Fire Emblem: Three Legacies (WIP, 21 chapters plus some gaidens complete so far)

(Willow only ORKOs at base in her join chapter against the one Steel Axe Brigand and the one Swordreaver Brigand, as she’s one point short of doubling them if she’s not weighed down. Now, if she gets a level, she’s fairly likely to gain speed and ORKO them from there, but that takes a few kills to happen so it’s not until midway through the map. Then enemies past that chapter have a bit more HP and Res, so even if she starts doubling right away she often won’t quite kill unless she also hits Magic levels early.)

I’ve started plotting out some stat adjustments. Obviously something something numbers in a vacuum something something just test the damn game, but like, just at a glance, would these adjustments sound reasonable?

Possible changes, not finalized

Elys: +1 HP +1 Def, -5% HP growth -5% Def growth

Alexander: +3 HP +3 Str +1 Skl, -10% HP growth -10% Str growth -5% Skl growth, +2 base level, -1 HP promo gain. (I’m tempted to hit his Def growth again but I’m always tempted to hit his Def growth again, on paper his Def’s not impressive but I swear he’s always Def-blessed (or just snowballing raw level count). The base level increase is sort of a universal growth nerf, in a way, so that should cover it…)

Ashley: +1 base level, some slight growth nerfs

Felakhos: +1 mov (it probably won’t break anything…)

Caitlyn: +2 Mag, -10% Mag growth

Sophia: Seek is now a prf, and is now brave but can’t naturally double. Spd+2 has been reverted to it just being 4 weight to Light’s 6, since there’s no longer the option to give it to another unit for that to matter. (this is an indirect nerf to Caitlyn, as she liked the option to get +2 speed from it given how borderline her speed stat often is, but I believe the change to her magic stat is an overall buff)

Jasper: -15% HP growth (he’s meant to be on the fragile side of the army overall, his high base HP was a buff a while back to let him safely fight Kostas at base but I never really corrected for it in his growth)

A few other characters I lost track of: like -5%ish HP growth because I realized a few characters’ HP growths were just a little high for my liking.

Vulns heal 15 (up from 10), Concoctions heal 25 (up from 20)

Also, with regard to the places to visit:

Duscur is the big one that came to mind for me as well. I’m thinking I might relocate chapters 4 and 5 to a random fortress there instead of Conand Tower, and work in appropriate details about how the people of Duscur react to that.

Sreng is already visited in chapter 9, and stuff related to it begins happening in chapter 7.

Almyra is visited in chapter 21x, but I do admit I’ve kind of ended up pulling the same “Almyra is theoretically important but mostly off-screen” thing as the base game for most of the main story… not sure where I could naturally fit something else in there.

With regard to a few other places outside Fodlan’s borders, as you mentioned having heard about earlier, the story does tie in some other FE settings, as some of the unexplored outside-Fodlan places. Specifically, Dagda is future Fates-land, and Morfis is future (well, post-Marth pre-Awakening) Khadein/Thabes in Archanea. Would it have been “better” writing to just develop them as their own things independently? Perhaps, but I had ideas and enjoy playing “find the pieces to make stuff fit together”. Dagda/Fates-world becomes the central focus for a while post-timeskip when it goes to war with Fodlan, and then Morfis will be in focus in lategame.

(Oh, also, glad you found the 6x boss to be interesting, he will return in lategame and is in fact planned to be recruitable, which is perhaps hinted at by his tome being labeled as a prf.)

I probably did gain a Spd level fairly quickly or something, I know Willow was def Mag-blessed by where I left off and there were definitely instances before that where her damage was pretty borderline with just Flux. Those gameplay changes look pretty solid at a glance to me, and Seek being brave prob gives Sophia that extra oomph she needs in a couple combat interactions to get kills slightly easier.

Places

Yeah, I think a Duscur inclusion makes sense with where the cast is at in the earlygame. Unfortunate about Almyra, but hey, IS had two games to show it off and didn’t, so it’s still more than you get there lol. The 6x boss def gave recruitable vibes, so I’m not too surprised to see that, but cool to see it confirmed. Overall, looks like a good list to me.

Yeah, early-Magic-blessed Willow is a whole different unit lol, she can be a pretty luck-dependent unit in more ways than just her capped Luck base. I’ll probably go ahead and upload those pure gameplay changes now (those unit tweaks, plus that one prologue Halberd guy having a Hammer instead), and then work on the writing updates (rewriting ch6 intro to better spotlight Alexander, moving ch4-5 to Duscur) over the next day or so

May I ask which modular Minimug Box is it?
Plus time to finally give it a try!

The MMB is a custom layout I designed

Also, BUGFIX: I accidentally set the wrong prf locks on Seek last night, fixed

As mentioned in the comment I left above yours, that’s a bug that just got fixed, I’d set the wrong prf locks. Redownload the patch and it should work properly.

Sorry literally as I hit send I realized i missed that comment haha. Great hack so far!

Hello, everyone! Been a little while, but I’ve got some exciting new changes to announce!

  • As previously mentioned, I have slightly modified the story of chapters 4 and 5 to now take place in Duscur instead of Conand Tower, and adjusted the opening scene of chapter 6 to not have Kalin stealing Alexander’s spotlight. Some other small writing tweaks have been made as well, namely adjusting some of the dialogue surrounding Rosie’s recruitment to focus less on Ashley’s appearance and more on her manipulating Rosie into joining.

  • Alexander’s prf has been changed! Having three lords with rapier-like prfs was getting boring, and for Alexander in particular it was also a significant contributor to (though certainly not the only factor in) his midgame dominance, and I’d also received feedback that he just felt kind of basic. His new prf, Centurion, is a bit stronger in the earlygame, not quite as overpowering in the midgame (though still strong when used right), but most importantly, way more fun. What does it do? It’s got low base might and weighs him down by a bit, but that might is only low at base because it gives +2 damage for every space moved! Oh, and I’ve removed the low crit rates from it and Elys’s Twilight because the only thing they ever really did was occasionally mess with setting up kills for other units. (Ashley’s Failnaught keeps its crit because it’s actually relevant for her.)

  • Some slight adjustments have been made to the prologue map to properly account for Felakhos now having 7 mov and Caitlyn now having only 6 speed, and to basically “force” the “correct” turn 1 move without meaningfully impacting anything else because not going up on turn 1 and not having Felakhos kill things on turn 1 makes the map way harder.

  • Chapter 6 is back on an upwards trend in difficulty as I try to address the “playable Yuri makes the map too easy” issue. More changes may yet be to come.

But that’s mostly small stuff. The biggest thing I have to announce today is the introduction of another new unit! Meet Alvi, a Spear Fighter now recruitable in chapter 9. Their base stats may look rather poor at a glance, but they have the ability to switch between three different “stances” at will, granting large bonuses to attack, def/res, or speed depending on the stance chosen! The spear in their portrait glows a different color depending on which stance they’re in:
alvi alvi attack alvi defense alvi speed
As a Spear Fighter, they can promote into either Basara or Paladin by using either a Knight Crest or a Master Seal. Will you choose Basara to fully unlock the power of their magic stat through light magic, or will you go Paladin for its increased mov while making use of that magic through Shocksticks and magic swords?

As a side effect of Alvi’s introduction, Morgo’s stealable item in chapter 9 has been changed from a Dracoshield to a Master Seal to offer more availability and flexibility in promotion items. Probably a good thing to cut off Alexander or Jahid from a Def statbooster anyway lol.

Whoops, forgot Alvi’s death quotes, which also meant their items wouldn’t be sent to convoy on death. Fixed!

Enjoying this hack so far, currently on chapter 4. I wanted to ask if the music is supposed to sound as chaotic as it does in chapter 3-4? In parts of the song it sounds like two separate songs are playing at once, kinda gave me a headache. Dunno if its a bug or it’s just how the song is.

Just how that port of the song is. I’m aware it’s not the best of ports, but it’s the only one I found and my own music-making and music-editing ability is nonexistent in terms of trying to clean it up, and I still like it well enough to keep it

Makes sense. I think the rest of the music is great at least, so I suppose it evens out.

This project is the first thing I saw after setting up a FeU account. Glad this was so, because I must say I really loved Fe3H and glad to see other people who are passionate about the game enough to build their own projects.

(I have only recently got my feet wet with Rom hacking, enough to understand the basics)

Looking forward to trying this out, though as an aside… as much as the Agarthans were antagonistic I honestly found them rather sympathetic and wished there was a dark magic route where you could side with them and fight alongside nemesis + the revived heroes who followed him. Though that just my interpretation after reading the Romance of the World’s Perdition.

If you google (The point of view of “Those who Slither in the Dark”) You’ll more or less see a post on how I came to this conclusion, and (Those who Slither in the Dark, would a Route be possible for FE3H?). Though the 2nd more about how there could have been a 4th route in the Fe3H game.

Is she supposed to have maxed luck as an enemy during a second map?

I think it’s intentional. She’s seer so she can see the future and use it to dodge. Her luck must be high enough to do that.

Yes, and she also has it as a playable when you get her the map after.

At risk of sounding like an idiot, is there a condition or something for the artillerist summon ballista? Just promoted Tinker between chapters, and using the summon command does the summon animation and nothing happens afterwards

…Huh? That’s a bug, let me take a look

Ok, found the issue, no idea how that went unnoticed for so long. Fix is uploaded, redownload the patch and let me know if there are any issues!

Yeah that fixed it. I have a tendency to find bugs no normal human would ever encounter, I’ll let you know if I see anything else.
