It doesn’t look like a terrible rebalance, but calling it perfect and saying that it took thousands of hours is very iffy.
I’m handwaving because people are in this thread upset over an Fe7 rebalance. It’s a knee jerk reaction because you saw a clickbait title and allowed that to influence your ability to be critical. Some of yall are being petty and calling it critical. Like I understand not liking his use of the word “perfect” to describe his rebalance but like to sit here and try and rationalize your initial reaction to clickbait is funny.
And the discussion? Are we reading the same posts? First ten posts, maybe.
Yeah real constructive
Wowzer
Oh wow
Most of rye’s post was about the clickbait.
Ghost’s was about no community recognition(lol)

Dude your own post, isn’t even that substantive.
Again if this was about the effects of this change on the game you would have brought up the economy in FE7. Instead you just say they guy probably didn’t care enough.
This is like, not an issue. The Wo Dao is rare enough that there being another 1-2 sword is actually a good thing because, as he said in the video, Swordmasters had limited 1-2 access(and worse, no physical 1-2) Being locked to myrms doesn’t matter because heroes already get 1-2 and Assassins have utility.
There are 2 Wo Dao in fe7 and both are completely miss-able, its has 30 uses in vanilla. +10 uses is quite literally so it doesn’t break as fast when not getting a crit, because it can now counter attack at range. He gave it more uses because it would be being used more. Oh, no! My rare, Super miss-able weapon has more uses to compensate for being able counter at range.
I’m calling these reactions Knee-jerk because they’re half thought out and barely address actual gameplay implications. Again I have no issue with that, but don’t lie about it. ![]()
Yall if someones coming in and saying the way you’re feeling about someone presenting the labor of your community to a wide audience and giving (what is in your view) inadequate recognition and visibility to that community is invalid or ridiculous
They’re probably not worth your time, they dont respect your thoughts to begin with. Dont just take the bait.
I’m reopening this now, hopefully no more of this will continue or action will be taken.
Ok so first of all, nobody cares about clout. This rom hacking community has a focus on collaboration and sharing. This rebalance caught FEU’s attention because it was made by a Youtuber, who is popular enough to get 200,000+ views within a day and a half, claiming to have a perfect rebalance that uses lots of assets and patches from this community and barely mentions their contributions in the video that most of the audience is going to see. And evidently Smith hasn’t really interacted with FEU or other FE communities as far as I know. So this boast is going to be a bit of a sticking point. I am not a super regular person in any FE communities either but even I can tell this.
Second, I don’t really know what you want me to elaborate on. I didn’t like vanilla FE7 enough to finish it. If I were to play a rebalance, I’d just want it to have more significant features. “Significant” is subjective, much like everything else. But I don’t know, compared to the FE8 rebalances that can be found on this website, it just doesn’t grab me. And the claim of perfection as I stated puts me off more.
oh no
Personally I just find it funny they added an iron axe chest because they couldn’t figure out how to change Hector’s inventory (he uses one hidden in the start event)
Ah, that sure is crazed beast, that’s for sure

The rest of the map is lv13 pirates and lv15 monks.
Also seems like you can get at least 3 short bows (now 1-2 range), one from Rath, one from a nomad in The Dread Isle and one from a warrior in Crazed Beast.
Archer stocks are rising.
The only thing worse than enemy spam is enemy spam that’s hard to kill.
Strong promoted enemies will be a theme, promoted class growths are increased more than unpromoted ones, despite promoted classes getting more autolevels.
This is neat
I agree with this. Had to comb through Lyn mode generic slots to open up enough so maps with reinforcements had different stats than the standing armies, because the base game has a unique slot for nearly every generic in Lyn and then uses two or three Morph ones and Black Fang slots for the next 20 chapters.
He does refer to his Pokémon Legacy rom hacks as “perfect” in their respective videos. I think Smith and his team just didn’t have enough knowledge on FE hacks to make any really noticeable changes besides “no rain in Chapter 10”. I mean come on, the unit buffs seems to be canceled out by the buffed enemy growths.
I think he actually meant to get his established audience - mostly just Pokémon fans - to play his FE7 rebalance, like he is testing the waters for more “Legacy hacks” of other franchises, meaning he didn’t have to worry that much since the “target audience” was supposed to be people with little to no experience with Fire Emblem. Of course FE fans, specially the more experienced with either FE7, FE Builder or both, won’t agree with the “perfect rom hack” claim, especially when you consider that rebalancing a FE game is much more complex than rebalancing a Pokémon game (Yellow and Crystal Legacy are good hacks tho, I didn’t play Emerald because it just sounded too similar to vanilla)
I was one of the playtesters on this. I think it was fun and had a lot of neat little changes, both to characters and maps, that made it fun to play through the game again. Eliwood starting with Lances in particular was great. A lot of characters that are normally pretty awful got much better (my Dorcas ended up with 20 speed, that felt incredible). I haven’t played the final patch, just a version from a few months ago, but I can’t imagine it’s changed all that much.
why yes, I am in fact reviving a 3 year old account to post about a hack I’ve never played in a series I lost interest years ago.
This “PERFECT” work has clearly ruffled some feathers, and in typical FEU fashion people are pretty inept at arguing why bad thing is bad. It is concerning and yet entirely deserved that blatantly fallacious posts like Ysor’s are likemogging everyone else: and I’d argue it demonstrates cleanly why such a pedestrian hack could’ve become such a sensation despite FE hacking being in a state where even “low-effort” works are light years ahead of what ““SmithPlays”” (His name is Pat–more on that later) is capable of.
No one in current year plays Super Mario World hacks because they want something like Super Mario World. That scene has developed to the point of cultivating another niche entirely, and the same applies to Fire Emblem. Inevitably, this leads to a disconnect between the hacking scene and your average Joe McSeries Fan, where Joe McSeries is going to have to, at minimum, peruse the scene to the point where they can discern the hacks that are “like Mario” from the hacks that are “only kind of like Mario”. If they’re particularly purist to Nintendo-bred Mario, they may have to accept that nothing in the scene is for them, which may foster resentment.
So why isn’t the 2D Mario fanbase divided into factions who hate each other, like Pokemon and arguably Fire Emblem is? It’s because the Mario fanbase has actual community. They have VISIBLE representatives for their community, semi-big streamers who Joe McSeries fan can connect to and vicariously experience the appeal of “non nintendo-y” hacks through. FE kind of had that in the early Three Houses period through the FEtuber sphere but that scene fucking exploded and the few who continue on seem to be openly craven people (many of which openly fraternize with FEU darlings but that’s another story).
What I’m trying to say is that every hacking scene that continues for over a freaking decade is inevitably going to diverge from the apparent appeal of the source material and the primary way that you get people to understand why these divergences exist (and why the idea of making FE7 with Better Numbers is embarrassingly rote) is to have people they can connect to who can, for lack of a less condescending term, educate them. Right now FE’s hacks exist in a vacuum of context where Joe McSeries has no idea why anyone would play them over the official games (especially the newer ones).
Kleptoparasitic influencers with pre-existing fanbases can occupy this vacuum as they massively outnumber the very small enclaves of people that actually understand the nuance behind any of this. To make matters worse, what few “FE influencers” exist that actually do keep in touch with the hacking scene seem to be FAR more interested in exploiting momentary hype cycles created by projects like this for their own benefit that they are actually showcasing hacks that have integrity.
And like I said, his real name is Pat. He’s an ex-Call of Duty youtuber eager to distance himself from a grooming scandal. He’s as big of a snake as they come and it’s pretty embarrassing that people are trying to belittle this scam on from a lens of merit/good gameplay when it wouldn’t even actually matter if the game was good.
@SanbaiIce First things first, I do agree on your stance regarding FE hacking and communities. Me myself, as someone who’s relatively new here, I’ll admit that I’m not going to focus as much on hacking compared to others, since I have experience with other communities of other games where things go “really bad”, as in when drama suddenly explodes out of nowhere.
So in my case I’m still a little guarded and careful while in other communities (including this one I again admit), but at least I still try my best and both try to help and preach those who are indeed looking to make great projects and also be themselves genuine help for others.
NOW, on the final line of your post regarding Pat, well… damn, sometimes the hunch that you have when you first see someone really turns out to be correct after all.
Thanks a lot for sharing the video, I really mean it.
The only thing that I have to say about the video is… ah screw it, let’s go this direction:
Guess what FEU’s Official Rule #9? You’re about to have company!
How can these be simultaneously true???
Is it because “no one” means you?
