Ver 1.3 Patch Notes

  • Orion’s Bolt Promotion Item now works as intended. Thank you to Shuusuke for resolving this bug. As a result, all instances where a Master Seal was placed will be reverted back to the Orion’s Bolt.
  • Fixed Casual Mode issue where a unit would not exist on the map despite the Unit Menu telling you they are deployed. A minor visual bug will occur before the start of turn 1 when playing on Casual Mode if a unit is not recruited from Chapters 2 - 5, though it will not affect any gameplay elements.
  • Fixed Swordmaster and Berserker class not receiving +30 Crit upon promotion.
  • Fixed missing Paladin Axe animations.
  • Fixed Rutger and Cath maxed out Mag stat.

Ver 1.2 Patch Notes

  • For some unknown reason, the Orion’s Bolt Promotion Item does not work as intended. As a temporary hotfix, all instances where you can receive an Orion’s Bolt is replaced with a Master Seal. Master Seal can be used on any class. However, it should really be used only for archers / nomads as it is currently their only form of being able to promote.
  • Changed Title Screen
  • Fixed Brunnya’s Str Stat visual bug if played on Hard Mode.

Ver 1.1 Patch Notes

  • Fixed Chapter 12 Infinite Preperations Loop.
  • Adjusted Roy’s World Map Movement on the overworld for Chapter 12 if taken the B Route in the Western Isles Arc.

This ROM hack was made with the intention of saving ROM space by utilizing vanilla FE8 resources like animations and music when possible. Also, this 1:1 will allow anyone to build off the base of this engine to make their own FE6 reskins and edits with FEBuilder, but using modern FE8 hacks and other updates. Of course, this can be played just like any other Vanilla FE6 playthrough.

When I mean “FE6 1:1 Port to FE8”, I mean it in the most literal way possible, minus a few exceptions. Those inlcuding, but not limited to, FE6 portraits, Class Sprites, Map Tilesets, Item Icons, Battle Animations, Light Brand not having a flat 10 damage at range, Rapiers dealing effective damage against Nomads and Troubadours, Str / Mag split, and an optional Prologue that aims to replicate the Tutorial map from FE6. In visual cases, I tried to update it so it looks more pleasing compared to the vanilla counterpart, like the addition of Blinking Portraits and Nicer Looking Map Palettes.

When it comes to the actual code of FE6, I did my absolute best staring at FE6’s Event Editor, translating it into FE8’s Event Editor, and playtesting every single chapter side by side to make sure they’re identical. The same goes for Stats / Enemy Placements / Units / Scripts / World Map Events / and more…

Highlights and Features
  • Optional Prologue that showcases what occured before the events of FE6.

  • Ilia / Sacae Route Split can now be chosen from a menu after Chapter 16 / 16x instead of which of the two (Shanna / Thea) or (Sue / Sin) have the most EXP.

This ROM uses the latest Fan Translation for FE6 and includes various translation fixes due to official localizations. Examples include:

  • Jutes → Juteaux
  • The Blizzard Spear → The Freezing Lance
  • The Tempest Bow → The Bow of Swift Wind
  • Aquleia → Aquileia
  • Dragon Sanctuary → Dragon Temple
  • The Neverending Dream → The Unattained Dream
  • I Campaign → Act I: Advance
  • II Recapturing the Royal Capital → Act II: Reclaim the Capital
  • Captivating Dance → Enticing Dance
  • Distant Utopia → Far from Arcadia
Cuts / Limitations
  • There are no World Map Nodes for any of the gaiden chapters or Chapters 23, 24, and 25.
  • There is no Tower of Valni or Lagdou Ruins.
  • There are no World Map Skirmishes
  • Due to the nature of the Str / Mag split, for units that utilize the MAG stat, the Spirit Dust has been included as an item. The only way to obtain Spirit Dusts are through the Secret Shop.
  • Some of the traps in the gaiden chapters like 16x will always be the same.
  • Weapon animations like Aureola and Apocalypse all use Vanilla FE8 animations like Ivaldi, and Naglfar respectively. Themes like the Unit Death theme, Arena theme, Promotion theme, and Main Menu theme remain unchanged from FE8. This is all to save as much ROM space as possible. Speaking of…
  • After all the edits made, the ROM’s size is 20.6 MB, which means users have approx. 10 MB of free space to work with.

Disclaimer
Because this was made for other ROM hackers to use, when it came to the custom build, I had to think about the general consensus and what people would “most likely” use since once a build is made, it unfortunately cannot be changed. The only thing to do would be to start from scratch. That being said, things like the Str / Mag split are in this ROM due to the nature of how other ROM hacks are developed.

This is absolutely amazing!

I’ve always was interested in seeing a pure, 1:1 port of FE6 to FE8, that players with more of a preference to be as much vanilla as possible could enjoy, while still being able to make more edits on top by taking advantage of the FE8 engine if one wishes. And that you also made it as a base that can be used for hacks, like damn, thank you so much for your hard work ZeN. :sparkling_heart:

Just one question: I’ve noticed that, since you can play the Tutorial map from FE6 as a sort of prologue before jumping into the main story proper now, you can have Roy gain at least 2 levels from it. But since the option to enable fixed growths mode is still AFTER the prologue chapter, will it have some problems with leveling down the line, or will it still work no problem?

Chapters don’t load on VBAm. I get stuck in a black screen after the World Map event

On Chapter 12, at the intro event before the map starts, as soon as the camera moves in to Roy to have the final conversation before starting the map, it suddenly jumps back to the Preparations screen. It goes in a loop of infinitely going back to preps without actually starting the map.
(I went on the B, Elffin/Bartre route)

I checked on FEBuilder, and when I deleted this Global flag, the event finally played as normal as well as the chapter, but I’m not sure how important that flag is.

On another note, I also use VBAm, but the bug that @Alice mentions of having a black screen at the world map does not happen on my end. I use version v2.1.9 of VBAm, if that helps.

Ah, I see what the issue was. Near the end of development, I was seeing how Raigh’s Hard Mode Bonuses should be removed since he doesn’t get any in vanilla, and it seems I used the same conditional label as the one below it. Oops. I just fixed it!

@ZeN2002 Just finished my quick test run, and the bug on Chapter 12 seems to have been the only ‘softlock’ that is now fixed, was able to complete the run with the true ending np. :star:

There is only three more things to report on my end:

  1. For some bizarre reason, the Orion’s Bolt is not working to promote either of the Archers (Wolt & Dorothy), as well as the Nomads (Sue & Sin). Barely the first release, and it seems even this port of FE6 already hates bow users lmao.

  2. This one visual bug with Brunnya’s Strength on Chapter 23;

  3. Finally, the music that plays during the playable characters’ endings, ‘Eternal Wind’, does not loop. I actually found out that in the og FE6, ‘Eternal Wind’ actually naturally does not loop too; it plays other music tracks right after (‘Epilogue’ and ‘After the War’).
    I don’t know if it’s possible to have it work the same way as it does in og FE6, or if you could instead implement a version of ‘Eternal Wind’ that loops, just so that the characters’ endings doesn’t suddenly go silent.

That’s all that I found out. Everything else all good.

Same thing I said back in the other thread, but now that you went and did a 1:1 port it’s even more convenient for other romhackers. Nice work.

About the issue with the traps, there are patches that let you add traps in events. In the start event of those chapters, you could roll an RN to have multiple possible configurations of traps.

Are there split promotions still?

I guess it could be possible to find something to make it work like in the og FE6. Well, I don’t actually really know, but I think something can be done, mainly since Gamma’s Sacred Echoes romhack actually made it so that in the character endings section it would play “The Voice that Calls You” after “Heritors of Arcadia” ended, and the former track would loop instead of ending.

Now THIS is the game that the FE8 Remake should have been. Nonetheless I still having fun with the romhack. Only a few things that bothers me; is Roy still going to promote at the end of chapter 16 instead of chapter 21? And it looks like you forgot to change the title screen from sacred stones to binding blade which is the other issue so hopefully it gets fixed to avoid confusion to the other fans. Still again I’m enjoying the romhack, gonna convert this into cia format for my 3ds soon.

I changed to the Title Screen so it now looks like this. Turns out it, it only takes up about 12 KB of space, so it’s not the end of the world.

Also, since this is a 1:1, Roy promotes at the end of Chapter 21 / 21x when he receives the Binding Blade instead of at the end of Chapter 16 / 16x like in my previous project.

Is that so? Looks like Roy has been nerfed just like his vanilla counterpart and the worst part is that even with the world map, there are no monsters or baddies where you can train your units and Roy. Looks like this is going to be a huge challenge for Roy but on the bright side at least he gets to train a bit earlier in the prologue. Hopefully he gets his early promotion and a nice buff one day in the next update. Still nonetheless thanks for listening to my selfish feedback. Now if we can now change that title theme to FE6 heh heh.

So I’m doing a playthrough, and in chapter 6 reinforcements will spawn from the bottom of the map even if you have a unit at the bottom of the map. Since in FE6 they only spawn if ALL of your units are in the top half of the map I’m guessing this is a small mistake.

I’m really enjoying my time with the port, I’m glad we finally have a more stable version of FE6 to work with.
