Hello, FEU! Welcome to the 15th!!! annual FEE3 event, hosted this year by both myself and @Gultykappa!
What is FEE3?
Every year, we at FEU team up to put together a showcase of all the work our community has been up to! Be it hacks, fan games, animations, or new technology, you can submit a demonstration of your work to the event, and at the end of the year, they’ll all be uploaded to the FEU youtube channel.
FEE3 is, first and foremost, a celebration of our community; a chance for us to come together, both to share our work and to share in the work of others. Our goal is to foster both awareness and discussion of projects within the FE hacking space, bringing the community closer together and giving a platform for any community member, regardless of their connections, to spotlight their work!
Last year’s FEE3 can be found HERE, if you’d like to get an idea for how the event goes.
How do I participate in FEE3?
If you want your project to be showcased at this event, you can fill in the submission form below:
Please read the rules below before submitting.
The deadline for submission is August 25th.
This year, we’ll also be offering the opportunity for participants to submit without a showcase video already prepared IF they would like the FEE3 team to conduct an interview with them. Participants choosing this option MUST have a working microphone and the ability to do a voice call via Discord. If your microphone or connection does not allow for a proper interview, you will be asked to resubmit with your own showcase.
The deadline for interview requests is June 25th.
Rules for Submission
- Project Type
Eligible products include any Fire Emblem fan work, asset/animation showcase, hack-related technical demo, and hacking tutorial. Rebalances, remakes, reskins, translations, PMEs, weapon reversal, reverse recruitment, or other “minor” edit hacks, of either mainline FEGBA games or existing romhacks, will not be allowed at this event, regardless of prior precedent. Furthermore, ports of a GBA Fire Emblem game into another GBA engine (including fanmade engines meant to replicate GBA FE, such as Lex Talionis and Tactile) are also prohibited.
A rebalance is defined as any project that changes the gameplay of an existing game by modifying exclusively numbers and skills. A remake is defined as any project that substantially modifies the story, the assets, or the gameplay, while still having the intent to be the game it’s based on. Projects that use vanilla assets or settings to create a custom game are not considered remakes.
Lastly, we believe that major remakes and ports for other, less explored hacking engines than FEGBA are interesting enough technical showcases that they will be exempt from this rule. However, rebalances in this vein that are not sufficiently transformative will be subject to rejection based on the planning committee’s discretion. If you are worried your project falls under this latter category, don’t hesitate to ask to be safe.
- Inappropriate Content
The FEE3 planning committee reserves the right to reject any project that has inappropriate content in violation with site Terms of Service. This includes, but is not limited to, extreme profanity, nudity, sexual themes, and gore. Additionally, content requirements for video showcases, including both showcased content and commentary, will be stricter than site rules; please keep in mind that younger audiences will be watching this event, and design your showcase accordingly. Projects with inappropriate content, regardless of whether this content appears in the video showcase, are subject to rejection based on the discretion of the organizer.
- Stolen Work
Any work with stolen assets will be removed and will not be allowed in the show until this is remedied. Both your project and your submission must adhere to the Project Credit Requirements and Guidelines. Failure to do so will result in your submission being rejected; if your project is found to have stolen assets in it after the date of your submission being accepted, the planning committee reserves the right to reject your submission after the fact, up to and including removing your showcase if it has already been uploaded.
- Generative AI Content
The use of generative AI content in your project or submission is strictly prohibited. This includes writing, artwork, and music. The planning committee will treat any usage of such content as though it is stolen content, and thus subject to the same rulings, including retroactively. The use of generative AI for concept art purposes and the like is NOT prohibited: only the use of generative AI content in the final product of either your showcase or your project is subject to these rulings.
- Quality Control
Video quality/frame rate and audio fidelity must reach a baseline level of quality in order for your submission to be accepted. These requirements are:
- Your video must be at least 720p.
- Gameplay footage must run at a minimum of 30 FPS.
- Any spoken voice over must be legible.
- Videos must not contain backgrounds/overlays with moving elements, and/or backgrounds/overlays that cover more than 40% of the screen.
- Videos must not have erroneous anomalies, such as being off-center.
- Videos must not be longer than 1 hour, or shorter than 1 minute. Shorter videos are highly encouraged; please aim for a shorter runtime for gameplay showcases as much as possible.
Otherwise, the planning committee may any further quality concerns we have to you directly. If you happen to fail these requirements due to a stylistic decision, you will have to speak to the organizers directly about your submission.
- Game Existence
If your project is a game showcase, there must be proof of its existence, whether this be gameplay footage in the video or a thread. If neither of these things exist and you are not otherwise able to produce proof of gameplay, your submission will be rejected.
- Good Standing in the Community
Any member participating in an entry to the event must have good standing in both the FEU forum and FEU discord. If this is not the case, the submission will be rejected. A ban from either the discord of the forum constitutes bad standing and will result in a project rejection. However, if a person is not actively involved with project development or the showcase, they do not need to be in good standing. If the person has contributed a F2U asset, for example, they are not a large or direct contributor to the project.
If you have some sort of uncertainty about this I would ask that you contact the mod team as they are in charge of determining any user’s standing.
- Music & Copyright
This is more of a guideline. We would ask you to try to tend towards copyright-friendly music such as video-game music, though this is not a hard rule as videos simply being claimed is not an issue, rather if you think something you put in the video will get the video stricken from the channel we would urge you to reconsider. If possible, a test upload on a personal youtube channel is recommended to be sure of these things.
Any videos that pass all these guidelines are still subject to moderator and admin approval and rejection. Furthermore, the planning committee reserves the right to reject submissions at their discretion.
If your video is rejected, you will have two weeks to resubmit from date of rejection. Please do not treat this as an excuse to be sloppy with your first submission, be sure to check it closely.
If you’re unclear about any details concerning your submission, you can DM me either here on the FEU site or on Discord (I go by Olivia / xilirite there as well as here). I’ll almost certainly be quicker to reply on Discord, so if you have that option, I would recommend it!
Good luck with your submissions, and let’s put on a big show for our 15th anniversary!!!
