FE Asset Repository Discussion Thread

That’s exactly what just happened and this was your response.
Please

What are you talking about?
There isn’t even an argument; we both stated that the artist’s intent was x and you said “Well i feel like it’s y, so now it’s y”. It’s not about “making sense”, it’s about just… doing what the artist asked?

I’m not responding to anything else here lol

The still for the sword dismount is designed to look like the sword dismount sprite used for finn/brighton/hicks/etc in thracia

id also like to mention that scattering dismounted sprites among the infantry folders would be really inefficient cause if i want dismounting i have to navigate to like four separate folders instead of just finding what i need where all the mounts are (which would make sense)

and not many people are going to come across a dismounted sprite while looking for an infantry and go “oh yea that perfect”

This was a big waste of time and effort you know that, right? What did this solve at the end of the day?

I feel as if anyone would have said this other than Klok, this wouldn’t have been an issue. He never disagreed that it wasn’t a dismounted cav; just that it didn’t share the same design as the vanilla cav. (Which I agree with; nothing wrong with that). So he wanted to give it a much more broad name. Which can lead to more issues, but I’ll be here all day

Outlander (M) 16x16 {J-Treecko}-stand

Anyone could upload a sprite like this and say it’s a dismounted Swd Cav. (No offense to the original spriter; this is just a good example.)

It may not seem like a big deal in the moment but small stuff like this adds up fast. Giving sprites non-thought out classifications and random tags can lead to an unfriendly viewing experience. It was a reason why the repo was such a mess and outdated not even a year ago. Something I’ve seen many many people complain about for a long time.

But anyways, I will be the one to add the sprites to the repo. I will most likely create a subfolder for unmounted category and see how that works out. I have no idea how the github will display with there being a subfolder in the map sprite section. But oh well, we’ll find out!

Completely agree, which is why I never seriously considered it. I just idly thought it was a possible option.

Very true!

A subfolder probably wouldn’t work with image previews and it would be really inconvenient to find, easy to overlook. I think you should just make a Dismounted folder.

Mounted - Irregular and Dismounted Cavalry

This would be a good folder to put the Squire animation/map sprite I mentioned, as well as the Spider Rider. Sort of a miscellaneous catch-all for now, until more things get submitted that can better define its identity.

Note: If you have a better idea than Mounted - Irregular and Dismounted Cavalry you can go for it. Something like Mounted - Misc or whatever would work too.

That’s it I’m hiring someone to make a repo website with robust tagging (or asking copywright if he has a backup of his WIP then hiring someone to finish it)
… gotta wait 'til lunar new year hits with my 40 cousins though

You have my complete blessing. In fact, anyone can take over and make a website for the Repo, or duplicate and make their own Repo, or whatever they want. It’s all open-source for a reason.

I just think the sorting would be easier with tagging + search functions
And a website would ideally have a user submissions form that goes into a queue for approval so things don’t get lost in the thread or anything

I think so.
However, with github, it is difficult.
To do this, we need to build it on a separate website or create an application that works with github.

That’s easy enough. @copywright already had the site’s code working to pull from and display on Github. Just need to replicate that. Part of why organization is so important is that when a site does eventually get made, it will be easy to create standardized processes to display Repo content on it.

It’s all interlinked.

This was uncalled for and I’d appreciate it if you kept such comments to yourself in the future.

Obviously if Joe Random had decided that those sprites don’t give off “unmounted cavalier energy”, it would have gone under the radar because Joe Random isn’t the de facto project lead. As it is, there was a grand total of two responses to a comment by a primary maintainer and high-visibility contributor stating that he disagreed with the artist’s classification, to which the re-response was to comment that people were “flipping out” at a “cackling megalomaniac”. I think it’s reasonable enough to push back on that characterization of events.

More importantly, if you have something to say about staff conduct and priorities, I’d rather you say it to me rather than making vague comments into the void.

(don’t derail the thread further with responses to this; my DMs are open if you want to talk about anybody’s individual conduct)

EDIT:

For the record, I think that, maniacal cackling aside, the rest of Klok’s response was excellent for actually being about the art.

Not really a complain, but more of a question;
Recently @Pushwall released/added generic Buff druid animations, so it would be cool if someone did some buff dark mage animations to go with those. Asking here because I feel anyone else would be able to do it much better than me.

Arguably he’s also the one who will get used out of the three most often, must be awkward

Another question: are the generic Lizard portrait, and
The lizard brigand map sprites f2e? Asking because I’ve noticed there are no Lizardzerkers map sprites in the repo.

Why 7743 is creating a remade of FE8 in the FE8 engine? :v

This is a version of “[FE8 Eirika-Variant] [F] Priestess Celica T2-Style by EA6. Magic” with the critical rotating light motion of “[Custom Lance] [M] Halb-Lancer v2 by Jj09. Magic”.

It is to play in Super arena.
Kaitou starts the ura(back) stage (9+9+12) after you complete the main 33 chapters.
When you can go to the back stage, you can go to Arena.
In this Arena, various strong enemies appear.
To enhance its content, interesting battle animations are needed.

Figured I’d put these out here since this seems like the best place if any.
So have my attempt at adding a little bit to the generic soldier portrait by
giving them some extra color to the trimming of the armor.
I made sure to test them and they do work fine.
I got these working for my Master Quest hack.
The blue one is my favorite palette.
