My name is Ryan, I’m an indie game developer. I’ve been in love with Fire Emblem ever since I was a kid, and I’m super excited to be here. I’m really looking forward to getting to know this community, because I think I’m going to find a lot of people here who are like me: who love strategy games, and are passionate and determined enough to take their own ideas and make them real.
If you have any suggestions for where to dip ones toes in in terms of getting started on playing some of the games made here on PC, I’d love some tried-and-true recommendations!
For remakes Ember, Sacred Echoes and Sacred Trilogy are no brainers. For original games, Souls of the Forest, Shackled Power and especially Code of the Black Knights. Now this last one has more than it’s fair share of bugs and janky design but its arguably one that really tried to push the ROM to it’s limits and it does things not alot of other hacks have done.
They are still romhacks yes, and are usually in the fe8 engine. Generally they are reimaginings of the game that add QoL, balance the game and add other features.
I see, so remakes are when someone takes an existing FE game, and makes the same game again with some tweaks and balance changes? And original games are when someone uses the FE engine to make something with original characters and maps?
Hey there! I think you and I are already familiar with each other lol, but it’s nice to see you here.
If you’re interested in games to try, I will always recommend this google doc by KrashBoomBang as a pretty good collection of them.
The starting point most people would recommend are at the top of that doc, and they’re sort of the unofficial “big three” of FE hacks, which are The Last Promise, Vision Quest, and The Four Kings. My two personal favorite hacks atm are Blessed Heart and Dark Stone, they both play pretty similar to Sacred Stones (and the latter is in the same setting too).
You probably have a better idea of what you’d like than we do, so look around and feel free to ask questions if you have any!
