Questions about the CCC

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing well.

I usually do surveys during the month of April, but I was recently asked a few questions about the CCC that I felt I needed to ask the Community for feedback.

For those who will stumble on this post without any knowledge of the CCC, I highly recommend checking at least one of them to give you an idea but put it simply, it’s a creative contest where artists have to do sprites/portraits of certain Fire Emblem characters in the GBA style under a time limit to expand the Fire Emblem Repository, where all free to use assets for making GBA style Fire Emblem content is compiled, you can check the latest post >>here<<

I was asked if the themes and featured characters for the CCC could be extended to other franchises, aside from Fire Emblem. FEU is a website dedicated to Fire Emblem, and the CCC was made, among other things, to have more assets to use for making Fire Emblem fan games and content. I’m not opposed to the idea, yet I feel like the CCC should still focus on Fire Emblem.
However, for making art of different characters in a similar vein, I made COCO, which wasn’t a success. Perhaps the issue here is that the artist chooses the IP for the next person but not themselves, and is still limited to what the last person suggested, thus they can’t freely draw what they want.

Therefore, this made me wonder if you would like to see a similar format to the CCC: a creative contest with a limited period, a theme and a voting system to make all kinds of characters.
Allow me to ask you a few questions regarding the CCC itself and those possible concepts:

Would you like to see the CCC format focus on something else than Fire Emblem?
  • Yes
  • No

If so, what kind of characters should those new contests be about?
  • Characters from IPs other than Fire Emblem
  • Completely Original Characters
  • Both (as separate contests)
0 voters
When should they happen?
  • Alongside the classic FE-focused rounds
  • Alternating between the classic FE-focused rounds and the new ones
  • More frequently than FE-focused rounds
  • Less frequently than FE-focused rounds
  • Very rarely (once a year)

Should the rules be altered?
  • Yes (please develop in answers)
  • No (current rules are appropriate)
0 voters
Should reminders to participate in the CCC be more frequent?
  • No (only make an announcement when it starts)
  • Once at the halfway point
  • One week before the end of the current round
  • Every week
  • Other (please develop in answers)

Should we hold this kind of survey in the future?
  • Yes
  • No

To not miss any future rounds, you can join the CCC Discord Server, on there, I announce every new round, voting period and results.

Thank you all for your participation, it means a lot to me. I wish you all a wonderful day!

My idea is to not have any “special” rounds, but instead if someone wants to sprite an OC or other character, they should just go in the same round with FE characters if they fit in the given theme. For example if someone submitted some werewolf to the current round.

Some themes such as “Pegasus Knight” may be more FE focused and unlikely to see any outside characters, but still allow OCs. Others may be more broad and bring unfamiliar faces.

If any uncertainty exists about a character’s eligibility to the theme (which already does exist among certain FE characters, as I asked about Xane in the current round) they need merely ask. If somehow a mug is submitted but deemed out-of-theme, it will be ineligible to vote for but still added to the Repo and become F2U/F2E.

This seems like the natural progression to me. The entire theme system was introduced to broaden the scope, so why limit it?
