What 'bad' units do you like using in FE?

Rebecca is good! Depending on how you train her, she can be really fast and dodges a lot of attacks. She weak in the beginning but if you give her leftover enemies, she can be very fast. Mostly if shes right beside Wil.

Give her a chance to prove herself. I promise you won’t regret it!

Rebecca is especially good in Hector (normal) mode with the Pegasus appearing early. She needs a bit of strength but can end up better than Louise.

FE8 Amelia for 2 simple reasons:
1- i think she’s cute
2- because fuck mekkah, i’m not a coward. General amelia is a litteral little girl in a MECH, how AWESOME is that? lmao. Also, she became a monster in my first run, she was barely damaged by anything and destroyed anything in her way. Granted, generals are slow and all, but utility is overrated anyways

I also do another “fuck Mekkah” thing: Forde. And paired with either Vanessa or Eirika to boot. Man’s a Myrmidon on a horse. And can use lances.

Haven’t played it yet, but when I get to FE6 I am going to actually use Roy bc character design > utility

Roy’s our boy

Also in FE5 I loved to use Fergus but whelp apparently he’s as much of a beast as I thought he was

Dunno if this counts, but my first run of FE9 I let all my units die so i used Geoffrey, Haar, Largo, and Calil for the last few chapters. Geoffrey and calil died anyways, but largo was my favorite of those. (I knew he had bad stats, really didn’t care about strategy at that point and just wanted to finish the game)

EDIT: also probs doesn’t count, but Brom in FE10. He can get bad rolls, but in most my playthroughs he wound up being like a second gatrie.

It’s cool to discover new units when replaying a Fire Emblem game. This time I decided to use Saul for once (and he really is better than Ellen by miles imo). But to get on topic I also decided to take Dorothy with me since they have supports and all. And their supports grow pretty fast even if I did grind a little bit these two might be some of the characters you can support by accident and you would notice it.

So yeah I add her to my list.

ooh here’s a good one!
generic fates units, I love kidnapping!
I trained a cav named Christof, gave him heavy blade and one pair of boots
then I trained a wyvern rider named Hendrik who I later reclassed to Vanguard, gave paragon, and two pairs of boots.

The generic units are really cool to me, sure they’re horrible, but they’re the good kind of horrible, funny horrible!

I’d like it if they gave them at least a 10-15% boost on all stats so they can actually grow more decent. Maybe even add the chance that two stats get 20% and one stat 30%. This wouldn’t make them much better but at least more capable in the long run.

well they aren’t bad per say… this doesn’t account for class growth modifiers either, this is just the personal generic growths.

they’re definitely worse than almost every unit but capture an enemy berserker and you have yourselves a gamer right there with their bases.

I believe an image of Dorcas doubling the Fire Dragon and S-Rank Hector Swords should say all for my tastes, but as a small selection of my favorites:

  • Neimi remains my all time favorite FE character, and I’m on a warpath to use every female Archer in GBA FEs; my current FE6 Ironman has me using Dorothy and she’s outperforming half the goddamn army rn
  • Dorcas and Lot are the best two Fighters in GBA and you cannot change my mind
  • GBA Archers in general hold a soft spot for me.
  • I cannot explain why I like Ogier but I do.
  • Beruka is also the best modern FE character don’t @ me, shame she’s so horrendously outclassed by Camilla in every possible way

…Also this Dorcas was part of a Draft run between 4 folks in FE7. Fuckin love fighters.

Wait Generics have personal growths? I always thought they only use class growth.
What about Shadow Dragon Generics?

Not sure about shadow dragon’s generics but fates generics have their own growths depending on their base class, if it were only class growths their growths would be in the 5-15% range

I checked on SF and it looks like Shadow Dragon didn’t do this. But if I remember correctly some named characters don’t even have personal growth bonuses on every single stat. I guess they can benefit a lot from dynamic Growth Rates but the way to make their growths good takes so much time it’d be more efficient to trade them out for better replacement units (or new named characters).

I do like these kind of units too but never really used many of them so far. But I started to use Niles and Orochi more often to hunt them (plus Bosses like Haikata of course) and wanna do a run with them in the future. Last week I captured a Swordmaster with Locktouch and Lunge, as well as a Paladin with Armored Blow (both from Conquest).

I remember one of my first generics in Shadow Dragon was a Dark Mage which is a class that (unless you force to get Etzel) no character in the game will have unless you reclass them. Kinda made him unique. I also got a female Myrmidon (that I still have but never trained) and a knight with higher defense than Draug but sadly he died.

While not nessecarily bad (actually good) I also love to use Bond-Units.
What I like about these units is that they kinda feel like unique characters that only you will have to play with. (Technically any unit captured in Fates is obtainable for everyone - But getting the exact same ones is pretty unlikely and some people to this day probably don’t know about these mechanics at all.) Characters with written Arcs are cool and all but the story of these units is written purely by gameplay and your headcanon.

If they decide to bring generics (and Bond Units) back (which could’ve actually solve the problem of too less/situational recruitment options in the case of Three Houses) I’d like them to do it in a similar way fates did then. Adding a prison or simple make them hireable. (You can hide units like Farina, Hugh and Co in this shop too now that I think about it… Modernize this archetype IntSys!!!)

This whole post could actually start a new thread about Generic Units, haha…
I’ll stop to write about this topic here now. But I do think Generics, while bad units, are also fun to use. If anything they’re at least another way to make your playthrough more personal.

I really, really, REALLY love Callion. Even though you’re better off trading the Paragon Sword off of him I always like to keep in on him for a while and just get him snowballing, and then when Fred comes around I just have the funny squad started. Also Marty is very fun to use.

FE6

Are Noah and Treck bad units? Honestly I don’t know but they’re worse than Alance just because of avail so I’m putting 'em here. Oojay is also another unit I really like to use, he’s just kinda funny unit.

FE7

Wil.

Tellius

Makalov my beloved.

Shadow Dragon

I always have a soft spot for good ol’ big Mac and Dolph.

FE12

Reiden. Idk I just like the Sable Knights.

Wait he’s a bad unit? He was great in my play through

Yes, Horton is pretty bad, honestly both of this games Myrmidons are, but that can mainly be attributed to the fact that they’re unpromoted infantry units in Dlatmol

For all the games I’ve played

3: Sheena
6: Sophia (more than any other unit I’ve ever used, it actually feels like you’ve overcome something by making her good.)
7: Nino, I guess? Haven’t played 7 much at all.
8: Tie between the two late trainees.
9: Rolf or Nephenee
10: Astrid (don’t know why, because she’s barely even the same character as PoR, but I can’t help but use her… Lyre run soon™️)
11: Maria
12: Yubello
