CELICA

This hack was originally created for a contest known as CELICA, where it scored 6th place overall. You can view my original entry here. I wanted to tie up loose ends for a story that grew more and more, and re-introduce cut ideas from the original’s 1 chapter limit. I also wanted to take feedback to make things even less bearable to the player.

If you’ve already completed Rust, you can use the save file here to skip straight to Ch2. Equipment and stats do not carry over from CH1 to CH2.

It also just so happens that between CELICA and now, I broke the saves. The save files work just fine, but suspension and being able to rewind to a previous turn does not. I recommend you use save states liberally when playing Rust and Marble.

I just created an account to say that this was very interesting for a GBA romhack. Now I want to know more about the world of the hack, although not knowing everything might be part of the charm.

Glad to see I’m not the only one still working on my CELICA game lol.
Now you’re going to have to submit a unit named “Marbel” to Myriad Fortunes. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Great work <3

Just finished And Marble (used my Rust save). It was fun!

The CGs & voice acting were definitely the highlight for me - I did not see the latter coming. The secondary map below the stairs was super cool too (although it refreshed everyone when I left it - might be a bug?). In general, this chapter felt even more horror-y than Rust, with some highlights being the Longinus events and the aforementioned voice acting. I also found the zombie stairs event really funny. Controlling the zombies in general was fun.

I don’t have much feedback, except that the exploration felt a bit basic perhaps? It felt like there were slightly too many “simple item” events only giving Manna or Antitoxins, and I ended up discarding most of them anyway. Still, that was pretty minor, especially since the focus here was the horror/story anyway.

Overall though, really enjoyed it! Thanks for making this hack!

units refreshing after leaving the sub-map is a bug. i left it in just for simplicity’s sake, i think it was just the simplest way to do the sub-map code wise. i kind of hoped players straight up wouldn’t notice it, and i didn’t think it would be very abusable? my thought process is that players would almost always use the steps with their first action of the turn, since i set the precedent in ch1 that stairs were always there to give items. unless you knew of the bug, you wouldn’t be able to abuse it. i don’t think that warrants being changed, but hilariously, you DID consider it a bug. in my mind, being taken out of the horror experience is actually way more important than balancing issues, so for THAT reason i may have to fix it lol.
