Another year has passed, once more the Team of Parallel Emblem wishes all of you a merry christmas. And once more I use this opportunity to reflect on the year.
Time flies fast. A lot has happened this year and the progress was bigger than it feels to me, honestly. Fee and Heather finally got official artwork again!
Okay, now to be serious: Part 1 is finally finished and our heroes are about to move into dangerous territory. Many things I was excited about are coming together soon. Though once more I don’t wanna promise anything. My final exams are starting this year so my focus 2024 will shift more towards reality. I’m sure I will find free time to put into the project, but I will not set the FEE3 this year as a goal for a new patch or even making a video entirely. Making the FEE3 Video this year was one of the most fun I ever had in my life but it also took a while to put together. Time that I mostly had free one month before the deadline which is when all I needed to piece it together was finally there. Plus it was my first time doing it. I really wanna do something big again once the game is finished and even if we end up taking a break for the event, afterwards there will be more to be shown.
Speaking of more, my biggest wish is to finish more than a total of 4 chapters for the next patch. So far the progress resolved around the strategy slow and steady, finishing one chapter per chapter. I tried branching that out a little bit but I became unhappy with that and combined with less freetime and the chapters being bigger I lost the “1 month = 1 finished chapter” goal that I set in my mind. Not meaning that I wanted to have a total of 12 chaps to be done at the end of each year, but as a time how long it should max take me to finish one. Though, I lost track of this. After we released the patch in November 1 more chapter was finished and another one is almost finished (counting gameplay, story dialouge, extra events etc.) Which would rise up the total progress this year to 6 chapters. Not bad for a 2-man Crew I’d say. And the experimental approach I take when designing a chapter, I really like. When its about setting up enemies and playtesting this over and over, its not a matter of “if”, its a matter of “when.” I also became more invested into Map design. For some reason though I realized I hit more and more “writer’s-blocks” which especially slowed me down for the Part 1 Finale which is almost completely Story-only. A shame for me, because this was the part I was once looking forward to the most when we started the whole thing. But probably a consequence of not settling on enough from the get go. In order to stop this from happening, I will focus on story writing specifically, so that in best case scenario all that is done and “just” the text from events, as well as piecing together the gameplay aspects and cutscenes are left to do.
The total progress is the following: Gameplaywise 21/37 Story chapters are finished. There is one more gaiden that will be considered important for the Main Story, so that is within the focus. And we have some more Gaidens in mind for the future. So the goal is to finish these, afterwards the Gaidens, then the final polishing will be set in motion. Including implementing feedback from players.
About the character poll: It was too soon as I expected, and probably a dumb idea to put it into a random post within the thread. Soon nobody will see that one anymore, so if I should do that again, I will prolly do it on the discord with some help of google. Therefore I remove that poll after this post. But I will not forget the vote Ferrum hast gotten.
Speaking of the discord, there will be changes. So far this has been the place where we distributed the patches for the game. We will shift that to another plattform soon. The discord will still be available to join but from that point onwards, only serve to give you updates about the project, new patch releases and other relevant stuff.
