The second character for Spritectober, and it’s another actual FE character, and also one from the same game as Elincia. From what I’ve seen there hasn’t been a Bertram portrait In the repo before to my knowledge, so it is nice to have made this one in particular.

However, since it’s October 10th, I’ve been thinking how I’ll be able to make the rest of the characters I have to do, since I have planned to make at least 12 of these, portrait alts not included. So far I have 3 of these done, and 4 of these might be more quicker to get done since I either already have a W.I.P of them started or I have a very clear idea in how to do them. Well see. Getting 8 more characters done before the month ends up would be really neat.

The portrait will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Other Videogame Franchises section.

Fire Emblem Path of Radiance - Bertram

Full color alt

One of the four riders of Daein that you fight in the game, and arguably the most tragic and sympatethic of them, due to being actually brainwashed by the bad guys and forced into serving them. I was actually doing first the portrait of his real self, which is Renning, the would be heir of Crimea and the uncle of Elincia but after deciding that I would just do his Bertram persona instead, I switched to doing just this one instead. Since this outfit cover most of his body, even most of his face, I didn’t have to develop those parts and so making his portrait was more faster to do. The part where I actually struggled more for his portrait tho was the size of his armor and helmet, since parts of it were a bit big for the hackbox to tolerate, and even still at least for him his armor isn’t that big, in comparison to the Black Knight and Ashnard. His armor pauldrons also don’t show here, but I would argue that he still looks fine without them being visible. If I revisited his portrait, I would try at refining his helmet a bit more and see if I can make it even more accurate to his FE9 portrait, but otherwise this one was actually easy to make.

Bertram: …Gu…guuoo

Elincia: …Eeep…

Bertram: …Gu…oo…OOO…

Bertram: …Perissssh… Perissssh…

Ike: So you’re Bertram, are you? Sorry, but I can’t perish right now.

Bertram: …Me… Kill…

Ike: What?

Bertram: Kill… Me…KILL…M-ME…

Ike: What’s going on? Are you mad?

Bertram: …Gu, gu… GUAAAA!

Ike: Ah!!

Well, here’s the next character made for Spritectober. This one was made around the next day after doing Bertram’s portrait, and it was finished in 3 days, only now I’m able to post it. I hope the next one I make does take the same amount of time as this one did.

If the characters I were doing around this time were more Halloween oriented rather than just villains, this one would be one of the few characters I would still end up doing, thanks to positively brewing with big amounts of insanity and murderous jealousy. It helps that she’s from a horror game too.

The portrait will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Other Videogame Franchises - Capcom section.

Haunting Ground - Daniella

Crazy alt

Bloody tears alt (sensory warning)
Full color alts

One of HG’s antagonists, actually the second out of the four you fight in the game, who, despite being a tragic figure overall, is arguably the most insane stalker in the story, and also might be one of the most crazy female characters in gaming. I think I took the most time with doing her hair when compared to her clothes, and imo it shows. At least I could mix the darkest hair tone with the darkest skin color despite not being yellow or gray and actually being a shade of purple/lavander. Her body pose was going to be another one until I found a better reference for Daniella, and thanks to doing that creating her portrait was quicker to do, mainly because it was more smaller to make (this might also hide the fact that her head is actually a bit bigger than usual). She has two alt portraits, one being her smiling and doning a mad stare that shows her real demeanor, and another one where she has tears of blood, which happens in her final confrontation. I might ended up being lazy for the frames of the crazy alt, but imo it looks good this way. If I end up updating her portrait, I would try to see if I can improve the collar part of her outfit, since right now it feels a bit simple shading-wise, and maybe keep going on the hair shading.

Daniella: Blood, flesh, woman. You vile creature. You lure the man into your filthy body again and again… And you are allowed to do that because you are a precious, precious little princess. Precious… Precious little princess…

Alright, next portrait for Spritectober. Done a bit more quicker than usual, but maybe since it’s due to the main clothes outfit I ended up doing. Still, the more this month’s days are passing the more I realize I have less time to make all the character portraits I want to do properly before the month ends, so for almost all of the portraits I do won’t come with clothes alts at first (expression alts for any of them are fine, since they’re quicker to do). For the ones that I want to give other outfits I may end up doing them after October ends. Hopefully that way the rest of the characters don’t end up looking too rushed.

I do this mainly so since this next character would have a ton of alts, despite only having two outfit alts in mind. It’s the other main character of SW EIII btw.

The portraits will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Non-Videogame Franchises section.

Star Wars Episode III - Anakin Skywalker

Angry alt

Sith eyes alt

Mirrored portrait alts

Full color alts

The second main character of SW Episode 3, at the point where he truly went to the dark side and became the dreaded Darth Vader. His outfit was pretty much easier to do than Obi-Wan’s, in no small part thanks to using darker colors, and thus not needing too much tones to look fine. Maybe his hair was more trickier to make due to being longer and not combed, but I’d say it turned out fine, even without some hair shine that would’ve made the design more complex to do. I think I would’ve liked it if his face scar was more visible at both sides, but I hope it is noticeable. Since at the moment I’ll postpone two alts for him, I at least gave him angry and Sith eyes alts, for when he’s either angry or turned into the dark side. Otherwise, this one came out decent at the end.

Anakin: I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security for my new empire!

Obi-Wan: Your new empire?

Anakin: Don’t make me kill you.

Obi-Wan: Anakin, my allegiance is to the republic, to democracy!!

Anakin: If you’re not with me, then you’re my enemy.

Obi-Wan: Only a Sith deals in absolutes. I will do what I must.

Anakin: You will try. Old Friend.

Here’s the next spritectober portrait, a character that’s also a scarred (physically and mentally) fallen hero, just like with the previous character, Anakin. It’s also the second Capcom villain rep here. I kind of didn’t have as much motivation to make this one as with Anakin, mainly since I was a bit busy the two previous days, and I’ll also postpone additional alt portraits for this one, but in the end I think it still came out well enough, at least for someone like me. With this one I’m also just halfway through making all of the characters I want to make for this month, so it’ll be lucky to get them all done before it ends, but as long as it doesn’t actually end up being too complicated, the next portrait will be done a lot quicker than most of the others ones here, so there’s a chance I’ll be able to finish them all.

The portrait will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Other Videogame Franchises - Capcom section.

Resident Evil 4 - Jack Krauser

Full color alt

The RE4 villain that fits the part of being an evil counterpart to Leon, with his original design. I would say that out of all the characters in this game, he’s the one that changes the most in the remake, going from a cold blooded assasin who was a good friend to the MC before turning to jealousy and dissillusionment, to being a more sadistic and hammier soldier that was a cruel mentor in the past, but deeply affected by a military operation gone wrong. In comparison to Leon, his portrait was more difficult to make. Starting with the color palette, despite not really having very colorful clothes, he actually has many colors in his main outfit that are more trickier to implement all at once (blonde hair, red beret, blue eyes, black shirt, green gear straps, and white hooks), so I had to be careful over what colors I had to leave in the main portrait, with the main loss being the green color. And the body ended up being one of my bigger ones, mainly from the right shoulder. Thankfully it looks alright here, and the face scars also turned out pretty well. If I revisit his portrait, I’ll do more touch ups to his hair and body, alongside bringing in more alt portraits.

Leon: What are you intending to do, restoring Umbrella?
Krauser: To bring order and balance to this insane world of ours.
Leon: A psycho like you can’t bring order or balance.
Krauser: You don’t seriously think a conservative mind can chart a new course for the world, do you?

It’s a bit embarrasing that it took me the same amount of time to make this character as the others I did before despite not having to work on his body due to being taken from a character I already did, and moreover having an easier outfit to make. Maybe that’s because I’m getting a bit busy with things lately. Hopefully I’m still able to get everyone done before the month ends (four left to be done currently).

Other than that, this is the third and last Capcom rep for the Spritectober month, and if you know about his species/powers, you could guess how the rest of the remaining characters will look.

The portrait will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Other Videogame Franchises - Capcom section.

Devil May Cry 3 - Vergil

Brushed down hair/ Dante’s hair alt

Full color alts

Dante’s stoic and more serious twin brother. His body is the same as Dante’s, both due to being a bit lazy and make it quicker, and also so he matches Dante’s appearance and make it clear they’re twins, just like how FE normally does it with twin characters (reused character portraits non-withstanding). That also makes it so that an alt with his hair down is very quick to do. When making his outfit it ocurred to me that I did actually run out of colors for his undershirt, so I did end up having to make that part use other colors, but other than that, it was more simpler to make than Dante’s outfit despite his having a more workable color palette. If I revisit him, maybe I’ll improve that part, alongside making an alt without his coat, and then anything else I may have in mind.

Here’s also some updated Dante portraits to match Vergil. The previous ones will still remain for anyone that wants a tall Dante.

Rebellion (Awakened) alt

Full color alts

Dante: You sure know how to throw a party! No food, no drinks, and the only babe just left.
Vergil: My sincerest apology brother. I was so eager to see you, I couldn’t concentrate on preparations for the bash.
Dante: Whatever, at any rate, it’s been a whole last year since we last met. How about a kiss from your little brother? Or better yet, how about a kiss from this! (Points his gun to Vergil)

Dante: So this is what they call a heartwarming family reunion, eh?
Vergil: … You got that right.

Well, looks like I was able to get this one today instead of taking a bit longer to make. Maybe the reason is because his cape covers most of his outfit, so therefore it ends up being more simpler to do, and it might also help the fact that I didn’t have planned to do any alt for him that isn’t just a color alt, so he’s one of the quicker portraits I’ve done this month. We’ll still see if I manage to get the other characters done before the month ends tho, only three left now. It’ll be a bit ironic if the next one I do ends up being harder to sprite than this one, even or because of its design.

Anyways, a spoiler alert, the next characters after this one are also going to be Marvel reps like this one, but they’ll be from a different game too.

The portraits will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Other Videogame Franchises - Marvel section.

X-Men Legends 2 - Ultimate Apocalypse

Full color alt

The Ultimate version of one of X-Men’s major villains, and at least the main one in some X-Men games, including the XML2 entry, where he has this appearance. Might be my favorite outfit for this character imo. Doing his outfit wasn’t really too complicated to do, maybe since It has to do with his cape covering the upper part of his body minus starting from the neck. Really, I think the only complicated part was the head, where I had to apply his weird helmet that’s applied to his own head, and having some more different eyes and mouth compared to normal FE character mugs. If I revisit him, maybe I’ll only make touch ups to his shading at some parts of his appearance, like his head and his cape. Otherwise, this one turned out pretty good.

Apocalypse: You fools. You should be thanking me, not pursuing me. I’m the one who showed you the X-Men and Brotherhood could work together. You’re stronger for it.

Well, here’s the next characters for Spritectober, and one of those is one that I took more time to do compared to the others, up to the point that its the one that has the most amount of alts here. That’s because unlike all of the other characters this one was finished long before the month of October came around. Actually, its portrait was being made ever since a year ago, and I was waiting for the appropiate time to come to post its portraits. Honestly, with all the alts I made of this character, it ends up being a similar portrait mega post like with the Lucario portraits I uploaded a few months ago, although despite it isn’t quite as big as Lucario’s mega post. And in comparison, the other character doesn’t have as much alts, due to not only being made recently, but also due to not having as much appearances as the other one. As so, you’re already warned that this is going to be a big post.

With that, I actually have 9 characters done so I could make just one more and that would be 10 for this month, but I’ll see if I’m able to do 2 more instead of just one, mainly if you don’t count Venom as a character made in October.

The portraits will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Other Videogame Franchises - Marvel section.

Ultimate Spider-Man - Ultimate Venom

White symbol Alt

The original Ultimate version of one of Spider-Man’s most popular villains. This is one of, if not, my most favorite look for Venom, although in terms of characterization, I do prefer its main universe ond a lot of more (that also goes for almost everyone in the original Ultimate universe tho). It speaks how much I like this design to the point that I ended up making a lot of alts of this character with different eye shapes, two being his only USM game eyes, and the rest being others it had in the comics. One of these is the WOTS where it absorbed the Carnage symbiote and instead of gaining the white symbol like in the game, it instead replaced its big white eyes with small red ones, which despite of deviating even more of the og design, I still decided to do it.
This portrait is based more on its USM design instead of the comics one, due to being less amorphous and having a more humanoid shape to it, being the contrary to the Ult. Spider-Man portrait I did before, funny enough. Still tho, due to me wanting to make it very big and bulky, it exceeds the hackbox by just a bit in the lower sides, but it shouldn’t be too noticeable, especially with it having a purple-shaded tone of black as its main color.

Due to this character having a ton of character alts, all with more description too, they’re going to be located here in details for reading sakes.

Tendrils/out of control alts

The alts this character has are the aforementioned eyes ones (the WOTS one also changes the teeth tones by a bit), one where it has its iconic white spider symbol (even the WOTS alt has it. You could try at giving it the white eyes so it resembles main Venom’s appearance with Mac Gargan as its host), one where it has its long tongue out, and one where it has its head looking upwards, with its mouth wide open. You could use this one to make sort of an unmasked variant of its host and put whoever you want in there (mainly a male one, but almost anyone goes), only that for it work properly you would have to balance the colors of whoever is in there with the symbiote’s, who has around 9 colors, 11 with the white eyes. You could replace the teeth if your character either has the normal skin tones or has any white/light yellow tones in the head, and if they have any red then it’s much easier mixing them. I also recommend not showing any clothes the character had, unless they’re like ones that are already shared in the head, like skin and hair tones, or eyes tones if they have any.
One alt that I had planned to do before was one where Venom has tendrils and teeth around its body, but I didn’t end up making it due to it being too big to the point most of it wouldn’t fit in, although I could still try making one where at least the extra teeth show up, with the tendrils not being as big as they’re supposed to be.
This character also has sort of an alt variant, which is basically an edited and beefed up symbiote Spidey portrait, that’s based on a brief moment where Ult. Venom’s main host (Eddie Brock Jr., who else?) looked like this after joining with the suit for the first time and had it in control for a few seconds. An example where you could use this one would be reenacting the moments where Eddie and Venom would impersonate Spider-Man to ruin his reputation, like how they did in the original continuity and the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. Overall, I’m a big fan of this character as it shows, and how this portrait turned out in the end.

Ultimate Spider-Man - Ultimate Carnage

White Teeth/USM 2005 game alt

Tendrils alts

The Ultimate version of the main red, psychotic symbiote, and for most of the times, more evil counterpart of Venom. I do like its first overall design more than the last one it got in the comics, mainly since it still looked similar to the original one, while at the same time having its own differences to easily distinguish it (plus, red and yellow looke pretty good when combined here).
But in contrast to Venom, who has a more simpler design aside from being very big and bulky (even if you were basing it off the original ultimate comic design), Carnage has a more trickier portrait due to being designed as even more unstable than Venom, and thus has sort of a constantly moving, lava/blood like body. Only in some of its appearances in games is where it’s also possible to see its body without the appendages/tendrils covering most of its upper part, which end up being more prominent in it than with Venom. One of those being in the defunct online game “Spider-Man Unlimited” (fun fact: only Ult. Carnage appeared in that game while Ult. Venom didn’t. A shame imo), which is where I took as a reference for most of its body, including its main eyes.
Tbh despite the tendrils making its design more trickier and less consistent to draw, it does help at distinguishing it more from Venom since otherwise it ends up looking a bit bland sometimes (maybe that’s why only Carnage has them permanently in contrast to Venom in the USM game), and thanks to it being smaller than Venom, I was able to make an alt of it with them in its portrait.
If it feels a bit smaller than Spider-Man, that’s because I lowered its head so that it’s looking down, although it isn’t as exaggerated as it is in some of its appearances.
I didn’t make mouth frames for its actual mouth, since not only was it a bit too big to fit in, but I haven’t really found any reference for Ultimate Carnage of it moving its mouth to be able to make it, unlike with Venom, so what I did instead was make the eyes move when it talks, and for the eye frames its chest glows, to sort of capture that yellow part of its chest glowing in and out.
All in all, despite having a more trickier design than Venom, the truth is that I actually managed to get this done pretty fast, and quicker than even them, which is due to actually having done this type of design (mess of red, black and yellow, dark face, big mouth, tendrils and glowing chest) as an alt outfit for some characters I did a while ago of them wearing a symbiote, which is also the same for Venom, but applies even more for Carnage here. Thanks to that I managed to be able to complete Carnage’s portraits here.

I wanna shit talk the both of them for having low splice utility. You hear that, Venom? You have low splice utility you bald bubble.

I would be careful if I was you. Wouldn’t want to get eaten by them, or physically nosferatu-ed by Carnage. Maybe you could use them instead to make symbiote infected characters, unless that isn’t your preference. If so, I respect it.

Also, if you thought they have low splice utility, then the next one I make, and the last one for Halloween most probably, will have even lower splice utility (unless you’re able to use the gems collar since that one has them. Might be your only clue for the next one unless you remember which is the first character I released for October).

Carnage’s random bitz do look more usable than Venom’s… silhouette-with-a-mouth.

Oooh, I just noticed what you did with Carnage’s blinking frames. That’s an inspired touch.

I lied, this one barely has his gems collar show up.

Anyways, here’s the last October portrait I ended up making for Halloween. As of writing this now, it’s October 31st, although from what I know it’s already November 1st in some countries like Australia, so for any of you that live here, my apologies, here’s a new character portrait that was meant for the month of October.

As soon as you see the portrait, you’ll already guess why this one ended up being the last character I did: it’s the one that I struggled with the most, up to the point that he’s the only one that still uses the extend mug patch in his main portrait (not counting some Venom alts where he has a largue tongue) due to one of his horns being very long. He’ll most probably have his portrait updated if I ever get the chance to tbh.

At the very least I managed to get it done before October ended here for me. Here’s a compilation of all the sprites I ended up doing for this year’s Spritectober.

As a fun detail, you might notice that for each subsequent character portrait I ended up doing, they became less human than the previous one. The exception being Metal Sonic due to being the first one I made, although at least I started and ended this month’s sprites with a Sonic character each, interesting enough. In hindsight, it might’ve also helped that the more monstrous ones were made later, thanks to having less normal designs that could and did end up being more difficult to draw than more human characters.

As for making more portraits tho, I think I might take a short break for the next month, mainly since I’ll probably get my wisdom tooth removed in the first week, and I’ll have to rest after that. As such, next month is going to be less filled with new portraits than this one. Maybe some of them will be ones that I already did, but we’ll see.

The portraits will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Other Videogame Franchises section.

Shadow The Hedgehog (2005) - Black Doom

Full color alt

The main villain of Shadow The Hedgehog (2005) and the new Shadow section of SXSG. His color palette was based on how he looked in the latter game, while most of his pose was based on one from the first game he appeared. He ended up being pretty difficult to make, due to his head and clothing being a bit too big to fit in a portrait properly. To wit, his right horn ends up using the extra two sections usable for the extend mug patch, so that had an influence at making the right side of his clothing be less big as a result. He does have a mouth that can move as shown in SXSG, but for the moment I decided to not do his mouth frames yet due to having to figure out how to do them. I’m also not too satisfied with his armor details, so they’ll definitely be changed later. Overall, doing eye frames for three eyes was the least difficult thing in this portrait tbh, and he’ll get a bigger portrait glow up if I end up improving him.

Black Doom: The time has come, Shadow.
Shadow: Agreed. Time to sever this bond between us forever.
Black Doom: Embrace your fate.

That third eye could be useful for something, I think… and there’s a pauldron that could be used as a pauldron. And he is At All Clothed, tbh, that’s just always a free pass to Has Some Utility Somewhere.

He doesn’t need mouth frames. He’s an alien. But yeah I already have ideas for that third eye.

Well, today it’s November 8th, and to more or less start the month, here’s a new portrait I made. This might be one of the easier ones I did so far. And it’s also one that’s part of the same main franchise as the Persona games.

I did end up making portraits of Persona characters in the past, but at some point I was also looking at if I ended up doing portraits of other Atlus reps, mainly the Megami Tensei games. The ones that would be easier to make, if we’re talking about demons/personas, would obviously be the human ones, but I guess starting with one of the most well known ones that isn’t one was actually a good place to start.

Depending on how I end up feeling after, next week I might not have any new portraits to show since in the next monday I’ll finally get my wisdom tooth extracted and be recovering from that, so we’ll see what happens.

The portraits will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Other Videogame Franchises section.

Shin Megami Tensei - Jack Frost

Greeting hand alt

One of, if not, the most iconic demon in the SMT franchise, who is one of the earliest ones you can get in all games, while at the same time not being one of the very first ones you recruit. His design and greeting hand alt are taken from his SMTV appearance since I did want to make this portrait less simple to do, while his overall pose is inspired from his artwork made by Kazuma Kaneko initially for the Devil Children Card Game, which was reused in SMT NINE, SMT Dx2 and Persona 4 . I only really had problems with the size of his hat and make sure it didn’t get out of the hackbox. As a result he ends up being quite small, but I don’t think it’s too bothersome since these characters are indeed very small in most games they appear in. Also this one doesn’t come with full color alts since I didn’t think he would need one due to his simple design, so as a result the white borders of his clothing share the same colors as his skin tones. If I revisit his portrait, maybe I’ll change his hat shading and improve his greeting hand alt, but otherwise this one was simple to make.

Well, guess I’m still able to do some portrait work since my wisdom tooth extraction has been postponed to next week’s thursday, so here’s some more portraits.

Starting off, here’s some extra variants of the Jack Frost portrait I did last week, like one that’s inspired by one of his artworks, and color variants of all of these in the style of FE6-7.

And right below here is the actual new portrait for today. Ever since two months ago I shown my liking towards Marvel characters when I posted three main character portraits of that franchise, and today I’ll also post another Marvel character. This one was actually being worked at the same time as Ult. Wolverine and Magneto’s portraits due to liking his design and character, and I was going to have it released for a later time, but thanks to him being released recently this month as a new Marvel Rivals character for the new season, I ended up seizing the moment and released his portraits today. They’re actually based on his comics classic outfit instead of his Marvel Rivals one tho, mind you, although even with that he’s one of the characters that ends up having an outfit that’s still similar to his normal one, at least from the above part.

Yes, I did play Marvel Rivals. Well, my younger brother actually is the one that plays it the most, but I did try it a few times and ended up liking it. Kind of slightly reminds me of the PVZ hero shooters I played a long time ago. There might not be any other game that I played more than those, other than Smash Ultimate and Minecraft. Who knows, maybe I’ll also do Rogue’s portrait when she eventually arrives in the game.

The portraits will be located above in the main post, under the F2E - Non-Videogame Franchises section.

X-Men - Gambit

The charming Cajun thief mutant from the X-Men franchise. His design and overall pose is mainly based on His X-Men 97 OA (Official Artwork), although I made this portrait as it being based more on his usual comic book outfit, which, in contrast to his hair that sometimes changes in style and color, is usually kept the same. But in comparison to most X-Men (and Marvel) characters from before the 90’s, his color palette is the trickiest part to manage, since I had to fit in tones of his maroon hair, red eyes, black headgear, the blue part of his attire, and his brown coat that thankfully covers the magenta and white accent parts of his outfit. Even with all that tho, he’s left with one extra spare color that I end up using for his hand holding a card alt to add more to his character. If I end up revisiting his portrait I may shade his hair a bit differently so that it looks a bit more like usual FE character hair, and add more details to his coat, but otherwise I like how his portrait turned out in the end.

Now he may not have too much alts, but here’s a DropBox link anyways where you can get all of his portraits at once.
