Huh… Yeah, it’s happening on my end as well. Strange… The bug’s pretty out of the way and not too harmful, fortunately, but still, I’ll see if I can’t figure out what’s happening there. Thanks for the heads-up! Don’t hesitate to let me know if you find any other issues or if you’ve any criticisms.

Right, no worries, ran into it accidentally but it’s a pretty unlikely thing to do. From my limited romhacking experience my guess would be that there’s something wrong with the text that it’s trying to display, be that it’s null or has some invalid characters, or it’s reading from a bad memory address.

On another note, I did find another little oddity:

It would seem that Galle is affected by (maybe only some) terrain movement penalties. Probably a flag that needs to be set for his Axe Wyvern class. Pictured above is my canto options after having moved 4 tiles. It seems that the pillar costs him 2 movement. Actually, I just went back and tried with Sigune and the same happens for her, so maybe it’s not a class thing? Unless both fliers are missing a flag. This is in chapter 8.

I did find the tooltip’s text. I also thought I must’ve accidentally replaced it or something. But no, the text is normal. Weird.

The Axe Wyvern is just the female wyvern class, which Milady uses in vanilla. And I didn’t change any movement parameters for either that class or pegasus knights, so… I can only conclude this has to be a vanilla issue lol

Huh, I just checked and it is indeed a vanilla issue. Weird lmao. I guess my knowledge of obscure FE6 mechanics just isn’t up to snuff: Terrain Guide - Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade (FE6) | Triangle Attack
Apparently pillars, ballistae, and forts cost 2 movement for fliers.

I took a break for a couple days but now I’m back to playing the hack, I’m on chapter 12x and I just got a support between Sigune and Mieu. To my surprise however, it seems to be a one-way support. The support shows up in Sigune’s support list, but not in Mieu’s. Also, the same is shown in the guide spreadsheet, so maybe it’s supposed to be that way? (Reminds me of the one-way supports in Thracia)

Really having fun with the growths on Mieu, before long she’s become one of my fastest units, and I’m glad to have some speed on my team because it’s getting to the point that most of the units I’d initially invested in are getting doubled.

I just finished this hack. It’s definitely one of my favorites!

The writing was absolutely the best part. There were a lot of really well written convos between characters for each chapter. Even though it was a little cumbersome making sure I had the right characters for each level, I made sure to read as much as I could. Henning was one of my favorites, as were Debias and his brother! You had a good handle on giving characters a platform of backgrounds and personalities, and letting these play and interact with other characters’ backgrounds. It made the conversations feel more grounded compared to other fan hacks, where the writing sometimes feels like it’s filler. I never felt like these side conversations were filler  I especially liked discovering secret boss convos with units, especially Bors and Jahn

I think the hardest character to write for was Zephiel. While there were incredible moments like the end of Ostia, there were multiple times I felt like every chapter ended or started with him announcing how the army had to move immediately, or kill everyone, and this got a little stale and made him feel less developed. I felt a lot of dissonance when it came to gathering the legendary weapons, too, where he seemed to slingshot in his interest and motivation. By the end game, I felt his conviction fell a little flat.

Jahn also seemed a little flat early on, and then does a fairly sudden reverse. It’d be nice to see earlier elements that Jahn could react to, giving him a wider character arc to work with.

I also felt like a lot of bosses ended up just being copy-paste moments where we’re told Roy needs to survive no matter the cost. I can respect this as developing Roy’s behaviour later in the game, but it also felt like I was cutting through cardboard bosses that didn’t have much impact in the game. There was quite a contrast between moments like these, and the character development we got in the playable characters’ conversations.

I enjoyed the overall balance of the hack as well. The game felt like a fun ragtag band of misfits growing into an ever larger threat to Elibe. It is hard to get around some of the repetitive classes, and I like the extra promotion branches available, but I did feel like some characters were too similar in stats and classes to stand out from characters I already had. I’m looking forward to replaying again with new choices though!

I was super surprised when Jahn and Mieu’s conversation late in the game gave a new unique bow to the player. I’m not sure how feasible these moments are, but it’d be great to see more content like this with other characters. Maggie and Rose are a great example, where late in the game one might exchange a gift with the other, maybe a stat-boosting item? I’m not sure if increasing stats after a conversation is possible, but I think another hack gave some experience after two units finished talking. These may not be as easy to implement in FE6, but I think they’d be good ways to make characters more unique in the long-run too.

I came across a few small typos in my playthrough,

And a small weird behaviour in some late game text, too:

There was was conversation that only started one-way for me:

If the other character tried to initiate the convo, no option would appear.

When Yahn gives Mieu the bow, depending on who initiates the convo, Yahn could actually be given the bow instead:

I was surprised that Zephiel isn’t considered an armored unit:

Overall though, I’m very impressed by this hack. I’m excited for future updates, but also for anything you might work on in the future  Thank you for sharing this!

Whoops, nope that’s not intended. Changes to supports in one character’s list aren’t automatically added to the other, so I have to remember to change it in both. Sometimes stuff like this slips through the cracks. Thanks for reporting it, I’ll fix it.

Glad you enjoyed the hack, and thank you for thoughts! The praise and the feedback both are appreciated and noted.

You were right about Zephiel, there were a few chapters where I was just sort of trying to get to the next major point in the story and didn’t really know what to do with the filler chapters in between.
As for Jahn, I’ve talked before in the thread about how I initially had no idea what to do with him. His arc was entirely improvised, and while I’m happy with how it turned out and the reception it got, you can definitely tell this lack of direction in the earlier stages of the game. Oh well.

Jahn getting the recurve bow is an unavoidable issue with talk convos giving items. I had to use a command where the talk initiator gets the item - if I used the command to give the bow to Mieu specifically, whoever initiates the talk eats the other unit and they disappear from the map. I have no idea why this happens.

On that topic, I didn’t want to do the “optional convo gets item” thing too often because I don’t want people to feel forced to do these. Notice even this convo’s reward isn’t good for much if you’re not using Mieu. My idea was for people to see the convos for characters they were invested in, or deploy benched characters to see the convo and then reset. That being said, I do really dig the idea of Maggie and Rose’s second convo giving something… We’ll see.

As for Zephiel being armored… Honestly, the thought never crossed my mind, but yeah, you’re right, he totally should be classified as an armored unit lol

Thank you once again for sharing your impressions. If it’s not too much trouble, might I ask that you share your endgame team? I’m always curious to see people’s unit choices.

Sure thing! I ended up editing all caps to 30 for a change of pace. It made for some interesting late-game enemies with growths that pushed some stats pretty high!

I usually stick with a very tight team that only meets the units I can put out a chapter. Near the end game, I end up bringing in filler units as the unit limit tends to get larger then.

Endgame Team

I really liked using Zephiel early on, but he ended up capping at level 20 pretty early and I ignored him after this. I could see him getting a promotion a few chapters earlier, possibly even when the first Etruria chapter begins (after the isles).

Martel became a nice tanky unit to shove around and take hits.

I ended up using Mieu since Thoril was just too weak to make a difference at the same time she came on.

Sommie came on my team very late in the game at around the Shrine of Seals as a filler unit. I forgot about the secret shop here, or else this guy would’ve gotten at least an extra pair of boots!

Rest of Team

I almost wanted to use him and his brother, but Thoril ended up being better early one while both were disappointing. I really enjoyed having a mounted thief however!

At first I looked over Ticks, but later started to appreciate his accuracy and speed. Most of my early units were tanky but inaccurate and slow, and he helped shake things up a bit. A bit weak in the end-game though!

I started with Rose at first, but as more slots opened later, I took Maggie back on and watched the latter flourish. Both were really great in the later mountainous chapters though. I ended up warping them into dense enemy clusters and let them destroy everything side-by-side. I should’ve used this tactic earlier on!

Zephiel not counting as an armor is accurate to FE6 itself actually. But nomads and troubs don’t count as horse for horseslaying either so take that what you will.

v1.19 released!

  • Maggie and Rose’s second talk in chapter 20x now gives them something.
  • Fixed an incorrect support between Mieu and Sigune. Sigune now supports Guerrero instead. Also, Zephiel now supports Scott.
  • Zephiel now takes effective damage from armorslaying weaponry.
  • Fixed a small issue with an optional convo in chapter 19A.
  • Fixed some typos.

Interesting little change. I like seeing the bandit boys get used - I find that most people seem to have just lost them because for ages their recruitment was incredibly difficult. Thanks a lot, chapter 7. I should’ve changed that earlier…

It also makes sense in the context of Zephiel being a final boss. You don’t want him to just get armorslayed. In this hack though, probably worth changing.

Guys I’m so nervous right now. I made a shitpost related to this hack. But it also connects to a certain other media similar to Eckesachs. I’m afraid that if i post it here then this will start a heated discussion i might get harassed for making this or even worse i could get permanent ban off of feuniverse entirely.

Best not to post it here then, whatever it may be.

where is supposed green armor in chapter 16 (Sacae), I don’t find him
ah my bad, it was chapter 17

So hey, quick question, i was replaying the game to see some stuff i missed, i reached chapter 22 and…

Well

Why the fuck did kaga appear? What did i do???
I know there was a secret character but i never got to see what was the condition to unlock him, and then suddenly the text hitted me, he appeared out of thin air and i was like “huh???

Edit:

Da edit

Shortly afterwards i found the secret code and read the riddle, i can not believe my ass was able to stumble upon that secret by accident LMFAO

Summary

It is is with Kaga’s will and guidance that we move forwards!

Genuinely had never expected anyone would get the secret character by accident. Wow. Kudos to you lol

Out of curiosity, just to make sure it's not broken...

You spoke to the random unarmed druid in chapter 17 with Roberts? Because that’s the requirement that I thought would filter people out. If you didn’t then it’s broken and I should probably fix it lol

Actually

No i did not, i killed lance and saved the far up village on the same turn, i skipped a couple of turns cuz i was building up supports, but i still got kaga anyways, i’m playing in v1.17 for that matter

Weird. I’ve looked for other places where the flag could be activated by mistake and I can’t find any. Might be something leftover from another version, perhaps. Oh, well. Enjoy the secret unit for what they’re worth.
