I noticed on the first chapter on one the reinforcements. the ones before the door.
I had checked in febuilder after noticing it to see if i could fix it myself. unless u changed it recently of course. I had played the game a few days a go.
Yeah looks like I missed replacing that one, good catch
You’re welcome.
get real
(I’m in chapter 19 and just wanted to show them off, biggest zero to hero arc I’ve lived in the Iron Emblem series. They started getting speed in every level and once they capped SKL/SPD they started getting STR on most ones, I don’t know if due to the improbability of getting blank ones. Never would have thought the chapter 1 myrm would become the hero of the run
)
Probably a bug with the mage knight anim, will see about fixing it.
I have reached around three thirds or the game and have decided to drop it.
Like I have reached the point where all of my training projects paid out and I kinda lost interest in playing those last few chapters.
I did enjoy it, I guess I just lost motivation.
One flaw of GBA Fe is that it feels like training projects only really have one goal, like you level them to level 20 and then promote and then they are done. And then the game kinda gets boring as it loses the appeal of long term strategy as your long term strategy paid off.
I know the est social knight exists and I now get why they exist, but it feels artificial. Like I see the trope: Est, late game joiner, can become a promoted sword/lance user, has high growths. Maybe because there is no story that can distract me from the pure artificial level design.
Even in a game like this I didn’t feel ready to play an Ironman, I think it is because “good classes” are still treated like a rarity. Losing my thief means having no thief for a while, losing my cavalry means having no cavalry for a while.
I did enjoy the feeling that everyone used to be human but any trace of humanity was erased. I enjoyed having a 20 defense armor knight who just couldn’t take physical damage even if I tried.
This game feels more so like a fire emblem game whose story is stuck on Japanese with me having a guide guiding me through it.
I guess what I learned is that I think fire emblem games are better if instead of having a late game, they end before that, they end while you still have long term plans, long term plans that may have failed due to it being over already.
But uh, chapter 9 was peak. I also really enjoyed the dragon gaiden as a concept and execution, even tho the dragon map kinda turned out as a training map in my playthrough.
Also sometimes enemies using a hand axe crashed the game. Like using a hand axe at close range, but couldn’t remember exactly who.
But I still had my fun with it. I just kinda stopped caring. I guess I am reminded why I enjoyed fe11 warp so much, I could skip maps in the late game. I could literally ignore the late game.
I dunno, food for thought I guess, maybe I will try my hand at making a “Ironman friendly” game. Although that will be hard as shit lol, I did once just remove permadeath and I was very pleased with the results. But yeah, making an Ironman friendly game is almost impossible. You have to please both those whose units never die and those whose units always die.
I hope these thoughts are interesting or something. Maybe they can inspire someone or something.
Really fun hack. I completed it a bit back, but I never really posted any review for it. Other than the difficulty being a tad bit too easy in the midgame (which tbf, the midgame phase of when your units are starting to promote is 9/10 times always going to drop in difficulty), I really enjoyed this hack. There’s a real beauty in simplicity sometimes. Attached is a cool picture of Deserter 3 from my winning run (I headcanon his name to be Gawain). Picture isn’t really the best cause I played this on my 3ds, so apologies there
Finished it last night! Overall I think it was a really solid hack. As a hack that was inspired by another hack comparisons are often made, but overall I think this was a pretty unique experience. Compared to the original, it was definelty a lot easier. Managed to get through without losing the commander and didn’t have to reset the run at all. Funnily enough, if you manage to keep your starting guys alive, they become monsters who can take down squads. The solider from chapter 1 gained so much defense for me he could take any squad of physical units, so that’s mainly where I think the lack of difficulty comes from. The maps were solid and fun to play. The early game starts off very easy, but spikes in the desert chapter, I got caught by the moving Fenrir druid and he started one shotting my units, that was a fun and nasty suprise didn’t expect him to move. The difficulty continues up till chapter 9 which I think is the hardest chapter in the game, lost a ton of guys there. That really felt like I was gonna lose and had a great time seeing my units falling left and right. After that though it calms down and doesn’t really pick up again after that. Really enjoyed the music. There were a ton of cool and fun tracks, final map track is great, and the themes before it really hits well as run from those exalted units.
Spoliers:
My only real gripe with the hack was the final chapter. The atmosphere was great with the music and the story, but I really didn’t like the gameplay. Personally, I really loathe defend untill you die chapters in fire emblem. I don’t find it very fun to fight infinite and identical sets of reinforcements untill my weapons break and I run out of healing, I prefer tightly designed chapters which the rest of the hack is. However, that is just a personal preference. What really irks me is the fact that the final chapter is way too easy. It didn’t really feel like a fight to the death when I bowled over all the non-random units without much thought. By that point I had a pretty strong squad, I think that the whole feel of the chapter needed stronger enemies to really feel like its hopeless. I reached the bottom right corner long before the exalted reinforcements spawned. That leads into the issue of just ganking reinforcements as they spawnas I had already dealt with every other enemy making it pretty boring. Even when the exalted units spawn, they aren’t too strong, the main issue being their defense requiring high quality weapons, which run out quickly. The original iron emblem has a tough as hell final defend chapter which I lost on my first attempt, and that is hard and climactic at the same time. Kind of wish this game had a bigger send off gameplay wise.
Overall though, great job! 7/10
I don’t have much to say but this may be my favorite hackrom in a long while, may as well be my favorite hackrom ever lol. I love the 20 stat caps, as it made the stat gaps be not so insurmountable. All the classes I tried were fun, all the QoLs like accelerating animation and such were very nice, the Overview option was a godsend, etc.
The final map was actually a tad boring to me since I don’t think the concept of an endless Last Stand with no objective works in a Fire Emblem game
but other than that this gaiden game was just gas gas gas and I’m glad I found it, I love it so much.
I only know of this game and the original Iron Emblem so far but I really love the concept of generic malleable units you can headcanon into anything, and the story of this hack itself was also very cool and endearing, I’m actually replaying it right now to understand it all better. I hope there are more Iron Emblem-like hackroms in the future, because this one was just really awesome. 11/10 ![]()
I just finished this game and I agree with the general perspective of “cool mechanics, last map kinda blows” I really enjoyed the varied objectives, although escape felt a little overused, chapter 9 was fantastic. But once you start having a fully promoted squad you sort of bowl over any competition until the exalted get introduced, and even then they can only manage anything if they have tempo/numbers on you. But I do wish there was some sort of goal/point to the final chapter, some sort of objective to strive for like SC2’s “In Utter Darkness” Where you have a point to defend to earn research even though it’s also a forced defeat map.
Glad you generally enjoyed the hack.
Last Chapter
For what it’s worth your actions in the last chapter do impact the ending, but I left it deliberately opaque- I wanted the player to choose to stick it out only if they wanted to, without any concrete reward.
For chapters after Ch. 13x, I changed the number of extra autolevels that promoted enemies get from 9 (10/X promotions, like what fe8 normal mode uses) to 19 (20/X promotions, like what fe8 hard mode uses), and that made the lategame maps feel a lot better.
I just finished it and I have to say it’s an amazing hack! I only have one real criticism, that being just how dominant armor units are right up till endgame. The chapter one armor and the magic bulwark carried a lot of the game, with most enemies barely scratching them. The varied objectives were great as well, though the boss being on your route for all escape maps struck me as odd.
The final chapter was fun,
Summary
though I wish there was a more definite end, like turn 30 spawning a dozen capped stat units with legendary weapons or something, because as is it can kind of stop being an epic last stand and turn into a mindless grind after you establish a solid position. Also, how many different endings are there? I got the “remember Carlsen” after surviving a long time and the one you get for losing instantly
One thing I forgot to mention: The Overview system is great! Unknowable reinforcements, Chests, etc are a real nuisance to me, because they just make the game worse to play. This solution works wonders to patch that up!
Just finished, actually a great hack, just have one complain,
Summary
This text will be hiddenthe ending and you know why, i mean i was in there until the last men because i had the hope that i could change something but… AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, it’s the third time that someone make this kind of chapter, not my taste but am a fan of 300 so i get the idea, thanks and if you would make another hack i would be here to play it, send you a hug.
Maybe you should spoiler tag this?
My bad, done.
If it’s any consolation…
After making it to turn 51 of the final map in my ironman (see description for details), I wrote an alternate ending for myself (and ending slides for every blue unit, although two aren’t visible in the final video due to deaths). If you’d like, you can pretend it was the fate of your army as well.
