Hello introducing myself! A FE fan looking to transition from ROM hacking to Indie game development

Hi everyone,

I’m a huge fan of the Fire Emblem series. I’ve recently been playing through various ROM hacks from this community, and I’m honestly blown away by the level of quality and creativity here.

While I love the charm of ROM hacking, I’ve also noticed some of its technical limitations and the challenges in reaching a broader audience. Because of this, I’m planning to develop a standalone SRPG using Unreal Engine, with the goal of eventually releasing it on Steam. To be clear, this will be an original title with its own unique setting.

I have a question regarding the community resources: Would it be permissible to use assets from the FEUniverse Graphics Repository (such as portraits, battle animations, etc.) in a standalone indie project?

I have the utmost respect for the work of this community’s artists. If use is allowed, I will ensure that every creator is properly credited and acknowledged within the game.

I’m very excited to join this community and look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Alot of the assets on the repo are splices or otherwise use materials from FE games, so I imagine you’d run into copyright issues from nintendo if your selling your game on steam with those assets. But to answer your question, yes its fine also long as each invidual artist and asset is credited and you don’t edit materials without explicit permission.
