I’ve had it happen to me too. I believe it happens when you have a regular conversation without background after a CG event. You can fix it by giving the conversation event a background image, but it’s annoying nonetheless.
Different Dimensions Ostian Princess does this for all of its… magnificent recolor portraits. (Although those are only using vanilla FE7 assets, instead of custom-made art.)
