Every Character as fegba

Seems to have been saved as a jpeg at some point. I need it as a png.

I mean, it did read as a PNG file, but upon opening it in Usenti…yeahhh, the artifacts do become more prominent :grimacing: As such, here’s a fixed version that’s been requantized down to sixteen colors and had some stray pixels on the border trimmed off :two_hearts: There’s definitely more to improve upon, at least in terms of where the colors sit on her, but it’s certainly better than before, and I might try to polish it up more later (no guarantees though) :heart_decoration:
Etie {KingCrimson, CherryBaer}

Update: I’ve now managed to simplify it down to eleven colors by merging some that were pretty much the same; of course, the distribution still needs work, and I’m not smart enough to figure out what to do with the five free slots, but hey, it’s been much cleaned up now :sparkling_heart:

As of FE12 the BSFE characters have graduated to being in a mainline game, they should probably stay in. FE12 adds all BSFE characters into the main story (with the exception of Camus) and Michalis is recruitable as a secret character that requires a specific process. I did give their original BSFE stats but could adjust them to their New Mystery main campaign versions. The only fully original playable characters FE12 added were Kris and Katarina.

I can understand not including Gharnef and the other characters as they are from an obscure DLC map that no one plays. They are just bonuses like trial map units. I figured to just add them to pad the smaller roster a bit.

Where’d you get the original file from? Finding a cleaner version of that would be better I feel.

I found it on the Repocord, which yes is banished, but if it was still meant for the repo itself, then it’s just as valid as everything else :heart_decoration: Sadly, I don’t think there’s a cleaner version of it to my knowledge :sweat::mending_heart:

If portraits can be found for them I don’t see why not. The main deciding factor if a character stays. Also if they’re from a Mainline game

We have to appreciate what we can find I know I definitely have to go to a few places to find some portraits that we can use. I am still looking for a portrait for Odin

Oh, okay. Thanks for explaining that to me. I might just lump them in with the fe1 characters. I’ll add them if there’s fegba art for them, I guess.

i have a malice on hand

it’s a hackbox edit of the same one i submitted to in gfe1r years back with a couple of things i just happened to touch up yesterday so good timing

I’ve crunched down several post-Awakening Fire Emblem game portraits and directly ported several SNESFE portraits for my various hacks. However, these are low-quality requantisations with no frames. I’ll attach a few samples: I’ll leave it up to you if you think they’re good enough to use.

FE17:
Vander Celine
Vander, Celine

FE16:
Felix Dorothea
Felix, Dorothea

FE14 (samples - I don’t have any of the missing ones done)
Corrin Azura
Corrin, Azura

FE4

FE3

Cecil, Sirius

How’d you requant and scale-down the Felix and Dorothea portraits? What program and settings did you use?

Thanks Darr, but I think it’d be better to just exclude characters we don’t have gbafe style art for. We have art for 450 or so characters, so there will be plenty of character variance even if no more art is made. The demos in my discord have been using the ? mug as a placeholder, but I could code it to avoid those characters entirely. This way the missing art won’t stick out so much.

I figure artists here would keep making the occasional portrait regardless of this project, but it’s nice to have your art included in something, so those interested can contribute art at their own pace. There’s no huge rush to get a mug for every character by x date

@Huichelaar :
3H portraits are natively 512x512. For those examples, I would add a background colour (GBAFE usually uses a shade of green but anything that doesn’t clash with the portrait will do), resize them down to 96x96 and crop off the bottom 16 pixels in MSPaint before saving and opening them in Usenti. From there I’d requantise to 16 colours.

Sometimes if I feel a character has lost too many important colours or if a different shade of background colour was one of the 16, I’d clean up around the edges to get the background the same colour before requantising or cover an area of background temporarily in a colour I want to keep.

After that, I copy unedited frames to their appropriate location, and paste the image back into Paint temporarily to create a mini - usually a 64x64 crop of their faces resized down to 32x32. Usenti can only resize the entire image, not parts of it, hence dropping into a Paint window.
Paste the mini back into Usenti, save as 4bpp, and the portrait is GBAFE insertable.

Make sure the background is colour 0 so it’s transparent, and watch out for the hackbox. (I often shrug my shoulders and accept hackbox-related cut-off; it isn’t pretty, but I’m usually satisfied with the character being present in some capacity.

@Vesly :
Fair enough.

Mann my girl Dorothea deserve a way better looking portrait then just being a still from the game. Also pre-timeskip Dorothea is better than actual timeskip Dorothea.

Also Felix is missing his ponytail here.

If for some characters a portrait can be found or else they got to be nameless Bob( AKA they won’t show up)

I made this edit of Melia’s Felix halfbody a long time ago for my project.

Felix (Melia)

Be sure to credit her as well.

Woho another three houses character let’s go
As you can tell I’m really excited

Hi, I have a question. Will this include only portraits or also animations? I think it’s already incredible, but if animations are made, wouldn’t they weigh more? Excuse my question and I hope everything goes well with this project.

Only portraits for now
