Hi NKORiko, master headhunter (literal (lmao)) BigMood here with some minor feedback.
I feel like this volunteer request form might be slightly intimidating/off-putting for the average hobbyist hacker that lurks the halls of these sacred forums. The general requirements read akin to something I would see at the bottom of a regular job posting, but I would like to dissect some of these in the context of making a hack to try and clarify what it is you’re looking for in specific for some of these.
In regards to flexibility to adapt to schedules, are you looking for people to adhere to work deadlines for hacks? Do you have any in mind that you’d be willing to share as an example? Due to the hobbyist nature of FE project making, I would expect schedules to naturally fall through as people will (and honestly should) prioritize other needs in their life that arise.
In regards to familiarity with FEBuilder, is this a general need? Will artists and sound designers be inserting their own assets? Additionally, is there an expectation that multiple people will be editing the patch other than yourself? If so, I would unironically add ‘familiarity with (whatever version control you use)’ as a requirement under that.
When asking for a team player, what aspects of the hack are you expecting friction in? There are many artists of good skill and generosity that I would, uh, politically describe as not team players that would nonetheless be valued members of a team. Is there a large amount of intra-team interaction expected as part of this project? Will artists and writers be trading notes on characterizations? Many collaborative projects do not go quite so in-depth, which is why I ask this.
I’d also like to delve a little into the specific requirements.
Custom animations are a fairly large ask for any pixel artist. For reference, when commissioned, these tend to be in the hundreds of dollars each. Of course, it is not impossible that someone passionate would be inspired to make customs for your characters, but I would caution against this as an expectation because it’s a little unrealistic. Many people do actually like just fixing and adjusting existing portraits so that’s a normal ask.
Custom music creation is also something where you’re unlikely to get a full soundtrack out of volunteer work, unless a great number of people decide to join, or unless you (or someone already on your team) already has a few tracks produced that at least give some direction. I can count the number of hacks with custom soundtracks one one hand, and at least a few of those are in LT and therefore unconstrained by GBA music restrictions.
No comments on the writer expectations, but you spelled “Creativelly” wrong in your general requirements.
Lastly, I think the playtester expectations are slightly higher than average for a romhack team. It’s relatively unusual to expect a playtester to fix the bugs they encounter themselves. Generally that’s within the purview of the team actually making the chapters/gameplay.
In any case, I personally believe that your expectations are too high to attract a considerable enough staff to fulfill your creative goals. I could, of course, be wrong, but I would urge you to look over my notes on your request posting and either hone or temper your expectations so you can reach the people most willing to assist.
