(Theoretical) Soldier emblem

So, I’m sure we all know of the lovely hack called ‘Myrm Emblem’ by now. It’s quite cool

So I, as one who quite enjoys playable soldiers, both in mainline and various romhacks, was curious about a ‘Soldier Emblem’ following similar style, All soldiers, simplistic story, gameplay focus.

Just one issue… The amount of playable soldiers in the Fe series… Is quite low

Going off purely ‘Soldiers’ we have: Nephenee (Fe9), Aran (FE 10) Danved/Devdan(FE 9/10), Lukas, Forsyth (FE2/15), And technically Tobin, Grey, Kliff, and Atlas if they go soldier… which is only 5(9) people
If we Extend to the Kaga saga: That also gives is Lionel the Spear soldier from TRS for 6(10)
If we Broaden the Term to ‘Lance infantry’ then we get a few more: Oboro, Shiro, Haitaka, Amelia, Ephraim, Mozu, Donnel, Dimitri, Daichi, and Timerra, Alongside Gatekeeper from FEW:3H

If we also go specifically for ‘Soldier’ and not caring about them using Lances, we can also add in Ezekiel from TRS, and Daoud from berwick saga, both Axe Soldiers

In total that’s 19 Soldiers, 23 if we include the villagers (I’m not gonna)

That begs the question, should it be a short hack of 8-12 or so chapters with these soldiers across the series, or is there room for more. Such as cameos of other playable soldiers from other peoples hacks, if they feel so inclined for this foolish endeavor. It’s something I’d like to try after I’m done with my first hack. (which I’ll hopefully post in a week or two with current progress)

What say you FEU users? Know any soldiers I’m missing, or do you have your own playable soldiers you want to throw into the pile? Assuming something eventually becomes of this idea.

I’d broaden it to lance infantry, yeah, but would exclude the villagers, since Amelia already fills that training project role. That cast size of 11 would indeed work for a 5-10 chapter hack (or even a 1 chapter hack, if you can find a niche for Amelia).

If you’re interested in other [Class] Emblem projects, Cav Emblem is a telephone hack that’s currently in production!

throw in some fan-made Soldiers with the ask ofc of the makers I’d gladly add mine to this and give you their growths if ik what the total is that this hack would be going for OR you could also add some of the cavs/paladins BUT use the ones that can dismount from their horse only because then they basically becomes a solider.

I was considering it, but dismounted cavs are just that, dismounted versions of a class, not genuine lance infantry, that and quite a few cavs when dismounted cant use spears anymore

By my count, there’s…

  • 3 playable Valentia-type Soldiers, including prepromotes (Lukas, Forsyth, Valbar)
  • 4 playable Tellius/Elyos-type Soldiers, including prepromotes (Nephenee, Devdan/Danved, Aran, Mauvier)
  • 4 playable Hoshidan Spear Fighters, counting prepromotes and capturable bosses (Oboro, Shiro, Haitaka, Daichi)
  • 4 Villagers who can promote into Valentian-style Soldiers (Gray, Tobin, Kliff, Atlas)
  • 4 Mercenaries who can Dread Fighter loop into Valentian-style Soldiers (Saber, Kamui, Jesse, Deen)
  • 3 Fates characters who can Heart Seal into Spear Fighter (Hinoka, Takumi, Kiragi)
  • 2 3DS-style lance infantry Villagers (Donnel, Mozu)
  • 1 other lance infantry trainee who, via her Super Trainee class line, can become essentially a Soldier and then Halberdier (Amelia)
  • 6 Fódlan characters with Soldier in their default class progression sequences (Ferdinand, Sylvain, Ingrid, Lorenz, Leonie, Gatekeeper)
  • 2 Lords whose personal classes are lance infantry (Ephraim, Dimitri)
  • 1 Elyos royal whose personal class is lance infantry (Timerra)
  • 2 Lord-type story units from Heroes who are infantry lancefighters in their “default” versions (Sharena, Fjorm)

So, if you want to stretch what constitutes a “Soldier” to the absolute limit of what at least I personally consider reasonable, you end up with 36 qualifying playable characters from across the series, which is about the same size as Sacred Stones and Gaiden/SoV’s playable casts, so it’s definitely workable for a full-length campaign. Hell, you could even squeeze a 37th out of playing along with the bit that Devdan and Danved are separate people.

But yeah, Soldiers and analogous classes really don’t have much playable representation, relatively speaking. Even my own list here is me being absolutely as generous as I could justify to myself.

Hey there, Renoud of Myrm Emblem fame here.

I thought about this for a bit and I’ve made a small list about the possible playable soldiers/infantry lance users that could be used:

  • So first you got Lukas and Forsyth, and maybe the male playable villagers as you mentioned (possibly even Valbar since he technically comes from the soldier line?)

  • Amelia and Ephraim are also easy options.

  • Tellius has Nephenee, Aran and Danved/Devdan, if you wanna be extra funny or original then you can even make them separate characters.

  • Awakening has Donnel, another easy option.

  • Fates has a lot of options with Mozu, Oboro, Shiro, Haitaka and Daichi. You could even add a capturable generic lancer for an obscure funny pick lmao.

  • 3H and Engage got Dimitri and Timerra respectively, 2 popular characters.

  • Next TRS, as you mentioned there’s Lionel, but you also have Ezekiel, who while not a lance user, he’s an axe soldier so I’d say he’s worth considering if you want some weapon variety.

  • Berwick Saga has another axe soldier in Daoud, again, also worth considering if you want weapon variety or a Berwick rep.

  • And finally the Vestaria Saga games, VS2 has Mia and Emma, which actually aren’t soldiers, but both are infantry lance users. Mia is a lance villager with high growths similar to Donnel and Emma is a maid who wields a literal mop that can stun enemies lmao. Both fun characters.

Personally I love these kinds of projects, and I’d be down to help you however I can with it. I think it sounds very fun :+1:

ah, i guess Mozu and Donnel do count, even if they typically dont stay as a lance infantry

forgot about Danved/Devdan

I did want to keep to ‘Lance infantry’, but if we are going ‘Soldier’ we can include Daoud and Ezekiel, VS2 is out of my knowledge range currently but Mia and Emma sound funny

not sure i want to include the 3H people since they are a lot more freeform, but Timerra sounds fun

Ive considered and edited the main post

Might add Sylvain to the list but uncertain

Well, it seems the list of playables is pretty much cemented. So here’s my best shot at listing all of the soldier bosses (similar to how Myrm Emblem uses Myrmidon-line bosses). This does not include recruitable bosses.

FE2/15
  • Zofian Army (Soldier; Southern Outpost),
  • Zofian Army (Soldier; Southern Zofia 1)
  • Desaix
  • Zackson
  • Magnus
  • Unknown (Soldier; Wealth Before Health; has a 9.75% chance to spawn)
FE9
  • Emil
  • Kotaff
  • Hafedd
FE10
  • Jarod
  • Rommit
  • Roark
  • Levail
FE13
  • Risen Chief (Soldier; A Strangled Peace)
  • Risen Chief (Soldier; Death’s Embrace)
FE16
  • Church Soldier (Soldier; Familiar Scenery - Practice Battle)
TRS
  • Ruffian (Sergeant; Holmes the Hero)
  • Bismark
  • Pike
  • Zeek (In the Darkness…)
BWS
  • Benner
  • Herakut
  • Danfar
  • Murin

Squeezing the definition of a boss, I managed to get 24 bosses in total. If you include recruitable units and FE14 capture bosses, you should have more than enough for a full-length campaign.

Vestaria is beyond my realm of expertise.

Note that, of these bosses, only 17 are non-generic, and only 10 of those non-generics are from mainline FE. If you go for a length of 10 chapters, you’d have one mainline FE soldier bossman per map. I’d recommend using Jarod as the overarching villain, since he’s already an arc boss in FE10.

And, for what it’s worth, I think a small cast size can be a blessing, especially for a first project and for a hack where everyone is in the same class line (and thus harder to make distinct).

What about the gatekeeper lol

hes included lamo, I factored him from FEW:3H

always could use some fan made soldiers in the mix but if this is purely cannon then id look at FEH and see who gets put into lance infantry aswell to see if you can nab some folks who can appear as it there also the brithright units would count as soldiers anyway cuz their the soldier counterpart to the class like how samurai is the counterpart to myrm.

This is a list of all the lance infantry units in Heroes even with Gatekeeper not being on this list his basically a solider in three houses so he’d still count.

For example Geese instead of using his normal binding blade portrait you make his “A life at sea” attire into his portrait

this would add like 24 more units not counting the folks already mentioned or duplicates of

That whole list is 41 units.

Even further we can include Eliwood because in “Roy: Blazing Bachelors” Eliwood is fighting beside Roy, Infantry and wielding a lance in no armor just like a solider.

Happy to see someone else working on a similar project, and it’d be interesting to see how the challenges provided by your limited roster will impact the hack compared to Cav Emblem’s team. Maybe one day we’ll have one for every base class, who knows.
