Question about creating/editing/porting sprites/animations in GBA FE games

,

Hello FEU community, I have three question today, just out of curiosity:

  1. Is it possible to modify/create new big bosses like Fomortiis, Idunn or Fire Dragon? Of all the romhacks I’ve played and seen gameplays of, I’ve never seen anyone even change the color of those bosses mentioned, so I think it must be a huge challenge to edit them or create a new one, what can you tell me about that?

  2. Is there any problem in porting the Athos sprite to romhacks in general? I’ve never seen any author use the Athos sprite in the romhacks I’ve played. But I’ve sawn Eliwood, Hector and Lyn in FE8 base romhacks.

  3. Is it possible to port unique spell animations to the FE8 base? I’ve also never seen an author use spells like Aureola, Forblaze, etc in any romhack.

Obs.: I must have played at most 10 different romhacks, but these doubts always came up when I play, so I’m asking to satisfy my curiosity, and, even if anyone knows of a romhack with these ports and modifications, please let me know.

All of these are have already been done in some fashion.

  1. You are correct that recoloring or editing these is more difficult than with standard animations. However, it has been done, this hack has a recolored Fire Dragon, and I myself have a recolored Demon King in my hack. Sacred Echoes has a completely custom Duma sprite using the system that FE8 uses for Fomortiis.
  2. This has also been done and there are several FE8 hacks that use this animation, such as An Unexpected Caller and Cerulean Crescent.
  3. Although direct source ports have not generally been done (with the exception of again Sacred Echoes, which ported Forblaze, among other things), these spells have been replicated in the commonly used custom spell engine, and so are available.
