[FE8] HoloEmblem: The Search for Seiso (42 Chapters) [v.1.8.2]

I think if Iofi joins as late as in 1.8.2 (deployable for 8 chapters) she should have tier 3 capped stats as the later chapters require characters to have capped stats to be good (being able to double and one round enemies without the speedwings or battle sage seal items). Alternatively maybe giving her a promotion to a new impostor class or something similar. This doesn’t mean that Iofi should join at a lower starting level or with better stats she is in a good spot currently, I just personally think that the flexibility to make your favourite characters good in the late game with enough stat boosters is a good thing. It would make them equal with all the other characters as they now have tier 3 class and caps, without heavy investments almost no characters get to capped stats anyway.

Hello, Long time lurker on this project. Just want to say fantastic work! My question is, Should i start a fresh game now or should i wait for the rework?

Honestly its up to you. I do want to release some kind of demo soon so I can GAUGE how people feel about it. Though, I am hesitant on giving any solid date.

It will play very differently from the version out now. So I would leave that under your discretion! Just be aware of some of the problems the current build currently has

saw a character rankings post and thought i may as well also post my own (probably terrible) tierlist and opinions based on the way too many hours i’ve spent on this game between playing normally > 0% growths > ironman runs (also because my old list was terrible now that i’ve spent more hours on this game LOL)

characters are not ordered in tiers btw and there’ll be some that are probably borderline but i try my best to be as objective as possible. rankings are based on yabai mode.
i did not factor in the blossom scroll when tiering since just about everyone becomes pretty broken with it + investment, but i’ll mention firstly that blossom laplus basically scales super out of control within a few levels if you’re going that route.

SS Rank

Watame - easy no brainer choice as the main refresher of the game. recommended to teach her Miracle at some point so she can avoid getting potentially OHKO’d by siege lategame

Choco - the best general-use unit for like 90% of the game. comes with bases that basically rival RD Haar in chapter 5 + flight and has innate access to slayer which is one of the best skills to have in monster arc (spanning from chapter 15 all the way to almost the end of the game) and lets her nuke pretty much every mid-lategame enemy with minimal to no investment required. only downside is D lance base which can be fixed by giving her steel lances and letting her farm the pegasus knight reinforcements in chapter 8 (she also distracts the brigand from going to sora’s village this way and because the hit rates between the brigand and choco against each other are so low you can generate a lot of combat rounds for choco to farm lance wexp). her damage later on can be slightly lacking as she will miss some OHKOes if she’s not using strong weapons like silver or superior lance, but generally a very useful deploy

Sora, Lamy, Miko and Bae - all 4 are grouped together here collectively for their access to the Bishop class which gives slayer and giving them incredibly solid offense against midgame enemies. Bishop’s high staff rank base also means they have ample time to grind their way to A rank staves for entrap access (Miko and Lamy will promote to basically almost B staff base which means they get to spam physic very early). Beyond bishop and staves, each of these come with a specific benefit: Sora has 3 authority stars and is the 3rd highest source of them for the entire game, Lamy gets Powerstaff, Miko gets Devil’s Luck for counterplay against devil enemies + support square with 3 other gen 0 members, and Bae is an offensive powerhouse who gets to use anima magic in bishop (meaning she can bolting siege monsters out of existence) and also has like 1 billion crit.

Baelz has a side promo into dancer from A support with Suisei which also would make her automatically SS rank just because of that, but combat bishop Bae is also very broken on its own merits.

Towa - Powerstaff god 2, can replace or complement Lamy. The only stat she cares about is magic and she can cap magic with one asacoco usage. she does not give a fuck about losing any defensive stats from the asacoco because she already blows up at base to like 99% of enemies to begin with by the time she joins so asacoco is basically a net benefit.

Luna - has 2 authority stars and more importantly a fucking horse with 18 aid which lets her pick up shit that you captured using suisei/noel and drop them off instead of needing suisei to waste a turn to release her capture. she also staffs as a main which is huge and promotion gives her B in whatever magic she goes for. Mage Knight is better than Valkyrie here due to the generally stronger spread of anima tomes (including chapter 5 bolting) and shaver lets her be a very effective capturebot. More importantly though promotion also gives her Corona which turns her attacks into true damage so she will basically output a ridiculous amount of damage while shade lets her be positioned aggressively and still avoid dying generally. she can also use candy staff as an emergency “oh god oh shit oh fuck” option to full heal your entire team.

Sana - probably a strange pick to many people but she is very slept on. Master crown promotion gives her S staves and light which lets her use seiso’s light to deal decent damage on the monster enemies but more importantly you get a free entrap/fortify/status staff whatever the fuck user that can hit 50 magic with spirit dusts without having to sacrifice a bishop to promote into the slayer-less battle sage. also has reposition and white pool which gives her situational utility, but overall just being able to staff is godly

Kronii - 20 authority stars 50 str/skl/spd means you’re already using her regardless of the fact that she’s forced deploy anyway. her presence also means you can basically use whichever shitter you want for the last 3 maps and still have like max hit as long as you bring enough auth stars among your like 20+ deploy slots lmao

S Rank

Iroha - fastest non-Kronii unit in the game and is virtually immortal because her base avoid is so ridiculously high you’d have to mess up real bad for her to die. her downside is she likes to delete her weapons because 45% to proc astra lmao. on 0/min growths she is also the only realistic user of steal+ because polka won’t gain enough speed to steal anything in time and this lets her do some funny shit like steal space seal from the ch22 boss.

Korone - coming with endgame level bases in chapter 16 with 10 movement is utterly ridiculous period. she has no 1-2 range but i dont think you need it.

Akirose - only needs 2 levels to hit promotion following which she basically becomes choco 2.0 but with one more movement. feeding her levels is also not difficult because she starts in a defend chapter with a fixed turncount clear so you have a lot of room to feed her kills in wyvern rider. her base stats post-promo into Wyvern Knight are very similar to choco but she has B lances and 8 movement which lets you do stuff that choco literally cant. she will likely need a robe to improve her survivability at some point and she basically hogs Fork after chapter 15, but because nobody else is realistically hitting S lances in time it’s pretty much a pseudo-PRF for her anyway.

Polka - supply convoy, also a very good bait to throw at enemies earlygame for pulling if you’re aiming to capture them since she has 50 hp and decent defenses. unironically a strong contender for the steal+ scroll on normal runs since it gives her something to do on player phase that isn’t rallying or using vulns and also accelerates her exp gain because steal is 10 EXP vs 1 EXP for tanking an enemy hit, and 30 con means she can steal almost anything possible.

Laplus - has ridiculous growths and is very easy to train up in chapter 10 because the inner room is full of 1 range enemies that she can potshot from a 1 tile chokepoint on the map. if she is given blossom she will scale to the point of being able to steamroll the game, but even without blossom she still gains enough levels to basically be an actual unit by the end of chapter 10. getting her gaiden means she can promote into a class with S staves/dark and be another staff god (or use the s rank dark tome to nuke stuff)

Suisei - best capturebot for most of early to mid game due to her ridiculous 17 aid and having axes is huge when the earliest promoted enemies you fight are lances. scales very fast as a result due to capturable killer axe in chapter 4 and being able to promote into berserker early. Light affinity and very fast supports with Bae/Polka and her gen 0 mates (Sora Miko and Roboco) also means she can lean into a very reliable crit stacking build especially since A support with Miko gives her an axe that basically always crits on player phase lol. Drops off a bit lategame due to mediocre-ish speed but her earlygame contributions are incredibly valuable and enough to carry her here

Roboco - imagine having FE7 Luna as your PRF but it also has a might stat and 50 uses

Fauna - Lowkey has very strong uses throughout the entire game. Selection is vastly superior to Society as your chapter 1 pick as it lets fauna do melee combat while also OHKOing ch3x pegs, and negating defense in general is very good in this game. Can be used as bootleg Roboco while providing good offensive and (mainly) defensive support with lily’s poise. the real kicker for Fauna is in chapter 21 she can learn rally spectrum from an event which combined with canto+ from ranger promo makes her the best lategame rallybot (especially since you can grab rally movement to complement spectrum from the ch23 secret shop)

Anya - 10 movement flier with permanent 1-2 range that also somehow deletes every monster you come across is epic. she also has like a really broken exp curve so she’ll scale up very fast. also the sole reason why identity gaiden is tolerable on 0% instead of impossible

A Rank

Amelia - Probably the hardest unit to rank in the game. The main lord and also a very strong support character due to her personal skill which is required for some capture or kill setups earlygame. Learns Resolve at level 20 which turns her into a very good offensive powerhouse + support (resolve buffs strength which buffs investigation) and also makes her a good recipient of str/speed boosters to patch her stats if they’re middling. still technically a swordlock footie i guess. Gets glock access after recruiting Iofi which gives her permanent 1-2 and is her highest MT weapon for Investigation which is cool ig

Reine - has actual bulk earlygame and can also use barrier blade to pump her defense so that she wont die. There is actually a funny strat you can do which is repeatedly feeding her training sword kills in chapters 3/3x/4 and if she’s taken like 20+ kills with the training sword she’ll be at A or very close to it which lets her wield silver swords (you can start capturing them on chapter 5). you dont actually have to do this though because her best weapon is shaver which is buyable in bulk in chapter 7, and her access to rally speed makes her indispensable on certain maps like KFP where your survivability is entirely dependent on whether you get doubled by chickens. More or less falls off after chapter 13 though when you get Kiara. Magic damage is not nerfed when capturing which also lets her be a very good capturebot earlygame. Gets a huge stat buff if her clone is killed in identity gaiden including capped hp and like 20 strength but she kind of falls off by then and she never gets staff access despite being in battle sage. ouch

Risu - even better bulk than Reine and has good resistance as well along with actual offensive bases. has two good promo options, witch gives her flight while summoner is useful for identity gaiden to bait crap. rally defense is also clutch to have for that map

Kiara - has like one gazillion bases that doesnt matter because she has rally spectrum which is incredibly fucking stupid and basically turns midgame into free elo. her downside is no canto+ which means she will likely fall behind your army because she rallies your carries and then they fly off into god knows where.

Noel - has ridiculous base bulk for earlygame and a hammer prf that is also like pretty accurate. fast support with Flare for a 25 use siege weapon that’s super dumb to have. Gets a free promo from her gaiden and also a ridiculous stat bump that for some reason requires her to be at most level 10 to get. Not sure why it works this way but it does mean you kind of have an incentive to not use her that much. Her free T3 has tower shield+ which blocks all non-melee damage on EP which has some degree of use later in monster arc (she baits dracozombies for 0 dmg).

Flare - pretty much carried by the aforementioned PRF, but is pretty okay in archer before that due to good offensive bases.

Mio - incredibly bulky and has B rank staves just before a FOW map which lets her spam torch for staff wexp. also 2 auth stars and tomerange+1 letting her do silly stuff like shaver at range. overall better utility than your standard filler

Mel - silly high bases (37 magic base and 44 after promoting to necromancer lmao) and very strong support skills in charm and white pool at base. has C staff base in druid/necromancer which is kind of meh but if you have enough hammerne uses to spare she can technically do some status shenanigans lategame with a huge ass magic stat and access to nephilim’s sorrow to buff it. if you didn’t get Laplus gaiden then she is kind of your only good option for nephilim’s sorrow in the first place lol

A- Rank

This is technically where the shitters start but there are still some uses to these memelords

AZKi - technically a secondary dancer that can be used in multiple chapters if you’re careful about her exp gain. just don’t waste it bardtraining on her join map. if you do somehow decide to use her in combat for whatever insane reason i guess she can work but i’m not sure what you’re going to do with a meh level 1 mage in chapter 9 lol. Unlike baelz, she cannot promote into Bishop since baelz’s class is unique.

Ollie - provoke is the only reason she’s here. AI manipping is kind of useful but her 4 movement is absolutely brutal and she will require regular rescuedrop usage to not get left behind. devil’s whim on her technically sucks but you can also just remove rotten claw from her and just use her as bait; with counter she can still deal damage to enemies even without a weapon.

Calliope - she joins right after you’re basically done with monsters lmfao. that said the real boon for calli is savage blow works like a refresh for some reason so you can technically use her as a refresher. she also has 5 auth stars so you’re probably going to deploy her anyway. her speed is however absolute dogass for endgame 1 so have fun i guess

B Rank

Rushia - very bulky with a necromancer promo (do not go druid) but otherwise mostly just worse Mio due to having no base staff rank or auth stars (and also her bulk is worse than base Mio, 15/1 necro Rushia has 50 HP / 19 DEF / 20 RES is fine but Mio also has 50 HP and has 23 DEF/26 RES and spectrum stance). Has a slight niche in endgame 1 due to great shield and barricade+ letting her tank the infinite brave axe master knight reinforcements, especially with stacking shield seals

Kanata - technically has slayer so she can do some okay offense in monster arc. If you use the convoy skill bug, you can transmute Killing Machine (buyable from ch25 secret shop) into Investigation which lets her use her 60 STR as a support stat. Doesn’t do much else other than that since Resolve is also otherwise whatever on her as it doesn’t buff magic. (it does buff investigation though if you’re into that level of meme)

Lui - has very good bases at join and can instantly promote and get Tower Shield which lets her basically hard stall every ranged enemy in ch 10. Is kind of okay deployment afterwards. Ideally, don’t get fortress defense it’s overkill and hurts her damage.

Matsuri - technically has a very good payoff but if you do not get level 10 within her join map she becomes very difficult to scale. If you can accomplish that though then she promotes to cavalier for chapter 14 which lets her use elite sword to farm pirates and speedrun to level 10 so she can go to great knight. Ideally she finishes gen 1 gaiden as level 10+ great knight for optimal stat gains and the free master knight promotion. Has thighforce so she can re-move off being next to Ame or Marine which is very nice because they buff damage

Aqua - she has like 33 base speed which is pretty much fast enough for rest of monster arc, but her overall damage output is lacking. Kind of alright filler if you can grind her to s swords and use peko’s gambit while having 2 auth stars

Ayame - if you don’t skip 16x she actually will likely gain enough exp and wexp to hit S swords for peko’s gambit. Lucky 7 makes her avoid pretty passable and Asura is good damage on monsters as her PRF.

Fubuki - If you transform into Kurokami she gets slayer which is fine until you realise Kurokami is basically forced to use magic swords and most of them don’t have good might. It’s good enough for a while but not really ideal long term since EXP gained in Kurokami form doesn’t transfer to Shirakami. As Shirakami she gets double lion at level 15 which is absolutely busted but the only real way to get her there fast enough is feed her elite sword egg kills in chapter 19 which is difficult when the eggs are everywhere. Also her base speed is balls.

Marine - white_pool.exe, also has berserker access for weird crit strats in chapter 15. Kind of a shittier version of Suisei all things considered but berserker is a decent enough class to be in.

Iofi - Her stats aren’t exactly the best but having a 45 MT prf helps mask that, beyond that though she doesn’t exactly do much as a pure combat unit.

Zeta - Joins with very good speed and despite leaving after chapter 15, she comes back with actually competent stats for lategame. Her main issue is not having steal+ but she still has innate steal property so she can steal some things like the ch15 drowned’s holo emblem. Her toolkit and improved stats actually makes her very useful in 24x where she is forced as she can basically walk all the way to the first door and secure the spot there.

C Rank

Botan - a very useful deploy in pekoland due to her ability to reliably turn off miracle on bishops by using longbow while having 99 hit, and having deadeye which lets her sleep stuff and gives her actual hit rates in chapter 9 during the funny saias phase. If trained, she learns crit boost at level 20 and double lion at level 15 promoted which is good, but it’s kinda hard to feed her EXP to get there in the first place.

Nene - Your first flier which on paper sounds good until you get Aki a full 17 levels higher just 2 maps later. She has some ok utility in chapter 4 and 7 due to flying but training her when you can just use Aki and Choco is sus.

Koyori - Honestly very very very borderline D rank. her base speed is so low for this point of the game it’s almost an actual joke and she has no physical bulk to top it all off. The only reason why she isn’t straight up bottom tier is because having B rank and 20+ magic means she technically has some use as a status staff bot, but when you get a bunch of strong staffers right after her it puts Koyo in a very awkward position.

Ina - has huge burst damage for her join time but the rest of her stats are kind of mediocre. With AO she has like very respectable durability but Mio literally joins on the following main chapter map with much better bulk.

Gura - technically has decent bulk and super technically can contribute but she’s almost never really the optimal choice for anything. Being bulky isnt even unique in this regard when most of the dark mages available in the game also have bulk and that’s not considering Noel or Lui.

Kaela - if you spam KRH69 she can get A staves which is very cool, but her magic is a lot lower than other candidates at this point. The main draw she has is existing in identity gaiden and if you want to use entrap or fortify she’s probably the only one who can use them.

IRyS - flier with no canto for some bizarre reason. She can technically use seiso light for damage but if you’re deploying her chances are its for her auth stars.

Moona - pretty much auth bot i guess? Has decent-ish stats and very usable if you want to train her up, but there’s not much for her to stand out with.

Pekora - she is god in a rigged LTC context because she has infinite movement and turns (as long as she has items to heal with). without rigging for re-move procs she’s basically a meh thief that has 2 auth stars.

Friend C - mostly exists for the ability to use dragon vein to cheese chapter 20 and 23. she does have good damage on monsters as the dragonstone has effective damage on them though. could probably be higher idk

Shion - She technically exists I guess, but having bases that are somehow only barely better than Risu joining 7 chapters prior is not a good look. She technically can summon on chapter 16x which helps to bait stuff so that’s just about a good excuse to stay out of D

Mumei - Probably going to be controversial, but imho Mumei is absolutely terrible. This is a thief that can’t even do her job already in chapter 2 because the stealables are on myrms that have higher speed than she does, to put it in perspective. Mumei basically needs to be rushed to D swords asap to have any decent combat utility (so that she can wield barrier blade and tank basically) and while society is a good PRF for her, selection is just so much better it’s not even a contest tbqh. The steal+ scroll in chapter 9 just means you can give anyone with better speed and con than her the ability to steal so she’s not even unique in this regard anymore. The real reason why she’s not D rank is because of her free deploy on the early maps as well as lockpick access which gives her an excuse to be deployed on chapter 9, but with chest keys buyable in preps this is also a questionable niche at best. If she doesnt level speed she is toast but her speed growth is 60% which is a 40% chance for her to continue to be stuck in her rut of meh.

D Rank

The bottom of the barrel time.

Chloe - She’s not fully terrible per se due to her ability to reposition and being able to get canto out of it, but really you may as well just deploy Reine by this point who can also rally speed. Probably has the best argument to not belong in D rank but really she’s just kinda mediocre. 27 speed steal is also like fine but there’s barely anything to steal for her unlike zeta and since she doesnt have steal+ innate she can’t steal the actually good crap like staves.

Subaru - I know people will think I’m crazy for putting a early mount with 20 base skill here but if you cease the kneejerk and think a bit deeper, this is a unit that has questionable base speed, okayish at best offense reliant on killer lance crits and kind of poo bulk that relies on 20% sol procs. like just consider Aki joining 3 levels higher on the same map but with 7 more defense at base and post promo makes even better use of killer lance due to death blow. one might think that her high con is good but in reality this is a capture game and mounts having high con eats into their aid. Not sure about others but when you get two good fliers in the same map having a mediocre cav kind of blows LOL

Okayu - the thief with almost nothing to steal. the thief with speed that’s barely enough to steal in chapter 18 i guess. Probably the only good thing about her is Charm access to help buff damage, a utility which is not even necessary or unique to her.

Kobo - idk what to say about this thing. she is somehow a worse version of ina who is already a sidegrade of rushia at best and they’re all worse versions of mio. trying to use her personal actually hurts her because she has no con. you have to actually use kiara/marine to assist her just so she can nostank on her join map. her existence feels like a practical joke. i guess she technically has good chip on identity gaiden but like when you’re stuck with just some tools you have to make everything work somehow.

I have some questions about the tier list, in general I think it’s good but some unit tier placements and decisions feel strange to me.

SS-tier: Bae, why do you make Bae a bishop, she doesn’t need slayer to kill enemies as everything she touches dies due to 100% crit and the +1 range from sage is very nice in chapter 20 to kill the longbow snipers and to outrange bosses.

S-tier: Fauna, how is selection better than society is it just the 1-2 range? I think Mumei is a vastly superior combat unit as she is much faster and doubles most enemies where Fauna struggles to do that early game so instead of Fauna with selection doing 20-25 dmg, Mumei with society will do 18-20 x2 dmg instead. Society also has 5 more uses. Is rally spectrum with canto+ that good to warrant and S tier rating when Kiara that has rally spectrum from chapter 12 onwards is only A-tier. Fauna is also locket into the second worst class set only behind armour knights she is only a character in player phase without Selection and she has mediocre speed so she can’t kill tanky fighters even when standing next to Ame without a rally boost from Reine, which Mumei with society will kill when standing next to Ame.

A-tier: Kiara, as mention in the Fauna section rally spectrum from chapter 12 onwards is surely enough to grant an S-tier placement, even if she gets left behind often.

B-tier: Fubuki, she is trash as a unit until double lion but due to a glitch she can duplicate items in her inventory meaning that you can farm battle sage seals, speedwings or staffs. Maybe bump her up to A- as she technically can be useful as useful as Azki’s 10 dance uses.

C-tier: Mumei, maybe I overate her a lot as she got engage rings and society in my playthroughs but she is still usable as a thief if she gets kills in chapter 1, 2 and 3. Mumei will likely get 20 speed in thief class before level 20 and be able to steal items from enemies fairly quickly after the first few chapters. A trained Mumei will also have very few units that are faster than her so steal+ scroll is not as good as steal+ from Mumei except for her low con stat making it hard to steal good weapons.

This was a very insightful tier list and I will try out some units that you have tiered higher than I did on mine during the playthrough that I’m currently doing. Also is there a way to see the base stats of the units somewhere.

Thanks for the reply, some clarifications to your questions:

Bae definitely needs slayer to reliably one shot some promoted monsters lategame (or at least oneshot without a ridiculous magic stat). Just in say chapter 21 alone you are already fighting elder baels with over 100 HP. The frailest of these requires at least 34 damage (102/3, i don’t remember their exact hp even so this number could be higher) to kill with crit which if you combine with their resistance stat means you need at least 46+ attack to one shot them at sage which requires like 35 magic with the shaver tome. this is an incredibly shaky benchmark to reach for a unit with only 25 magic growth; at level 20/15 for instance (which is already a lot of investment) Baelz only has 15 magic on average (7 mag base + 1 from promo + 29 levels of 25% = 15.25). With slayer the benchmark drops to 22 attack with shaver since you get an extra 24 might of damage which requires only a 10 magic baelz.

If we consider other enemies on this map, cyclops are also around 100 HP with similar resistance so the numbers work out the same. Wights and all unpromoted enemies are super frail so they will boom to just about anything with the crit setup (you only need 20 damage to kill wights with crit which works out to about 35+ ATK without slayer). Dracozombies are technically bulky but they’re also weak to shaver so sage kills them either way. Maelduins are around 60-65 HP with res stats over 20, so if we consider the lower bound, it’s 40 ATK in sage to kill them with a crit but you can knock that value down to a mere 16 with effective shaver.

Jumping ahead to ch22, symbiotes are around 80+ HP with just below 30 res. Taking a hypothetical one at 81HP/27RES, this works out to about 27 damage crit needed minimum to OHKO = 54 attack required with sage. This is a benchmark that not even shaver and capped magic can accomplish without any more external help, whereas once again shaver bishop brings that down to 30 attack which only requires 18 magic baelz, a benchmark that a slightly blessed bae will be able to accomplish. One of them is also particularly notorious on this chapter for having like bolting with nearly 40 AS so if we try to kill this guy with bolting crit bishop baelz hits that kill way easier and the numbers are the same because bolting and shaver have the same MT.
(edit: i realised you cant ohko symbiotes normally due to miracle so just for argumentation’s sake assume bae has nihil or something since you already have two scrolls of it by now)

I could go on more but you get the idea.

1-2 range and being able to reliably one-shot pegs on counter in chapter 3x is incredibly huge given how they otherwise are very annoying to deal with due to their ridiculous range and that most of your team at this point cannot take multiple hits from them, especially when they double you without holding training or slim sword. Mumei faces WTD on them with society but Fauna ignores the triangle entirely because bows aren’t part of it. Most earlygame enemies also use lances so context wise Mumei is like facing down 70ish hit with society AND has to eat counter while doubling, while Fauna just does huge chip and enough for another unit to follow up. alternatively Fauna has better hit since Mumei’s base skill is so bad she actually has 14 less base hit than Fauna (7 difference x2) which is greater than society’s hit advantage against selection, which works out to society mumei having 4 less hit than selection fauna before weapon triangle.

Mumei’s base speed is also very overrated, already in chapter 2 she cannot steal the archive because the myrm averages like 14 speed to her base 12 and in chapter 3x if she doesn’t roll speed proc at least once she misses out on doubling fighters (never mind that one of them has swordreaver and will probably kill her). in chapter 4 mages average at least 10 AS and can roll up to 11 so Mumei needs 3 speed procs to double them reliably which at 60 speed growth would already require 5 levels worth of investment on average. Whether this benchmark is reachable is YMMV by this point but personally I feel Fauna works better here when she chips something and someone else can kill while benefitting from lily’s poise, or straight up killing anyway with very uncounterable damage.

(also another point in selection’s favour is it’s just way easier to obtain because Fauna starts blue in chapter 1 and you can just get it very trivially while Mumei’s green unit AI is very unpredictable and impossible to control since it’s reliant on her combat in an entire group of forests making overall hitrates shaky)

re: Rally spectrum - the skill by itself is very good, but Kiara’s big drawback is using it will basically cause her to be permanently behind your army because her movement is average at 6 and she can’t canto+ to keep up until the ch23 secret shop. There are times where this isn’t a problem (e.g. chapter 15 where chances are she will be near the action anyway because some ships have way too many enemies to deal with) but a lot of the time she basically just ends up falling back and not doing much EP. Fauna can maintain this with ranger and if we assume selection is getting picked then she will have her 1-2 range anyway (in addition short bows are 1-2 in this hack + rangers get swords so saying she is only a player phase character isn’t really right but whatever)

I did not factor in this glitch when ranking since it does not seem very controllable (there have been times where I transformed Shirakami with seemingly no issues and others where the glitch happens) and at the same time I prefer to rank with as little glitch abuse as possible. The only unit I mention a glitch for is Kanata which I did not ultimately factor into her final ranking as she isn’t really reliant on that and her main use beforehand is slayer + resolve/desperation strats.

I have a 0 growths ROM and save files of every chapter from when I was recording my 0 growths playthrough so I have pretty much easy access to all characters’ base stats. Alternatively you can check in builder by setting the stat calculator’s level to be the same as unit base level.

There are also some characters that join with autolevels (Suisei is a notable example of this) which can skew their early performance as well so you need to keep note of that

Your arguments make sense, I realise that most of my arguments that I have against you use the fact that there are a lot of stat boosters to use and I force them on the unit I like without thinking if they are actually good without them. Anyone can be a god if you use all the stat boosters on the same character, which I always do. As an example Bae is the best unit by far with stat boosters as she has 100% crit meaning that in my playthroughs (where she got every magic ring until she capped magic) I could afford to not promote to bishop as she has the speed to double and magic to one shot all enemies, she also has high hp, def and res stats due to using stat boosters on her.

I’m wondering in your ironman runs which units got stat boosters such as the early magic rings in chapter 3x/chapter 5, the coffee in chapter 4 and the pettanshield in chapter 4. Did you use the two master proofs you get and if you did on who? Mostly I’m wondering who got the resources that are there to me it seems like Bae should get all the resources, but maybe you have a different opinion.

Also thank you for showing me how to check out the base stat of units.

For the ironman off the top of my head

  • ch4 coffee and shield go into Ame for the purposes of making sure she doesn’t die generally
  • ch9 engage ring goes to Ame as well, dont remember about the ones from ch11
  • Aki was fed one robe for some improvement in reliability since otherwise her HP is a bit on the low side at only ~35 post promo
  • Magic rings are basically always hoarded for Sana to jump straight to 40+ magic post promotion
  • Asacoco distribution is one each to Towa, Luna and Roboco. The latter two is pretty much whoever you think would benefit from +10 to str/mag and skill, so it can be a bit fluid on that imo. Towa takes one asacoco just because there’s really no reason not to and it guarantees her capped magic instantly, 40 magic powerstaff is about as broken as it sounds.

The bulk of the remaining statboosters go into Roboco who basically nukes every lategame enemy with base strength + rifle + chaotic. this means all you need to do is feed her archives and everything else is just making sure she doesn’t die. Midgame is very stable between blossom laplus + choco/aki/korone/kiara who are enough to carry most of the combat by themselves, so burning boosters in this section of the game is not as necessary

How does Roboco get chaotic is it an A rank support skill?

I should replay on the newest version. My playthrough was completed on 1.3 something, so I don’t know about some of the changes like the Fubuki one. I also didn’t get true ending. I never got to see full potential Laplus, but I think blossom Bae was still very fun. I also think there was a postgame challenge added later which I want to see.

Hello S4S thread it is I Hatsuru.

It has now been a month more or less, and I would like to implement more UPDATES and not leave you all in the dark on what I have been up to development wise.

So lets get to it, shall we?

This month was dedicated towards writing and general asset collection. You can see some of the work done by @Tezuka_Yamigami in his thread here. As I’ve also shown off, some characters will now have custom animations to reflect certain special classes that Fire Emblem usually doesn’t have.

I’ve definitely learned a lot with battle animations. So I hope I can make more in the future. Though, I won’t give everyone personal animations in-game. Maybe as a side project perhaps I can do so, but for now, just for the girls that are special classes.

I also took time to refine the main title screen a bit more.

Slowly but surely, we’ll get there.

Moreover, writing has been a big part of me this month. I definitely want to follow some of Thracia’s story beats, but I’m going to DIVERGE from the path a bit to reflect more on S4S’s identity as something more than just a Thracia-like. One thing that bothered me a bit was the lack of special text for different situations. I attemped to do that early on, but it slowly just…dissipated I thought. So, I wanted to do something akin to something like the Nanna recruitment chapter.

It’s minor, but having different dialogue for different situations really add more soul. I hope I can do more than just escape quotes, though we will explore more with what the future holds.

Another minor thing, but I’ve added the original artists to each song (with of course the arrangements being credited in the big-credits file). So if you’d like to search for them on your own time, you’d know who they’re from.

Koyori the Coyote

I guess I can also talk about the Koyori rework too.

Koyori and Iroha now spawn as early-join units. And with this, I have given Koyori a few distinctions from the regular magic user.

Her previous utility function idea was neat, but I could do way better (I have).

Koyori will now be able to use her chemicals to create a random utility item thrice per map. This also includes statboosters and possibly skills, though at a very small %. Furthermore:

Scientists are usually smart, but fraile. So I aim to make her an effective utility unit with the chances of being able to deal large amount of damage given you dedicate time for her. She’ll come much weaker than your other units (think Amelia but frailer), but she will have access to all magic types and staffing. Obviously, this will be subject to change, as I need to figure out how to CODE everyone’s personal skills. But, we’ll see how far we can go with what she has currently.

And thats all for now. Until next time, and the Search for Seiso continues!

I have some questions about chapter 23:

In part 2 if you killed Kronii in part 1 is Kronii supposed to spawn in turn 1 (right after the first enemy phase) and is the infinite reinforcements that normally spawn during turn 6 supposed to spawn at the same time? In part 3 is the map supposed to be fog of war if you killed Kronii in both part 1 and 2? I hope that the fog of war part is intended as that is very cool and feels like you are actually fighting her and not just killing her multiple times because she is set as a reinforcement in all parts.

Also that Towa can die turn 1 in part 2 by the bolting drowned that doubles her without any counterplay feels bad.

Possibly the vial was used once to test it before that screenshot was made.

Correct

Yea it was lowkey kinda mean on my part

fwiw i did come up with a deployment slot counterplay for the Towa issue in ch23 part 2 while doing my ironman run but yeah it’s pretty bullshit on blind if you don’t know it’s coming also tbh if you do know it’s coming you just pure water or rally spectrum/resistance her before moving on so lol

The workaround if anyone is curious

sora has spur resistance while polka lamy has drive resistance so theoretically towa should survive with the extra res

also includes extra counterplay for bad Lamy/Polka resistance (they probably shouldnt die unless you’re on like 0%)

also MFW i didnt kill Kronii in part 2 before so i didnt know about the FOW that you get LOL, i only know she spawns earlier in part 2 if killed in part 1

If you kill Kronii in part 1 and 2 you get some special dialog in part 3 and fog of war. Unfortunately you don’t get one galeforce scroll per kill as I was hoping for. I should have known that Towa could get killed in part 2 as I think she has died every time I have played this chapter, nice workaround with the deployment slots.
