Fortune's Weave DISCUSSION

Yeah, I thankfully got my Switch 2 second hand, so I don’t feel too guilty about giving Nintendo more money, especially considering I’ve only gotten Kirby Air Riders (PEAK) and Metroid Prime 4 (RIP) since the Switch 2 came out. Bigger games like Mario Kart and Zelda are more meaningful games to not give more money to without sabotaging the franchise.

Honestly, from everything I’ve currently seen of this game, I’m hoping they’ve ironed out the more grindy aspects of Three Houses and at least TRY with the story. I’d rather have a 7/10 game with at the very least enjoyable gameplay and story than a 2/10 that happens to have great gameplay and nothing else in this constant pendulum this franchise goes through of gameplay vs story.

The 4th instance of Risen knockoffs (that this time look like Vallite knockoffs, oh goody.), the somewhat noisy “please pull for us in Heroes” character design that seems to be here to stay, what seems to be another Mary Sue avatar (though hopefully less prominent), and that enormous world map don’t fill me with the greatest confidence. The seeming lack of durability again is also a big red flag of dumbing down the game, but given we’ve seen Three Houses revives on human bosses and a more streamlined instructing system, I hope this game makes me want to put 1000+ hours into it like Three Houses did, for all its flaws.

I’m cautiously optimistic, and I’m happy to feel that way. The community is in a buzz again for the first time since Three Houses pre-release, and I wouldn’t trade the speculation, discussions, analysis, and general anticipation for anything.

I felt that way about engage where it comes to great gameplay and dull story but not 3 houses.

As resident idea man and #1 Combat Arts Enjoyer, I’m really interested to see how the gameplay will pan out. Having two types of arts, with combat arts more in the vein of 3H costing durability and Blaze arts (I think they’re called) having more crazy, Engage-esque effects with a sort of meter, is really cool. I’m excited to see how that will work. However, I’ll only be watching streams of it, since I don’t have that kind of money right now (or ever, probably).

There has been small gameplay footage clips posted on Twitter and this has them all compiled to one video alongside gameplay footage from the trailers:

Really like the remix of Together We Ride as Leda’s theme, it’s so dope.

I really hope the “multiple routes” thing works more like Radiant dawn multiple Povs this time, just with being able to pick the order you do them before we get to the final arc of the story.

Fortunately it seems like it will be very unlikely we will have the first half of the game being identical in all routes again like it happens in 3H, since while there is a “common hub” the context of their stories makes it unlikely they have to go over the same quests the whole time. Except for stories crossing over once in a while like we saw in a trailer with Cai being a green unit, which is fine.

Looks like they’re starting to post the non lord character profiles on the JP twitter. I hope they release these in english too so we have official english translations

The first is named Tiara?
They’re Cai’s childhood friend a presumably team member

Next character reveal, looks like a companion for Dietrich.

Fabio, a missionary from the Church of Seiros in Fodlan. Not sure if that odd eye is a fake or lazy one.

I’m sure it’s a lazy one. Anyways, looks like an interesting character lol. Hope he does end up being cool.

They released a clip of him talking to other characters, and he is giant. Or they’re short. Also the implications of him being a missionary of the church of Seiros means, either this game is set before 3 Houses, or if its a sequel, Edelgard lost/or the Church reformed anyway.

Yeah, can’t say I’m happy about that…

The Church of Seiros is not actually disbanded in Edelgard’s route so in theory it could be then as well. Regardless I’m coming around to it being set before Three Houses but not too much, as a sort of side story to Fodlan rather than an explicit prequel or sequel.

Loving the much more steady stream of information we’re getting now. It’s the 3 Houses hype train all over again and I’m here for it. These characters look so cool. I’m very happy to see an actual tactician character after ages of mary sue avatars who are just the bestest.

Holographic elephants in Fire Emblem was not on my bingo card either lol

Fabio my beloved. Will S support him even though I am a straight male. He’s too iconic.

New week, new character, its “Pirate Waluigi” or “FE Majima”

His name is translated to Bonaparte and he seems to be Theodora’s retainer and historian. Apparently their country can’t/don’t write so they basically have to memorise their history and lessons.

Side note: the fandom had noticed that it looks like everyone has a retainer with an eye conditon (glasses, lazy eye, eyepatch (missing eye?))

Love his design, but Bonaparte is such a strange name choice…

Oral history representation in Fire Emblem! My little nerd heart is happy. In our world, the formation of government without any sort of written language is really rare, so that’s pretty neat. Maybe they got some sort of quippu-esque system? I hope so.

Maybe cat mask lady is Leda’s retainer, since… no visible eyes. Eyes are already pretty important to the world of Three Houses, and we’ve already seen Cai’s eye stuff too.

And with that we have our 4th retainer and eye disability. Vakkania/Buccaneer (still waiting for offical English names), also known as Oni Kuma (demon bear). Apparently addresses Leda as princess.

There’s also a conversation on FE Twitter between him and Leda about how he met her father 20 years ago when he was a legal officer. He’s stated to be some kind of lord and he refers to Leda as a “princess” as mentioned, so she is most likely nobility of some kind.

Interestingly enough we earlier saw a shot of young Leda crying at something burning off-screen, and Buccaneer comes now with a huge burn scar. Those two and her wanting to take revenge for her father’s death are definitely related.

Tbh I’m definitely suspecting Leda, not Theodora as people have assumed, to be the darker, “discourse”, “play as the bad guys” route which Crimson Flower was in 3H. I mean, she was also the one with this shot in the second trailer:

Revenge is an easy motivation to turn into dark temptations.
