[FE8] Fire Emblem: Sacred Heroes, or FE8 with FEH units

I am excited to announce the release of FIRE EMBLEM: SACRED HEROES, a romhack of Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones (USA release) for the GBA! This romhack replaces the playable cast with 40 characters from the Fire Emblem: Heroes mobile game. It attempts to blend the playstyles of the GBA FE games with that of newer games (and, naturally, Heroes in particular) by adding in a slew of new features.

Please note that this patch does NOT change the majority of the story content. Any dialogue before or after a chapter will remain unchanged. Most dialogue within a chapter (such as recruitment conversations, boss dialogues, death quotes, or random talk events) have been altered.

Changes include:

  • 40 playable characters

  • New classes

  • New items

  • 26 new support chains

  • Str/Mag separated and introduction of mixed physical & magical classes

  • Skills (skill system patch credits: Circleseverywhere Monkeybard & Black Mage for most of the skill icons; Blaze for Stances skill icons. Tequila, Rossendale, StanH, Leonarth, Teraspark, sd9k, Kao, blademaster, Snakey1 for skills. Primefusion for the test map.)

  • And more!

As of present (11/1/25), this romhack is MOSTLY finished. The only truly unfinished things are supports. The finished supports are listed in the documentation, but more supports listings are present in the game with placeholder text. I do intend to come back and finish them at a later date, but for now, I’m releasing what I have done. Obviously, you will need to procure your own rom of Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones to apply this patch to.

All new assets are taken from the Fire Emblem GBA Asset Repository, witch the exception of a handful of original item icons.

I do plan to add more supports at the very least. Beyond that, I’m deliberately not tampering with things like story. If I started doing that, I don’t think I’d be able to stop myself from editing maps to match the new story stuff, and… well, it would just snowball from there.

As for music, I do compose, actually, though I haven’t looked into editing or creating GBA FE music. I won’t say for certain that the answer is no, but there is a larger (unrelated) project I have going on that I’m not ready to reveal just yet. Music I’ve made recently has been for that. I don’t particularly intend to add custom music to Sacred Heroes at this time, but who knows? Maybe I’ll come back to it. Probably not, though.

Really, this is a bit of a Baby’s First Romhack. I don’t think it’ll end up being too expansive, or going far beyond what’s currently present. I intend to add more content, but again, mostly just more supports.

What happened to hodr the sniper after killing pablo? Hes not in my party. And also im missing the saleh char after the ewan level. Another thing is game freezes after carlysle and caellach convo in jehenna hall. Cant continue anymore game just freezes

Hm! That’s… odd. I didn’t encounter those issues when I tested it. I’ll try to figure out what’s going on and get it fixed.

I’m not actually sure what would cause that freeze. I don’t believe I changed anything… I’ll give it a look. Thank you for letting me know.

EDIT: Okay, silly mistakes on my part. I swapped a couple characters around for various reasons (tl;dr I changed recruitment order of some units across development), and I forgot to account for it in Chapter 10 of Eirika’s route. It’s checking whether or not Tethys’s replacement, Mirabilis, is there, which… she isn’t, because that’s not where you get that unit in this romhack, which in turn causes Gerik’s replacement, Hodr, to leave the party.

The reason you didn’t get a character in Saleh’s place is because of that same event-- that’s where you’re supposed to recruit Mirabilis. The event for Hodr (Gerik) leaving the party temporarily adds both Hodr (Gerik) and Mirabilis (Tethys) to the party before removing them. I’m… not really sure how I missed that. Like, they’re both absent in my completed save file, so it happened to me to. I just didn’t notice somehow.

As for the freeze in Jehenna Hall, I’m still working on figuring that one out. I think the game is trying to delete a character that doesn’t exist, which is… weird, because again, I didn’t edit anything in those cutscenes, and in fact there are already patches implemented to prevent freezes from occurring under those circumstances. This might sound silly, but, um, have you tried skipping the cutscene? Until I can figure out exactly why there’s a freeze occurring there, if that can get you past the freeze, I’d advise doing it.

I have uploaded a new version of the patch to hopefully fix the recruitment issues , though you won’t be able to get these units unless you restarted the game, I’m afraid (without using cheat codes). Still uncertain on the freeze, currently testing solutions.

Yea cant skip cutscene between them two.. either pressing b button or start button. B button goes to a frozen screen with music playing and start goes to a black screen with music playing still unable to do anything. Even just pressing the a button it freezes like the b button.

I’ve changed something that should hopefully fix things (if it doesn’t, I’ll keep trying things out until I get it working). Could you download the new version of the patch and let me know if it’s working correctly? If you have a savestate or something in that cutscene, you’d have to restart the chapter for the change to take effect.

If you patch a new rom and then replace the old one in whatever location you had it, as long as it’s under the same name, the emulator will open the save files from the previous version.

its working now had to do what you told me to do and restart chapter and now all is good.
