Super Smash Bros. Emblem

Once upon a time… Master Hand sent out invitations to every veteran to discuss the roster for Super Smash Bros. 6. However, Marth was under the control of Alear of Lythos, and she and Alfonse of Askr had other plans…

Bugs? That’s impossible, this was always intended to be my International Hack Release Day project and hasn’t had its scope cut down by 99%. The other 99% that definitely wasn’t cut out for the sake of time may or may not appear in the future.
There’s two flavours of patch: apply the normal version if you like going around in circles, or apply type B if you like proofs of concept.

The included FMV can be found in not-GBA quality above. I wanted to make an actual chapter, but all there is to show for it is a comical amount of text and zero gameplay whatsoever. So I decided to call it after jamming Melee’s opening with a few FE-themed edits. Patch B just leads into a War of Lovers dev build - I don’t think I even included the text for the intended hack in this build. If anyone actually plays it for whatever reason, Ch13 has most of its story written and the Super Mario characters have placeholder palettes, from what I remember. The original idea was a shoutout to the many FE romhack cameo characters, which ended up morphing into Alear takes over Smash Bros. I’d like to come back to this at some point, but right now I’m tired. One day I’ll learn to actually sit down and do it. That day is not today.

You never let me down

is there a actual opening FMV

Yes. The FMV was the only thing I actually got done. The default patch just plays it on loop forever.

what did you do to achive a opening FMV with that many colours? how much space did it take up in the ROM?

First I exported the video at 240x160. I use OpenShot for editing videos but I assume most video editors can handle this. Then I opened Meteo and used the 240x160 video file as the input. I left most quality settings alone, cut audio to 10kHz, and maybe bumped up the bitrate slightly. Then I followed the reliable method to get it in the rom: I couldn’t get the buildfile method to work nicely.
Overall, the 1:30 30fps FMV took up a bit over 10 megabytes.
