[FE8] [COMPLETE] Bound Destiny Trilogy

Hello, everyone! This is my series of romhacks titled Bound Destiny, inspired by the Tellius duology, Xenogears, and of course, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

As of August 1st, 2025, all three Bound Destiny games are complete. The planned remakes of the first two games have been postponed indefinitely, as I’ve come to see their rough edges as part of their character.

All games use a clean, English FE8 ROM as their base.

The credits listed here are copied from the credits.txt file packaged with each game.

via VGMTrans, and then converted for use in this romhack.

=========MUSIC=============

Most songs sourced from vgmusic.com and the FEU MusicBlitz repository

NOTE: vgmusic.com is undergoing database maitenence, so I’m unfortunately unable
to search for the exact author credits for files in their “New Uploads” section.
For the time being, VGMusic will be listed as the credits.

The “vgmtrans” creator indicates the song was ripped from the original game
via VGMTrans, and then converted for use in this romhack.
These songs are free-to-use for your own hacks.

Halo 3: ODST piano music sourced from now-defunct Halo MIDI pack,
it might be possible to find on Google under “Halo Piano MIDIs”

Some songs have minor / major edits to instrumentation

Bound Destiny 3 Patch Notes (Last Updated: 11/9/25)

1.01:

  • Removed staff animations due to causing crashes w/ Fortify

  • Fixed Kassim MyUnit not leaving at the start of 2-E: Feathers in the Wind

  • Fixed the objective in chapter 39 being rout instead of defeat boss

  • Fixed the seize point not functioning in chapter 40

  • Fixed map objective checking the wrong flags in chapter 40

1.02:

  • Fixed certain characters having incorrect levels when using
Chapter Select for Parts 2 and 3.

  • Adjusted classes and join levels for some units when using
Chapter Select for Parts 2 and 3.

  • Talent Arts now properly appear in the in-game guide when
using Chapter Select for Parts 2 and 3.

  • Added a fail-safe measure to chapter 41 to allow Canary
save files to access the endgame

  • Adjusted growth rates for certain PRF classes to make
them scale better for later chapters

  • Fixed some minor spelling mistakes.

  • Note: Some Canary saves may have issues progressing past
the turn count list. I’m looking into how to solve this,
but in the meantime it’s highly encouraged to use a new
save file for BD3 going forward.

1.03:

  • Added a proper ending card for Kommo-o (oops) and revised some
    other endings

  • Encore Mode characters will now show in the ending if they
    died in Permadeath mode

  • Added missing palettes for the Encore characters where possible.
Tyranitar and Salamence are missing some palettes due to the battle
    palette table being completely full.

  • Supports now increase between Kassim & Richter, Elena & Mighty
    on chapters 25 and 28.

  • Encore Mode characters now mutually support eachother.

  • Chapter Select now checks for Encore Mode before hiding units
when selecting Part 2 or 3.

  • Blast Seed now deals a fixed 35 damage, and has 20 weight.

  • Ward’s might increased (1 → 8).

  • Removed the Iron Sword from the weapon pool for summons.
Their default weapon is now the Steel Sword, and the Rapier
has been added to the weapon pool.

The credits file has been updated to reflect this change.

  • Increased the strength of reinforcements on chapter 32.

  • Increased difficulty of chapters 10, 11, and 34.

  • Kassim is now force deployed on chapter 8 when in Encore Mode.

  • Siege tomes have been added to various armories throughout the
    campaign.

  • Fixed effective weapons improperly targeting personal classes
such as Firebrand and Heaven Knight.

1.03.1:

  • Fixed Legendary Boss Battle being named incorrectly in the sound room.

1.04:

  • Reworked Feint to share the HP steal effect the other Vantage+ weapons recieved.

  • Fixed Tyranitar being erased after chapter 10 in Encore Mode

  • Changed Swampert’s Occult skill to Vengeance

  • Added some extra hidden events:

    • The Crucible: Visit the stone tile in the top left with Zacharias

  • Congratulations message when entering postgame for the first time now
plays the track “Good, or Don’t Be” rather than a simple jingle

  • More typo corrections

  • Changed dialouge in 3-3 to reflect Lucia’s new support conversations

1.05.1:

  • Adjusted item descriptions of Snatch Steal / Fluxclaw / Feint to

1.06:

  • Fixed Richter dying unintentionally in Permadeath mode.

  • Due to party size limits, Encore mode now gives prompts on whether
to recruit the human variants of each party (ie Mullen + Lucia, the Quartet).
If you recruit them, be aware that the maximum party size is 52 units.
Additional recruits will exceed the party limit, removing your least-deployed
    units permanently to make space.

    Rest Stop.

Universal Features
  • A (mostly) all-Pokemon roster of playable characters!

  • Pokemon Mystery Dungeon inspired items and weapons. Collect a variety of bands, scarves, and more that give passive stat bonuses or special abilities to their holders.

  • Reworked physical weapons loosely inspired by Binding Blade. 40 hit 70 crit focus punch axe go brrrrrr

  • Thracia-esque chapter design: Any insanity the game throws at you can always be thrown back at it twice as hard, particularly with held items and staves. Use capture to steal particularly valuable weapons and items for yourself!

  • Vestaria Saga autosave: An autosave prompt appears every three turns, allowing you to create bookmarks without being able to abuse them.

  • Three-way branching promotions for all characters (outside of story promotions)

  • Level 20 promotions: Promote your units by reaching level 20 and using the “Promote” command. No more master seals needed!

  • Universal Shove

  • Canto+ for all mounted units (access to mounts is heavily restricted, however)

  • Free trading and supply access: Because of the insane number of held items you’ll end up with, trading and using the convoy doesn’t use a unit’s turn.

  • Same-turn rescue & drop for units with Canto+

  • Huge amount of dialogue. Like, a lot a lot of dialogue. These games are actually visual novels with a Fire Emblem minigame attached.

  • Enough music to choke a GBA, tailored to fit the mood of each scene. Songs that originally had lyrics are always picked with those lyrics in mind. Give the originals a listen while you play (particularly the Rush selections in BD3)!

  • A diverse cast of characters written like people you could meet in the real world.

  • Clear Data Transfers: Starting with Bound Destiny 2, you can input transfer codes generated using clear data from the previous title for special bonuses (similar to Radiant Dawn).

Bound Destiny 1 Exclusive Features
  • Party changes with unique convoys. At the end of each part (resulting in a party change), up to 10 items can be put into long-term storage while the rest of the convoy’s contents are lost. Use your resources, or lose them!

  • Post-game trial maps and a special shop for purchasing extra characters & home base music.

  • A small party size that gradually grows into a proper army. Deploy everyone simultaneously; you’ll need the extra firepower.

  • An unwavering commitment to gameplay-story integration.

  • All playable characters are important to the story. Please enable casual mode for your own sanity.

  • A few easter eggs. Some humorous, others just for fun.

BD2: Destiny's Requiem Exclusive Features
  • Two-stage permadeath: Units that fall in battle are captured by the enemy, and those defeated allies will return under the enemy’s control! Defeat the boss keeping your fallen units captive to return them to your army. If a captured unit is defeated before they can be freed, they will die permanently.

  • Home base: Manage units, view base conversations, and more at Sanctuary once you reach Part 3.

  • Tier 3 classes: Learn powerful mastery skills and get access to a wide arsenal of weapons. Tier 2 classes also have 3-way branching promotions, giving each character a massive list of potential classes to choose from.

  • Status seeds: Violent, Sturdy, Quick and Killer seeds can be eaten for positive status effects that last 3 turns.

  • Streamlined gameplay: Units learn a smaller number of skills, and enemy units will only have their class skills. Chapter design is tighter, relying less on staves than BD1.

  • Valor Proofs: Need to catch a unit up quickly? Use a Valor Proof to immediately promote them to their next tier. If the unit is already at their maximum tier, they’ll reset their level and gain the promotion bonuses of their current class again!

  • BD1 Clear Data Transfers: Generate a transfer code in Bound Destiny and input it at the start of Destiny’s Requiem for rewards!

BD3: Resonance Exclusive Features
  • Built on BD2: Tier 3 classes, status seeds and more return from Destiny’s Requiem!

  • Paragon Mode: Gives all playable units Paragon when they join. Trainee units who already had Paragon in their skill set will be given Aptitude instead.

  • Bonus Experience: Clear chapters quickly and without deaths to earn BEX points! Redeem these points at Rest Stops to raise a unit’s level. Pricing is dynamic based on difficulty, class tier, and more.

  • Ledges: New and returning maps feature ledges to shake up gameplay. Stand on the ledge to gain bonus DEF and avoid, but be careful to not let your foes take the ledges as well!

  • Retreat: Map going poorly? Don’t reset, retreat! Use the Retreat command to retry the current chapter while retaining all the EXP and items you gained from the current attempt.

  • Emergency Save: Need to take a quick break, or make a risky play? Spend gold to create a bookmark without needing to wait for the 3-turn autosave.

  • Full anima triangle: Water and grass weapons flesh out the new anima triangle. Water gives DEF & RES bonuses at the cost of SPD penalties, while grass gives flier effectiveness and low weight at the cost of raw might.

  • Battle Arts: Learn arts and turn the tide of battle! All characters learn a unique list of arts as they gain experience, allowing them to spend health to use certain weapons. Some units learn special “Death Blow” arts, featuring powerful effects unique to that particular unit.

  • Talent Arts: Every character has a unique Talent Art available to them through the command menu, with each having a uniquely powerful effect. From self-refreshing to weather manipulation, mastery of these Arts will let you turn a battle around in a flash!

  • Arms Scrolls: Give a unit more weapon experience, or unlock a new weapon rank entirely!

  • Emblems: Collect 8 emblems that give a 30% boost to a specific growth rate and a +2 to the stat itself. There’s also a special emblem that gives a 15% bonus to all growth rates!

  • Weather: Adverse weather has different movement penalties on each movement type. Infantry and armor are unaffected, but cavalry and fliers have reduced movement. Cavalry can travel on road tiles to negate their movement penalty, and all classes can move freely indoors regardless of weather conditions.

  • Brand-new art for every member of the cast to push the series to a new level of graphical fidelity.

  • A return to BD1-style story and characters.

  • BD1 & 2 Clear Data Transfers: Input completion codes from BD1 & 2 for special rewards! Generate a transfer code in Destiny’s Requiem for even more bonuses!

Content Warning

I wrote the original Bound Destiny when I was very clearly not in a good place mentally. These games will challenge both you and its cast of characters. Two of the other inspirations for this series are Spec Ops: The Line and season 1 of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and it shows. Aside from a general dark tone (with plenty of moments of levity, though):

  • A character’s support conversation towards the end of BD1 references an instance of sexual violence. It is regarded as the heinous act that it is in real life.

  • Characters will sometimes discuss adult topics (drinking, intimate acts, etc). These acts are not shown on-screen.

  • Particular characters have no language filter and won’t hesitate to swear if they feel the need for it.

  • One very specific chapter in Bound Destiny 1 was heavy enough that, in retrospect, I decided to add a dedicated content warning for. The notification will appear before any of the chapter’s contents are displayed. This chapter can be skipped for those without the stomach for it, but doing so may hamper the experience.

(Light Spoilers) Clear Data Transfer Mechanic

Starting with Destiny’s Requiem, you can input special codes generated from previous Bound Destiny games to receive unique rewards. Two types of codes can be generated:

  • Completion code: A universal code given simply for completing that particular game. When redeemed in another Bound Destiny game, the rewards will always be the same.

  • Transfer code: A special code unique to the save file that generated it. Units that reached the maximum level for their current class will receive +5 HP and +2 to all other stats when they rejoin in the next Bound Destiny game. Other objectives specific to each Bound Destiny game can be completed for more rewards.

Hey Chief, I don’t think I can beat the first chapter, there is no object for the door set, I cannot open it.

Use the door key from the items option (it says in the guide too)

unfortunately whatever builder version of skillsys BD1 is using broke the menu commands for keys so you have to do it directly from the items menu

Posting some inital impression earl(in-run) feedback. I don’t plan on updating mid-run so if fixes get released, oh well:

Normal difficulty. Ironman-ish. I’m not using the ingame-states for small things only really big screwups. Blind (Looking at spoilers at end of a map, and then not changing what I do at that point). Classic, random growths.

Probably won’t repeat points below for hopefully eventually full feedback. Well maybe 3 posts, 1 per part.
Played tutorial, 1-1 and 1-2 for this:

General feedback:

Pros:

  • I like the characterbox chosen for on-map thingy
  • Steal+ Nice
    *Shove/Capture on everyone nice
  • Canto+ Buff nice
  • Backup-sack in 1-2 for those who didn’t play and/or buy it in tutorial nice.
  • 7 mov lord nice

Cons:

  • Not sure of a solution but it gets a little annoying for shorter turns to be almost-constantly asked “do you want to save?”
  • Mauthe doog weapons in 1-1 lack descrption
  • 1-1 [s] Mentions Celice’s inventory won’t save. A) mine did, unsure if intended. B) warning would be nice if no for blind players. By no means was this a “FINAL” mentioned in guide.
Probably bugs
  • Celice’s Forerunner doesn’t show added growths.
  • A lot of visual bugs in the guide upon scrolling down. Still works though! First section also has repeated entry like 30 times
  • Missing space in pre-1-1 story; “See for yourself when wetry to leave.”
    A few bugs with the house in 1-1. Not evben sure if its meant to still be there;
** When promoted yes or no, hitting “ok” on the no is still treated as yes. Player has to hit the B key (or equivalent) to cancel out.
** Due to split, part 3 blackscreens if you skip text with ENTER
    ** Voyage has placeholder paladins
  • 1-1 lacks battle save, tutorial and 1-2 worked fine.
  • Samurott visited SW village in 1-2, showed Sycther although items went correctly to former.
Oddities, might be bugs
  • Regardless of who visits the house on 1-2, Sycther gets the xp and skill. Also, shows him in the cutscene thing.
  • Citizens has no menu message
  • Lord can just cross river normally in tutorial, so the RescueStaff-as-item is kind of moot?
  • Upon clearing tutorial… you can play it again! Keeping xp/items/gold.
  • 1-1 mentions wild pokemon in guide if taking too long but none show up past inital. Unless maybe a hard mode thing?
  • Starting 1-1 gave me 1,000 gold, unclear from where.
  • The not-great-knight in 1-2 had capped 4 def
  • capture mentioned cutting offensive skills in half but seems to cut def as well.
  • If I have a captive Captured when killing their Trainer, they turn green but disappear on drop instead of showing up like a normal unit. Although unlike normal greens I can still trade with. So, kind of red internally?

Got some feedback!

Part 3 Spoilers

Bound Destiny 1.emulator-64
Bound Destiny 1.emulator-65

Kangaskhan’s name is too long. There’s a simple fix to this, if you change her name to be narrowfont then it will circumvent text issues such as the skill text bugging out, or the battle panel freaking out too.

About 2 weeks of playing on and off to finish part one! Thanks a ton for making this, had a lot of fun mechanically and with the story. I apologize in advance for messy feedback, notes got a bit much to organize nicely.

Overall the difficulty (played on normal) was mostly a sweep in player’s favor. I did have a few mistakes that caused gameover but at worst was set back a few turns. Balance was questionable I’d say. Still, not brain-dead to the point of no fun. May well be on Hard it’s better balanced.

Played part 3 in order.

Some general stuff:

Turn counts! Although it stopped showing chapters at some point, clearly. I know the last 5~ maps were all about 1-2 turn routes.

Pros:

  • Itemsless promotion
  • Lv 30 cap, and higher stats caps.
  • 1-5 is cool with the randomness.
  • Guide
  • Pretty much all of part 2 is very nice mechanically.
  • Universal shove. Don’t ask how an infantry mage pushes flying dragon.
  • Option to replay vs skip second round of 3lm-f
  • 3-way promo
  • Build in “Savestate”
  • Some supports giving skills is nice
  • Nice background art!

Neutral:

  • Curious if Samurott stops spawning eventually or if Heart of Darkness is endless until death
  • Sycther/Seedie (Dancer) were my MVPs for last bit of the game. Re-Move is just overpowered.
Alyx saw the most combat at 319 battles, followed by Feraligator with 305.
  • I didn’t “properly” (if even possible?) recruit Lyca/Corvoknight in end of game.
  • Curious where one is meant to get Blitz Blast before epilogue. I found all the other S ranks.

Cons:

  • Convoy sorting order weird
  • Some cases of units leaving unexpectedly. For example after 1-3 unless looking at [s] Guide.
  • Units vanishing after 1-4. At least items went to convoy instead of void
  • Wasn’t clear how many rounds 1-5 would be.
  • Losing inventory is overall just unfun blind. Spoiler guide mentions some cases but even then the mechanic of transferring isn’t entirely clear at first.
  • Some hint for special code of 2-3 for blind player would be nice.
  • 2-8 (2-final) has a conversion that auto-scrolls instead of needing input to advance. Easy to miss a line of text.
  • 4-2 seems softlockable.
  • Overall first bit of 4 are just not fun without supply bag.
  • I hate to say it after abusing so much, but Re-move is overpowered. In the first place just a 40 luk cap + Luk band is strong. But then one can get Blitz scarf. And eventually conqueror cape. With that, any random unit (yay for star band, rip only carrying over 1) can get a weapon + 85% roll. Twice. Since canto re-rolls if it didn’t proc after action. Without weapon its possible to reach 90 on generic units on an absurd 95% on sycther. Yay for 1-2 turn routes of endgame maps.
Bugs and/or oddities
  • Visual bug when promoting shows skill drops to 1
  • Trying to view description of Tammuz in convoy freeze the rom. In-inventory works.
  • Throughout the hack, foes will randomly get stats debuffs as was common in old version of skill sys. Even including losing max hp. While funny, does ruin difficulty. For example 1-4 boss had… -17 str. So 0 effective str.
  • Capturing ballista near boss of 1-3 seems to remove the weapon from its inventory. One further away worked normally for trading with enemy.
  • 1-3 NE-most chest sprite doesn’t change to “opened” after being looted
  • Pilfer effect doesn’t work during EP in 1-5 despite still popping up to say “Pilfered-X”
  • Secret code for 2-3 seems to not work.
  • Typo in 3k-1 “And do whatever;s needed to win”
Enemy Master knight and swordmaster have def/res stats respectively set to a singlie-digit cap. Presumably oversight instead of meaning for a level 30 knight having… 4 def.
  • After starting first section of m3-1 text, screen goes black and needs input for peg kn (at least A and B work) to show up and advance.
  • 3m-2, 3m-3, 3lm-f and 4-2 objective says “fight or flee” but doesn’t end on route.
  • 3m-7 Arriving with a canto+ unit doesn’t end the map right away rather I have to “use” the extra move. As it counts as an action.
  • Visual display issue with player Master Knight
  • Zoroak can use both Pick and Door/Chest in menu even without a key. The latter do nothing unless he has a key.
  • Despite already talking in 3l-2, Lukas still maintains “Talk: Zoroak” in status page.
  • Swampert has unlisted talk with Zoroak in 3l-3
  • Lukas has visiual bug with sword in combat.
  • 3l-4 Zoroak has unlisted talk with Lukas
  • 3L7 if I have starraptor rescued when they are meant to trigger talk, I remain with a green “rescued” unit with halved stats as usual after they leave the map. Dropping doesn’t spawn anything though.
  • 3l-7 Warrior by door objective has move but doesn’t move. Wrong ai setting?
  • Like with 1-1, both yes and no give same result when given option to select skipping a replay of 3lm-f. I have to instead hit the no command instead of option in pick to play the map. hitting “yes” on yes or no options skips. Also, hitting enter once 3lm-f starts talking will skip player’s option to pick or not.
  • Markus using a range 2 sword will lock game at range 1 or 2 if anims are on. 1-1 swords work fine.
  • Northmost house in 4-2 restart chapter while “keeping” current state.
  • Post 4-2 talk mentions Geneious" I presume not intended and should be genius
  • 4-2 has Troopers with Spur Strength twice
Sandlash’s Amaterasu doesn’t seem to work. (Can’t recall if it did at first, pretty sure yes but broke for return later)
  • pre 4-7 talk again says “Geneious” I presume not intended and should be genius
  • Via boots + mobile band one can get >15 move. Wiggling arrow at long distance bugs out, even lead to a “crash to start screen”.
  • scrolling down to Drain Swipes in convoy with description already open freezes the rom. Going up works, as does scrolling to it an thne toggling descprtion
  • Somehow found myself with a 175 use anew staff in postgame
  • Brave brace + 1 durability = still doubles even if first hit lands.
  • Swampert joined as level 30 with 0 instead of – xp postgame. Can level to 31 but then must promote.
Things I'm less certain are bugs but still may be
  • 1-3 assassin flees right after spawn.
  • Blast Seed doesn’t seem to halve stats for capture
  • Not-yet-moved-unit doesn’t get turn-ended if they are Rescued and Dropped.
  • 1-4 has a Fighter spawn on Fence terrian.
  • 1-5 and 2-1 seem to lack battle saves
  • (vanilla fe) Monster weapons mostly don’t have stat displays
  • Can’t Capture with a gun
  • 2-4 ends a turn after route
  • Spoiler code seems to do nothing in 2-8
  • Guide only exists up until end of 2-
  • Venom/poison weapons seem to be not effective vs Knight or Journeyman, but yes Warrior
  • Fleet can walk on land. (iirc leftover vanilla thing, pirate movement but still)
  • shadow ball desc mentions “targets res” but isnt that default for dark?
  • Dile Scarf works on any units.
  • “Give-all” command in preps only gives 1 item at a time if convoy > 100
  • In prep, some missing pixels from katarina full body
  • There’s mention of “No transfer in part 2”, but respective part 3s carry over inventory into convoy.
  • Armor in 3m-3 doesn’t move to attack units in range. (listed move, doesn’t move)
  • Sandslash vanishes, with inventory, after 3m-7. No talk or anything that I recall.
  • 3L-2 thief with Quick Attack lacks rank to use it. Brigand at door can’t use Wood Thorn in inventory
  • Seedie can’t promote in-map for t0 > 1t
  • Dancer level cap is 20. Also unsure if caps are same as vanilla or not
  • 4-1 armory and vendor have no event. House can’t be reached.
  • Noticed forts in 4-3 are only healing 10% and not vanilla 20% - forgot to check rest of forts in hack after making this note.
  • 4-8 has some map tiles that looks like wall but are water
  • I can’t proc canto+ right away after using an action to learn it
  • Canto + doens’t proc in arena.
  • 4-8 has generals with listed move that don’t
  • 4-9 had some listed talks that don’t seem to trigger. such as haxorous with markus.

Overall enjoyed, going to play part 2 next!

Good gravy, 50 chapters!? What kinda sorcery is this? Time to see what’s going on in Pokeland, I suppose.

Ohh wow this is really good! I should’ve mentioned in the thread that Hard mode is what the game is designed around, but at least Normal wasn’t completely mindless. If you felt 1 was too easy, definitely give 2’s Hard mode a try.

Thanks for the list of bugs you ran into. I’ll take this and the rest of the feedback into the thread and see how much of it I can fix before the ROM runs out of space. The general feedback I’ll implement in the Director’s Cut after I finish 3.

Thanks for playing!

Currently at 3-4 chained beast however I worry I may have broken the game, I was able to play side quests before they were available thus zoroark and lukas arent playable or its story reason but that bug def confused me as the playable lukas in the sidequest used the old sprite

I do not say this lightly. This is one of the most engrossing and interesting hacks I have ever played. I’ve been playing it (genuinely) for 5 days and I haven’t even finished the first game yet, and it’s so, so hard to put down. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a game (not fangame, not Fire Emblem game, GAME) this much since I first played Red Rescue Team.
