Im completely new here and never expected to stumble upon a gigantic community creating custom FE animations. Perhaps my questions are completely out of the question for this community and if so i apologize.
Im an indie video game developer and currently working on a game that would use FE type battles. For the animations of these battles i have contemplated using FE style animations. If possible i would like to find partners to help make the animations instead of making them myself. My questions therefore are:
Are the animations in the repository custom made and not against any copyright of the FE creators?
Could I use the animations in the repository in my own video game?
If not are there likely to be people on this platform that might like to animate custom animations for a video game in FE style?
Assuming you’re talking about making video games for money, this is probably a little bit beyond the paygrade of FEU proper. That said, a good place to start might be our credit guidelines. We do mention treating “F2U” (free to use) as CC-BY-ND which doesn’t include a non-commercial clause, but I’d suggest talking to your lawyers and probably the individual artists in question.
(To make things completely clear: FEU’s credit policy is intended for internal, non-commercial purposes. FEU as an organization exerts no control over the community asset repository. We make no official statement on the legality or commercial licensing status of any assets therein.)
There are many that fit both categories in this regard, ¿unfortunately?, due to the number of them that are edits from IntSys’ art. While most of the full custom animations have arguments for saying they’re totally usable elsewhere, plenty of them are borrowing their choreography, visual appearance, or otherwise from some specific thing.
While the intention is for these to go into FE fangames, I highly doubt anyone would be upset about using them otherwise; but I would highly recommend asking the artists if possible about using their work just to cover your bases if nothing else.
Cam beat me and better-posted about what else I had to say here.
There have been a number of commissionable artists who even do battle animations and plenty who like to do animations for fun - Quite a few of Dark Deity’s combat animations got done by animators from this community, for example.
