one month and two weeks in total, but the deadline will be reiterated further down on the post.

This month’s theme is half-human characters, which includes any transformation unit, such as Manaketes, and beast units, generally using either stones or other unconventional weapon types.

You can submit artwork for any character that would fit these criteria, but I’ll suggest five of them below who don’t have much representation in the FE Repository, despite their popularity, and to represent diverse characters fitting that theme.

  • Character 1: Nagi, Dragon Avatar, from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

  • Character 2: Naesala, Sky’s Shadow from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

  • Character 3: Panne, Proud Taguel from Fire Emblem Awakening

  • Character 4: Rafal, Atoning Dragon from Fire Emblem Engage

  • Character 5: Freya, Lady of Nightmare from Fire Emblem Heroes

For those of you who aren’t quite sure about what sorts of designs you could make, you can click on each character’s name to access their wiki pages, complete with alternate designs and artwork.
Reach into your imagination, and the first place could be yours!

The deadline is July 15th.

To not miss any future rounds, you can now join the CCC Discord Server, on there, I announce every new round, voting period and results.

Have fun and happy Pride Month! :rainbow_flag:

Does Xane count?

Yes, I would say so!

I have no idea what’s going on here but there’s a rendering error on the Panne image where she’s in a forest running on all fours in her humanoid form. Look at the foot extended downwards. It should be layered above the ground, not layered under it and fading away like she’s part ghost. Something else feels off about the image too, I just don’t know the words to describe it. Is the art of panne a jpeg resized onto a different jpeg?

First time submission (so I hope Im doing this right)!!

GBA-Insertable Naesala (featuring his wings!) F2U/E

Hello everyone.
How are you?
I hope you are well.

I swear I thought I wouldn’t be able to participate this time, but here I am.

Someone told me Ash already has a portrait, but I already started when they told me.

Yes, she’s a laguz. She turns into a cow.

Alt expressions for practice. Maybe someone could use them for emotes?

It all started with Ninian...

Xane FE1.

Ended up making the jawline less round to avoid a baby face, but still kept the original skintone that includes orange. Didn’t intend for the mug to look so miserable but makes sense as Xane was imprisoned. More and more I thought that maybe Xane’s plain clothes that contrast with the FE3 design were intended to be prison clothes. There is no official art of the NES design but there is a battle sprite!
