Yeah, I too have been procrastinating quite a bit in regards to making portraits, but I think I’m gonna be back after a bit to make more.
Anyways, I’m gonna vote for Odin because why not, lol.

fuckin’ “does more damage with a custom weapon with over 12 characters in it’s name” guy.
I mean it suits him but. who came up with that skill.
The person with the biggest brain in the whole dev team actually
it’s the kind of idea that looks at that fine line between genius and insanity and just says “yup, this is home now.”
its a pretty funny personal, i wonder how it works in the original JP vers…
I’m placing my money on Laslow then
Well Amema got it right this time. For all you Odin/Owain fans, he won’t be far behind. When I look at the makeover/disguises that the Awakening trio got when transported to Fates. I think Inigo got the most changes to his looks (his hair grew longer) whereas the other two look like they only got a wardrobe update and (not seen but mentioned) for Owain I think his mark of the Exalt gets hidden too.
The end of gen 1 Fates is in sight. I will probably take a short break from Fates portraits for a few sprites after Odin before starting gen 2.
I’ve updated the main post with the below entry under F2E - Fire Emblem (FE Fates Saga - FE 14 - Laslow/Inigo)
FE 14 Fates - Laslow/Inigo
I honestly thought that Laslow’s design would be trickier than Inigo’s because his armour design looks a bit more intricate, however the color palette and pose turned out more friendly to draw and design. I was actually surprised with being able to pretty much colour each element of his design within the colour palette limits (which I couldn’t do with Inigo properly). Overall pretty happy with how he turned out. He is like Selena, about 2 pixels bigger than his Awakening version. I don’t think there is any particular thing about this sprite that I would want to touch up if I revisit it. Maybe an overall clean up of his hair at most or a recolour of the gold parts of his clothing.
And here is the last of the Gen 1 Awakening trio. I suppose the gen 2 Awakening trio are more like gen 2 Awakening reincarnations. So the next few sprites are probably not going to be gen 2 Fates, I think I’ll draw a few other things before getting back into it. However here is retrospective for Gen 1, as well as the a compilation of the Nohrian Royals and their retainers and a comparison between the Awakening Trio and their Fates looks. (Although note, that neither the Garon and Kilma have been added to the Fates compilation because they’re not Gen 1 playables, when I get to doing the Enemies/Bosses they’ll fit in there)
I’ve updated the main post with the below entry under F2E - Fire Emblem (FE Fates Saga - FE 14 - Odin/Owain)
FE 14 Fates - Odin/Owain
The last of the Awakening trio. You can count on Odin/Owain to have dynamic poses, although the experience of drawing Setsuna did help a lot with planning for this one. Unfortunately his arm is a bit too long to draw his hand and still look proportionately correct to fit into the hackbox. Maybe if I revisit it with hackbox extenders I could maybe squeeze it in. Somehow his palette is bit more generous than Owain’s. I think because he doesn’t have the white fur collar and parts on his gloves that it removes the requirement for white tones, so that makes it a bit easier. Overall I tried to keep him proportionately similar to the Owain I did, but I think the pose does make for heads to appear slightly larger than standard. I think If I were to revisit this one, I’d maybe play with the red colour for his trimming and take another shot at re shading his hair and maybe the circlet.

Question: Are you gonna do Corrin portraits like you did with Robin?
I’ll see how I feel when I get to the Corrins. That is I think 48 different hairstyles (2 sets of the two different Corrins each with their own set of 12 hair). To put that in perspective. The entirety of Gen 1 (+ Azura’s alt and Anna) is 48 portraits.
Anyhow I did say I wanted to do some other portraits outside of Fates for a short break, and the first one will be another Dynasty Warriors Origins design. Definitely rate it amongst the better musou games I’ve played and I do look forward to seeing if they continue this series. The next portrait I’m tossing up between a Marvel Rivals character/design, another OC, another Advance Wars character or a Xenoblade portrait.
I’ve updated the third main post with the below entry under F2E - Non Fire Emblem Properties (Other Game Franchises - Koei Tecmo - Dynasty Warriors Origins - Zhenji)
Dynasty Warriors Origins - Zhenji
So Zheni is one of the long running characters that had a pretty drastic character redesign (both in character and design). Since her debut in Dynasty Warriors 4, she was the Wei faction’s first female character and them being the originally designated evil/edgy faction, she used to be designed as seductress in furs with a bit of a femme fatale look and personality. In Origins they changed her design so its a lot more tame and changed her personality from a femme fatale to more of a caged bird/princess idea, which I feel probably does fit better to how she was in the period. I do wish I had a few more colours available to use for her flower hairpin, so I decided to do an alt without it. The hairpin is definitely what would get changed if I were to revisit it.
yay, more character from DW, look forward to see more in futures
I personally am hoping for a new OC or a Xenoblade character.
i want splice fodder.
Anything can be splice fodder depending on your re colouring and cleaning skills. I’ve seen some pretty impressive splices over my time where I couldn’t even tell they were splices.
Alright with a Rivals skin out of the way, still thinking of doing one or two of the remaining things I said last time.
I’ve updated the third main post with the below entry under F2E - Non Fire Emblem Properties (Other Game Franchises - Marvel Rivals - Storm - Goddess of Thunder)
Marvel Rivals - Storm - Goddess of Thunder
When I first played Marvel Rivals I was thinking of drawing Iron Fist’s Sword skin or Psylocke’s Vengeance Skin (which is what I know Psylocke’s OG costume as), however Storm’s Goddess of Thunder skin came out recently and I thought it was really cool looking and decided to draw that. Since she wears fantasy armour in it I felt it could fit into the FE aesthetic a bit and she can be a Thunder sage. Of course trying to fit her afro haircut into the hackbox is a challenged but I think I did an alright job by making her pose the way it is. Going into this I was worried about her hair and face, but I think her armour is probably the weakest point of this portrait. I made an alt for a different version of her eyes where her irises are slightly more visible. I did consider doing a plain white haired version, but got a bit tired after doing her current hair. I also did consider doing an alt with lightning sparks coming off her, but decided that because the hair took up so much of the hackbox, it wouldn’t look good with only lightning coming off her shoulders and below the top of her afro, although maybe one with lightning coming out of the eyes might not be bad.
So I’ve been a bit preoccupied lately. I recently 100% Steam achievement Marvel Rivals, Civ 7 and started Xenoblade Chronicles X and have been going to a couple of IRL outings for the last few weekends, and look to be busy from now to all the way to just past Easter. So I’m still trying to fit in drawing here and there.
I’ve updated the third main post with the below entry under F2E - Non Fire Emblem Properties (Other Game Franchises - Nintendo - Advance Wars - Sami)
Advance Wars - Sami
So here is another CO. This time the infantry capture specialist Sami. I actually don’t like her Way Forward redesign as much as some of the other characters and actually like her haircut from Dual Strike. However I didn’t like her Dual Strike pose or the more muted colours from Dual Strike so her design is an amalgamation of Advance Wars 2 and Dual Strike. I think the thing I struggled with the most on her is her haircut. I think I need to shrink the headband by like a pixel or two and then I can shrink her haircut a bit, but it looked odd when I did. This causes her head to look a bit bigger than standard, but her head is actually narrower than Marisa’s (just taller because of the hair above the headband). So if I were to revisit this one, its the hair and headband getting work. I thought about what Fire Emblem class she would be and I settled on an Outlaw outfit from Fates. It sorta fits her infantry, spec ops, capture specialisation without being an assassin. So I think she could naturally sorta fit into an adventurer/trickster thief.
A quick take made Sami look 1:1. Very impressive work as usual!
So here is the Xenoblade portrait I decided on. The Definitive edition does feel better than the Wii U original version. Except I do miss being able to view the big map and main screen at the same time with the Dual Screen set up. I’m tossing up on whether I make one more sprite or start going back to Fates 2nd Gen. It has been a while since I’ve done a non video game based portrait.
I’ve updated the third main post with the below entry under F2E - Non Fire Emblem Properties (Other Game Franchises - Nintendo - Xenoblade Chronicles X - Elma)
Xenoblade Chronicles X - Elma
Another Nintendo portrait. This is actually the 2nd Xenoblade portrait I’ve done, the first one I never released because I didn’t like how it turned out and figured I’d eventually go back to that one (Ashera from Xenoblade Chronicles 3). I bought and played Xenoblade Chronicles X back on the Wii U and enjoyed it a lot. However their main characters besides Elma and some of the more alien designs (I almost considered draw Ga Jiarg instead (notable boss in the game)) are kinda bland in design and not as memorable/standout as the cast of the other games. Elma ended up being tough because she has a lot of colours, so much that I couldn’t fit in the blue for her eyes. I also had to get creative with the way her hair is shaded too, to get that shiny silver grey look with only 3 main tones available for her hair. The design of her portrait mainly took cues and design concepts from her Xenoblade 2 art and the colour choices were based on her Xenoblade Chronicles X DE renders. I think if I were to revisit this, I’d try recolouring her silver/grey hair and reshade as well.
Just wanted to chime in with a huge WOW and thank you. You’ve put together such a gorgeous and massive body of work, and put forward so much of it as F2E. It’s genuinly incredible. You’ve effectively quadrupled the number of portraits entry level hobbyists like myself can splice and study from. Incredible.
No worries, I do this for fun as a hobby, If I didn’t share these free to use arts, they’d just sit on my PC doing nothing.
I’ve been a bit busy lately, so I had to take a bit of a break working on sprites. I have just completed a request for someone, so this is my first public sprite since Elma (I’m still about half way through Xenoblade X:DE).
I’ve decided to start working on Gen 2 Fates now, so look forward to that. As for the next one, the next character is a Hoshidan Male.
I’ve updated the main post with the below entry under F2E - Fire Emblem (FE Fates Saga - FE 14 - Dwyer)
FE 14 Fates - Dwyer
So Gen 2 Fates begins. This Dwyer was design is based on a mix of his Fates portrait and his Heroes design. Its his Fates pose (minus the hands and staff because the staff wouldnt fit in the hackbox), but with his Fates clothing (I chose this because his Fates clothing is quite dull and very monotone). Another Fates character with intense hair volume, it underwent several shrinking iterations before settling on this. Since he is also usually depicted with shinier (maybe its greasy?) hair I also made his hair shine a bit more than his father’s. The main thing I wasn’t really satisfied with was his eyes, but I couldn’t quite get the eyes whites and his eye size smaller without making his look in the wrong direction for the pose.
Hoshidan Male, huh? Could it perhaps be… Shigure?
