Wizard or Jedi/Monk. The OG mentor units in high fantasy.
EDIT: to expand a little, I think Fire emblem’s system of making the early game mentor a paladin lends itself to a unit which can hard carry for close to the entire game. It ties into deeper issues in how mounted units are balanced (or rather aren’t).

what if there was a tank jaigen that drew attacks? and could not attack, on account of their paficism, but is inept with a staff (low mag)
i have always tought a warrior jagen would work well because most jagen lean for strenght and defensive stats so he would have high strengh hp and skill(because jagens have to be reliable) and a decent amount of defenseand luck with les res, of course the speed will be completly terrible
its interesting from a story perspective because Warrior isnt a “noble” class so its definitly a bodyguard or hired mercenary or both and i would put it in the context of the lord fleeing at the start because of how it woudl be handled gameplay wise
from a gameplay perspective having a bow and axe jagen lets you throw very strong fliers like fe6 chapter 7 tier wyverns(maybe from the big bad empire you’re fleeing?) and some actually fast pegasus to the player with the expectation that only the warrior can handle them, also a bow also let you accurately chip while leaving space for other weak units and you could make it so enemies always prioritise attacking the jagen in melee if he’s holding a bow
another but more complicated to add would be throwing armor knights at the player before they have any anti-armor or tomes, even a weak lord would be in danger as long as he cant one shot them with a rapier and risk a heavy adn accurate counter
instead of a silver axe you could have a 3 range super heavy bow that cant double, even if bow already let you chip enemies while letting spaces, you could have a brave bow so the warrior can kill stuff instead of almost killing everything or you could just take the cerulean crescent road and give him a 25 might axe that one shot anything early on

What if you designed a Jagen to be an Adventurer? He rides a horse, uses Bows and Staves, hits hard, tanks, has better stats than everyone, heals, warps, has a Personal Skill, and he can one-round anything effortlessly or keep it alive with his Combat Art named Mercy which spares the foe at 1 HP making it braindead easy to pour EXP into weak units to make them strong. Also he has Lockpick because of his dark and traumatic past and tragic backstory.
Basically, Seth but also heals and does everyone else’s job better too.
Personally for me its a great knight. They have two weaknesses so you can swap between if you want to deny cavaliers or armors from an area respectively. Ontop of this they dont have so much move that they will out run your team as they have less move than an unpromoted cavalier while also having the whole weapon triangle which you can use to show how important it is
I’m putting in two jagens for my hack one’s a summoner with staff utility on the side and the other is an assasin with high stats all around that can crit when they initiate an attack.
The jagen I’m designing for my current project is a War Monk, and I intend to design them so that they get better at healing as their physical attributes fall off.

I made a wyvern lord (or the other one i forgot) Jagen you get in chapter 4 but to counter to have another seth situation he has fe1 jagen level growths to only make him useful is flyer utility for later game
I’ve thought about a druid Jagen that has a prf Hell tome with high accuracy to bring enemies down to 1 hp (would be a little op for bosses so idk how it would work balance-wise), and they’d have access to staves as well. I really like the idea of a support Jagen.
