[FE7] Fire Emblem - Sword of Heaven and Earth [Translation Complete v1.2]

Alright, thanks.

Hi😊
I don’t know if it has already been reported, but the dialogue between enemies, in turn 10 of chapter 17 is not translated.

Also, in several maps from previous chapters, when you buy weapons or spells (and you have no space in your inventory and the cart (Arel) is no longer in the map) the text of the shopkeeper refusing to sell them (because there is no space available) is not translated.

When Arel levels up, at the beginning of the map, the text is not translated.

Congratulations on the good translation of this excellent, professional F.E.Hack, a worthy successor to the seventh episode.:wink:

Well, that’s it. I finished my run. Didn’t run into any further issues, aside from Pephredo randomly showing up as a level 0 lord in the penultimate chapter, but that was an old bug with the original hack, it’s no big deal. Honestly, I think it’s cute. One of these days I gotta try to bring her to the endgame, see what happens.

Once again, I’d like to thank you for making this translation. While the story wasn’t anything too special, it was still great to get to experience it after all these years, and having more functional menus than the ones in the old menu translation was a boon in and of itself. And, hey, it was great even just as an excuse to play SoHaE again. So yeah. Thanks a lot for all your hard work!

Not much else to say. Everyone loves seeing screenshots of stats, so here’s my endgame team!

My team

Starting with… Oof… Wow, Saya. You suck. 9 strength at level 7 promoted? Yikes… She was no good ever and did absolutely nothing of note. Very Roy-like. Nice. Her best use was to power up the following two units through the power of supports.

Tsagan is a unit that I’ve used in all my runs. Mostly because I love his design. He’s a standard Oifey, he starts utterly invincible, then as the game goes on he remains good, though he does fall off a little in the later stages of the game due to his lower HP and strength. Still, consistently useful throughout the entire campaign. Good for you, Tsagan!

You know, the fact that his ending card acknowledges his eyes gives me peace of mind. Anyway, he was a slightly worse Tsagan for a good chunk of the game, then he was a slightly better Tsagan for another chunk of the game. Not much else, they were basically the same unit. His early growth was impressive, though. Main reason I stuck with him, 'cause I can tell you, it ain’t his design.

Even the thief was a better fighter than Saya. Even the thief! Look at that! Decent strength! His low bulk and con held him back, but he could kill some things, unlike Saya. Which is just ridiculous, honestly. He supported…

While not as tanky as the average Sergei, Leo makes up for it with speed, speed and more speed. He has accuracy issues and his magic is on the lower side, but… hey, at least he doesn’t get weighed down by fire, like Liane. Anima mages in this game are generally not the best, but I gave him an energy ring, and he got a few lucky points from levels, so his damage by the end was legitimately impressive! Really pleasantly surprised, he didn’t look like much at first.

Speaking of mages, old man Otto was my designated light mage. I went through the trouble of getting him to S light, which meant going through a few chapters without healing, and then in the end he barely used Luce because it was too heavy. Meh. While his offensive stats were rather middling, his good bulk for a mage allowed him to do some frontlining, and his final chapter quote was super good, so I’m glad I stuck with him. He supported…

One of my best units. Heck, maybe even the best. Rabi’s con issues are a bit annoying at first, but then the kid gained so much speed that there was no stopping him. He even doubled with nosferatu at one point! It was a sight to behold. He quickly became able to one-round just about anything, in spite of his lower magic, just thanks to his absurd speed and dark magic’s innate might. When I needed something dead, Rabi was always my go-to guy. Awesome dark mage. Together with Otto, he formed a support triangle with…

The man, the myth, the legend. Feeler, the war dragon with feelings. He who killed the King of Bern and the final boss. Yeah, I gave him the final boss too. I love this guy. While his use as a tank is rather questionable (he gets vaporized by mages), his unblockable damage gives him a legitimate niche. Really fun and unique unit, one of the game’s highlights for me. How often do you see an old manakete in a hack? Not often, lemme tell you that much!

Diana was used because female soldier. It was a bit weird to see her go from Amelia’s clumsy animations to that badass halberdier sprite, but still. She’s super fast, while not neglecting her strength and defense as much as some of the other members of my team. She was held back a bit by her lack of a support partner. The plan was to have her support Emmy, but Emmy grew really poorly and I was forced to toss her out. Oh well, she pulled through regardless.

I used this woman because her design is one of my favorites in the game. She just looks so badass. As it turned out, it was a great idea to use her, because Emmy fell behind hopelessly and took Dorcas with her, leaving Lydia uncontested as the axe specialist of the team. Good defense, good offense, axes and swords, solid bases and growths, she has just about everything you could ever ask of a prepromote. Another one of my favorites from this game. Lovely character.

Gotoh. She does her job, which is to kill a few things in the final chapters. She also served as a late support partner for Lydia, making her even more busted. Thanks for that.

Another unit I used because I like her design. Well, that, and I’m one of the few who remembers she exists in FE6 and thinks she was a great character for how little screentime she got. Really glad that she was done justice in this game. Though she was pretty useless in the endgame, up to that point she was a really solid flier. Fine unit.

Beautiful stache. Absolutely magnificent. As a unit, he wasn’t as impressive as in my first run. He was wonderful there. Here, however, he lagged behind as the game went on. Still, not too bad, he got some stuff done.

Basically Gideon except he exchanges the wyvern for a horse and the beautiful stache for a really pleasant color palette. How appropriate that they supported each other. Both were completely useless in the endgame, and merely decent up to that point, but still, you can do way worse than them.

Bwahahahah… Okay, look, I’m a sucker for beards. That’s the only reason I have ever used this guy. Latejoining general with mediocre stats isn’t the best look, but when you have possibly the best beard I’ve seen in any FE and hack I’ve ever played, well… I just have no choice but to give you a shot, haha! He took a couple statboosters, but he was a useful tank that could dish out some moderate damage. Honestly, that’s all I need. He could have 0 base stats and I’d still use him for that incredible beard of his. Look at it, it’s beautiful!

Yikes, your Saya suffered the same fate my Rabi suffered from. That is far too low str/mag for Saya, and only something to expect from someone with way too low str/mag growths like Thany.

Btw, about Chapter 14, is there any penalty for killing the Arslan Nomads and Myrmidons?
Doesn’t seem like anything is happening while trying to keep those 7 guys from killing themselves.

Saya has only 10% more str than Shanna tho

Yeah, 40-45% is still a pretty decent growth rate tbh. Just that, barely getting any str points before promoting to the point the str is in the single digits as a promoted unit with like 40% or higher str growth is just very unlucky. Pretty sure that also way below average to boot.

hey guys I think this hack is good
btw does this hack have anything in it that warrants save states, I plan to play this on my 3ds (gotta use it for something) and the program I use to run gba games on it doesn’t use save states

Hi😁
Do you use GBARunner2 included in TwilightMenu? I’m using these on DSI XL, and I got to chapter 17 gaiden without any difficulty, no savestates needed.

I use a program on my laptop that allows me to play gba games using the emulator nintendo designed for the ambassador program which gave people who bought the 3ds early a few gba games. Most of the system’s functions shut down in order to be able to run it.

Just a minor issue here.
So I’m on Chapter 18 now, and going through preparation and checking the map to see what the chapter has going on. So I went to check the equipment of the Mage Knight sister Enyo to see what she has on her, and I find this glitch for her portrait.

Seems like it always happens whenever she blinks.

@Nikokaro

Thanks for the report, I will make sure to translate what is missing!

The event in that chapter I translated it in version 1.1 if I’m not mistaken, what I find strange is that it was activated, and a person already notified me that the event did not appear, I do not know what is wrong with that event that appears when it wants haha :astonished:

@SaintRubenio

Congratulations on completing it! :+1:

Spoiler

Damn that Saya makes you want to cry if I’m honest…
Initially I had planned to raise her strength growth a little from 40% to 45-50% so that at least she wouldn’t end up like her mother, but in the end I thought it would be better to leave it like that, maybe I should have given her a 45%…

Feeler is definitely a giant help in that final boss xD

@marks3684

I’m not totally sure about it, but I think it doesn’t influence if you defeat Tsas and the group of nomads in that chapter.

It’s strange about Enyo, since his profile box is well placed… did you try to see if restarting the chapter will make it happen again?

The patch that makes the characters blink has only given me problems with 2 specific characters, I have to check it thoroughly. :thinking:

Okay and thanks. Kinda learned that the hard way by spending way too many turns until I finally gave up and killed those 7 guys.

As for Enyo, I did restart the chapter a couple of times before, but apparently the problem with Enyo is still there.

Mmm, maybe in the end I should remove that patch (although it’s a problem because it destroys the rom lol).

Thanks for the report and enjoy the game! :+1:

Oh, she made me cry, all right… Her and Emmy both. Really sad that the thief ended up becoming my best sword specialist…

Nah, I think you made the right call. A translation patch should be just that, it shouldn’t meddle with the gameplay. Or, at least, if you’re going down that route, you should make it a separate version of the patch. Besides, RNG-screwed units are a part of the experience!

For the record, I experienced that glitch too. I didn’t think it was important enough to report, and you did mention a glitched portrait in one of your posts, so I figured it was probably that one.

I wouldn’t worry too much. There’s only like, two portraits that are glitched (none of them playable characters), and it’s not a big gamebreaking bug or anything. I’d say leave it, it’s not a big deal, and trying to remove the patch seems like it would create far greater problems.

Is there any gaiden chapter requirements in this romhack? If there is what are they?

@Brolytkd

There is no requirement. When a gaiden approaches, the game itself will tell you if you want to do it or not. :+1:

Btw, have progressed a bit more into the game, and I noticed some of the other characters you included in this hack from FE 7 has also looks a bit older as well. So are you going to be doing any updates to Dorcas’ appearance, since Dorcas is the only returning character I have seen so far who didn’t have his appearance changed since FE 7.

And another thing to note, I kinda ran into some weird occurance with Gilling’s quote in Chapter 24. When you get in his range, on the enemy’s turn, he would give a speech for his squad to attack your team. A bit later on, when I am near the final boss, after that boss makes his speech and have the hidden units attack you, the start of the next enemy’s turn, Gilling (now dead along with the rest of his squad) is giving the exact same speech as he did before.

If you look closely, Lyn’s appearance is the same as in FE7, I’m not sure if the original author had planned to create a different appearance for them at some point, but since I’m not the author, and it’s been years since he hasn’t shown up either, I can’t say that I have a voice there. :thinking:

About Chapter 24

I think I remember that once I came across something similar, but it only happened if you defeated him very fast…

It’s probably something that can be accommodated in the events, I’d have to check it out.

Thanks for the report! :+1:

Welp so much for that then. As for Lyn, I kinda thought Lyn looks a bit older.

And for Chapter 24, I didn’t really defeat him that fast tbh (I was kinda taking my sweet ass time with getting everything from the chests and killing the morphs, the right sides’ Bern reinforcements and the right side’s 1st wave of Black Dragoon reinforcements before I started to lure him and his squad out while Diana, the female Druid and Rick were keeping Tsas and her crew at bay and stopping them from suiciding into my team), since it feels like it involves the location and his range.
