Talk-Radio | Hatsuru☆Engages!

There’s a guy riding what seems to be like an ostrich/horseclaw/chocobo, so that’s fun. Vehicles/dismount maybe?

I don’t particularly care for Fodlan. But in an age of remakes, reboots and direct sequels at least this appears to not be directly related to 3H or Hopes? We’ll see. I’d be happy if we had no Avatar this time either, but recent FE hasn’t really been my style. I only have passing knowledge of everything post-3DS.

To be honest, it seems silly, but whether or not I bother to engage with the game further will depend almost entirely on how many non-binary characters there are. I’m tired of the 5th or so womanly guy who doesn’t really have much to him besides being meek, liking the arts, and telling people he’s a guy. It was refreshing when I was 10, but I’m nearing 30 now.

I want something with a bit of awareness and to stop horking out the same FE clichés ad nauseum. Maybe the hacks here have spoilt me…?

It definitely shares a lot of 3H’s foundational mechanics (UI, combat arts, gambits, etc)

The modified Bluttgang that Dietrich has looks cool. Theodora’s design is reminiscent of Edelgard’s in a way. I wonder if its like an Isekai alternate world moment where its two diametrically opposed characters eventually FIGHT each other for their version of what the continent/country should be

I saw the new fire emblem game, was like “cool funky animal rider” and “I don’t like how the art style looks”.

I am a bit more optimistic towards this entry, mainly since it isn’t either a remake nor an anniversary game, and while it looks like a sequel, at most it feels like a very distant sequel to 3H. I mean, there were no characters from that game besides Sothis. And I’m my humblest opinion, the guy that looks like the MC (Cai) doesn’t really feel nor look like an avatar, they would’ve already revealed that if he was. Overall, it also looks like it has quite a good bit of effort put into it to be more distinct than previous FE (I especially loved that part of the myrm being able to teleport. Waiting for the day someone puts blaze arts in FE romhacks), and has enough things that haven’t been really seen in FE before.

Idk, maybe I haven’t been ironically spoiled by FE romhacks as some other people had, maybe I’m not someone to really have a strong grudge/hatred against someone/something (I’m very picky about what I really dislike), maybe I’m not someone that’s very critical of things (we already have plenty of those people, I’m not going to suddenly change to be like the others), maybe 22 years still counts as being young and thus haven’t been crushed by life (does having constant back pains count as that?), or maybe, that’s just who I am. So I’m still looking forward to that.

Yeah, the discourse to the new FE game will not look pretty, even I can tell that. But at this point, not only its something that’s pretty much expected, but tbh, it’s kind of fitting that a franchise that normally revolves around wars and revolts would have its own discourse in real life, don’t you think?

It reminds me more of Gangrel, or the other Plegians.

See’s connections to Foldan
Day ruined.

But if the gameplay is as good as Engage’s then I’ll tolerate it.

Its very fitting!

Granted, i’m not a fan of the 3D maps and the walking portions, but it is good to see the game got the necessary upgrades to 3H and Engage visually.

I would have hoped we had Sigurd with Alear hair but that can wait for later.

Im happy that we got another FE though

That reminds me of something. This is our first canon Black FE protagonist, right? Cai’s got locs, too, that’s surprising considering that FE usually shies away from depicting its dark-skinned characters as having anything but straight hair.

… Soooooo, why does this topic have the rebalance tag?

Hmmm is this thread a rebalance of community discussion

I share a lot of your enthusiasm ! For a game that clearly shares a lot of 3H, they seems to have gone for it to be it’s own things in terms of vibe, and it’s without talking about all the nice gameplay mechanics.
So that’s good to see a prequel/sequel that got a lot of works into it to be unique and it’s not just the same game with a few different faces

the guy that looks like the MC (Cai) doesn’t really feel nor look like an avatar, they would’ve already revealed that if he was

My crackpot theory is that the girl with glasses, that we see with Cai, will be the (silent or not) avatar and she will be an anmesiac girl he found on the road. She will serves as the kind of strategist to help Cai accomplish his dream of winning the tournament to save his father.
And it’s revealed later that she is a time-traveler send here to records things by Sothis, a la Accord from Drakengard 3 lol

To even imply IntSys will have the balls to do anything as cracked as DrakeNier is nuts to me. Unless the character straight up reveals they’re in a video game, injects cheat codes to rewrite reality, and then gets killed thereby revealing they’re actually several identical time-travelling robots, who shut off the TV, we’re not even half of whatever she had going on.

Ahah we can still dream :sob:

Not to be that guy but I’m kinda pessimistic going into FE18. I really didn’t like the gameplay of FE16, and it seems like the new game is gonna take quite a bit of inspiration from 3H. Hell, FE3H is literally the only FE game I have yet to finish because of it (though I guess that won’t last for too long since I’m gonna have to complete it to understand what’s going on in the story). Having to pay $500 for a switch 2 doesn’t help things at all either.

I also hope that we move on from Fodlan after this game. All the 3H vs Engage discourse was already extremely exhausting, and I’m not looking forward to what kind of toxicity this game brings into the fandom.

All that said, I’ll be pretty happy as long as the gameplay is good because that matters more than anything to me. Something similar to FE17 or FE12 would be perfect.

After a Brief Hiatus

Hello again Talk-Radio it is I Hatsuru!

Lets talk about game creation and choosing the “right” soundtrack for your hack.

For one, I think having your soundtrack is dependent on 3 main things:

  1. Does it follow a specific motif you set?
  2. Is it good enough to listen to on loop for 30 minutes without getting annoyed by it
  3. Does it fit the right tone story/event wise?

At least for me, I try to listen to all my chosen soundtracks and see if I take it continually for X amount of time. I want to be able to bring a memorable, but juicy soundtrack meant to really get into your ear. Story wise for HoloEmblem I wanted an FE5-Like, mixed with original Vtuber made songs. I think the mashup worked pretty well, but as always, we can improve on our original ideas. I combined both FE5 music and Vtuber music to give a niche, distinct soundtrack that is meant to represent the struggle of the story while also complementing the original media.

What do you guys think? How do you choose a soundtrack?

Uhm i choose the base soundtrack

I can listen to “Disturbance in Agustria” for hours. Which we already have to do because Chapter 2 takes forever and would be even more painful without it.

I steal the songs from the series I’m making a fan game of.

One thing I have learned the hard way through my years of playing fire emblem is that unit balance is key to a playthrough. (sorry, i was answering the first post on the thread.)

boy am I sure gonna test that second one for somefin’.

This was a very nasty thing to say about me specifically (/s)

Edit: sorry Ru didn’t mean to necro the first topic… had no idea this thread was organized that way.

regarding the soundtrack question, I haven’t every produced content here so I can’t answer directly, but I think preps music is one of the most important things to get right!
