Playtesting Listings

Hey everyone, Atlas here!

There’s been a lot of discussion lately about the importance of playtesting, and as I continue working on my own project, I’ve come to truly appreciate the value of diverse feedback. Different perspectives bring fresh insights, and I’ve really enjoyed the conversations about mechanics and design choices that stem from playtesting.

After speaking with many rom hackers in the community, one common challenge has become clear: finding playtesters is difficult. Playing through hacks takes time, and doing it live can be especially demanding. While the FEU Discord does have a playtesting section, many requests go unnoticed or don’t receive much engagement.

The Purpose of This Thread

I’d like to create a dedicated space where rom hackers can share their projects and where playtesters can offer their time and expertise. My goal is to help connect creators with the feedback they need to refine and improve their work.

How This Thread Works

  • If you’re a creator looking for playtesters, post a comment here with details about your project and the type of feedback you’re seeking.
  • Playtesters can either respond in the thread or DM the creator directly.
  • All hacks are welcome, regardless of length—whether you need feedback on a single chapter or a full game.
  • Providing as much detail as possible will help attract playtesters! Share screenshots, describe the kind of feedback you’re looking for, and include links to your project thread, Discord server, or ups patch.

To make things easier, I’ve attached a template below for you to reference:

Playtesting Request Template

I’ve attached a template below for you to use or reference:

Creator Message: Hello Everyone my name is Atlas! I’m the creator of Tale of Valor, and I need some assistance with polishing for the first arc of my game. I’m looking for people to check for bugs, text errors, balance issues, and other feedback.

Chapters That Need Playtesting: Prologue Through Intermission 2

Synopsis of the Game: “Lueric a former soldier turned mercenary, is running from a past steeped in regret and debt. Recruited by his childhood friend, Esker, he joins her mercenary group to protect villages from scourges, bandits, and corrupt forces threatening the kingdom. As they fight to safeguard the innocent, Lueric must confront the shadows of his past and decide how far he’s willing to go to earn redemption and freedom. Along the way, the group faces dangerous enemies, uncovers secrets, and navigates moral dilemmas that will test their bonds and beliefs.”

Alright, I’ll try this as well.

Creator Message: Hi, my name is Augenis, I’m the author of Life of Seiros, it’s my first romhack that I didn’t expect to grow past chapter 3 but I’m now at chapter 11 and counting. I’m interested in overall gameplay and writing feedback - what needs polished and where is there an issue with balance, any bugs, text errors (English is not my first language so some may have slipped), and the direction of the story and the cutscenes overall. It’s not at all mandatory to have played Three Houses to play this hack - if anything, it might even be better if you have 0 knowledge of what goes on in there, as I hope to make my story understandable even to someone who never played 3H. Of course, though, feel free give it a go even if you’re the biggest 3H fan. But I do need to know if what I’m writing actually makes sense.

Chapters That Need Playtesting: Prologue to Chapter 11

Synopsis of the Game: The last surviving city of the Nabateans, Zanado, has been attacked and its inhabitants slaughtered by the bandit-turned-conqueror Nemesis. In a stroke of divine favor, the city’s last survivor, a young priestess named Rhea, is saved from an untimely demise and is transported to the future - where Nemesis rules, a clique of mysterious mages act as his advisors, and the handful of remaining Nabateans hide with their will to resist shattered. Joining forces with the errant knight Wilhelm, Rhea must journey Fódlan, gather the remnants of her people and human allies, build an army to one day take the fight to Nemesis, and, along the way, ask herself - what lines is she willing to cross to fulfill her mission of revenge?

Set in the history of FE: Three Houses, very vanilla-esque.

Great idea Atlas, thanks!

Creator Message: Howdy, I’m J-Lo (not Jenny from the block, sorry to disappoint)! I’m working on a Lex Talionis game with a new magic triangle: FE: Quintessence. I went to college to make games but I ended up in a more “vanilla” tech job. I’ve known about FE hacking for a while, but it wasn’t until I really looked into it that I saw how doable it was thanks to the large community and shared resources! So this gives me a chance to scratch that creative itch, along with DnD in which I DM and play a character in separate campaigns, and which helps give me a foothold when considering story and gameplay.

Chapters That Need Playtesting: Prologue to Chapter 6

Synopsis of the Game: In the land of Lyomidae, three rival nations have warred for millennia, each taking one aspect of the Person–Mind, Body, and Soul–as their flagship. Each aspect is governed by a school of magic–Erudite, Primal, and Spirit, respectively.

  • The Magocracy of Verrint: Mind–an advanced society driven to bring others to enlightenment, through diplomacy and colonization both; some are practitioners of learned Erudite magic
  • The Wilds of Massahr: Body–warring bands of nomads continually clash with each other and raid their neighbors for the thrill of battle and prestige; some are channellers of chaotic Primal magic
  • The Theocracy of Belisse: Soul–humble, self-sufficient and pious folk who worship the goddess Pneuma, recently rebelled against Verrint; some are gifted with Spirit magic

This story begins when Tallis, the young daughter of the Verrinti ambassador, is sent on a peacekeeping mission to Belisse. She begins her journey helping to rebuild villages destroyed by internal bandits and raiders from Massahr, but she will quickly learn that building bridges between nations so philosophically divided will take more than good intentions. It may even require something more…quintessential.

Beyond the new magic triangle (and removal of staves!), does not stray too far from vanilla FE.

Creator Message Hey y’all. I’d like to ask if anyone would be interested in playtesting my project I’m working on. As of this writing, I’m working on the final chapters, and most of the work needed to complete the project would be fresh eyes to get a good gander at it.

Assistance with grammar, balance, and enemy placement are what I’m most interested in receiving feedback on, but whatever floats your boat is fine too.

Chapters That Need Playtesting: Part 1 (chapters 1-8), and Part 2 (chapters 9-14)

Story Summary (If You're Interested)

Prince Eric of Greais sets out to rescue his fiance from a band of bandits who call themselves the Exciled Serpents. Down a winding road full of suprises, Eric joined close friends, Malcom and Aceine, has to muster the courage to face his fears, and sollow his pride. Meanwhile, A man named Ciman and his trading carravan are mistakened as pirates, and are forced to enlist in the protecton of the Alin Village surroundings. As Ciman tries to make good of the situation, he soon discovers of a secret plan brewing within the Corgin Church halls.

Gameplay Goal:
FE Steel Will is split between 3 parts, with each part havin’ its own lord and campaign. Design is intended to replicate FE11/12 to a certain extent, replacing heavy reinforcements with more enemies to begin with each chapter.
Skills are somewhat restricted, and player units are designed with glaring strengths and weaknessess, and low growth rates.

people in my discord play my stuff and the self randomized hacks in #playthrough-blog, among other things. I was trying to encourage some of them who were playing the self randomized hacks to give feedback / share their playthrough experiences with the actual creators of said hacks, but I have no idea if they have. I don’t mind people trying to get others interested in their hacks in my discord

anyway, even if my discord isn’t your speed, posting screenshots of you playing your hack in various places is a good way to get people interested in it. For example, #hack-chat in feu, #romhacks-and-fangames in reddit/fe, and #rutgers-university in importedcheese are places I’ve shared things outside my own discord, which has gotten my stuff noticed by more people.

I’d like play testers for my Tactile Project, Sonic FE (title pending)
