I’m not sure how to feel about Fortune’s Weave now after this new trailer.
It looks good, and I certainly hope I’ll enjoy it more than 3H (currently doing a Blue Lions run and god am I bored), but with the new info we have, I’m a bit more cautious with my optimism.
Leda looks cool though, I’ll probably play her route first.
it’s a switch 2 game so I can’t play it until emus are up.
I did not watch the trailer b/c it’s a switch 2 game and I already know that if I can play it, I will, but a Switch 2 is beyond my means, so I can’t play it until emus are up.
I’m not going to go get a Switch 2 for the game (I will be getting it for a different one), but if I like what I see and have the Switch 2 by that point, then I probably will get it.
The year is shown at around 1:12, unless Dagda uses a different calendar than Fodlan, then it’s probably a sequel
it’s always refreshing and humbling to see such a diversity of opinions out there about Fire Emblem games. It reminds me how vast and varied the fan base is, and how we all enjoy and take something different from this ancient and much loved game series about anime wizard chess matches.
From the bottom of my heart, Engage gave me nothing. Dogwater story that couldn’t even take itself seriously. Nonsense setting. Nonsense character designs. Desperately grasping at better characters from better games to distract us from the saccharine trainwreck in front of us. Blegh. No level of fun gameplay could save Engage for being shallow as a puddle and cringey to look at (to me, that is).
At least 3H tried to have a setting and story with weight and some level of verisimilitude. I’m glad to be back on Fodlan, instead of the clown-car carnival ride that reeked of kids’ vomit that was Engage. Let us pray that Engage 2 never sees the light of day. Hopefully Fortune’s Weave is good. We’ll see.
When it comes to time-management in a strategy game 3H struck gold with the calendar system and I’m glad to see it return and be expanded upon with “turns”. If its unavoidable for modern FE to throw in a bunch of extra content, I’ll gladly take limited options instead of the endless grinding and horrid mobile game mechanics of the 3DS era, rewarding you for checking in after real time passes. Yes, even Conquest is a grindy game and I will die on that hill.
I think the “turns” will also be spent moving around the world map. FE2’s moving reinforcements were an interesting but deeply flawed experiment, and every game with a map since until now (don’t count remakes) abandoned any semblance of the world being alive and become a glorified level-select screen where you cross an ocean to go buy javelins before trying to stop the end of the world.
“Welcome to the real racing roots 99 grand prix! Select from four racing teams and win all the races!” Now looking at it, the premise looks kinda similar to a certain ps1 racing game, but anyways…
I’m kinda having the itch to get the Switch 2 just to play this game on release day. Where am I gonna get the dough to get my hands on it though?
If my 3H experience tells anything, I might end up pouring so many hours on this game until I have savoured every moment this game has to offer. Not to mention whatever DLC that might come later on. oh god we got to pay for those too? oh nyo.
P.S Adult Sothis making me feel things now that she looks like that
lore wise my biggest fear is silver snow being the canon ending. or just an ending being uncontestibly canon in general. but especially silver snow. and. azure moon I guess.
IMO there is no risk of IS ever daring to canonize one of the endings of 3H. They have always played extremely safe with the 3H plot in side content like Heroes ever since.
Since this is set on another continent centuries after 3H I assume they’ll keep to this in Weave, only hinting at the existence of a “united Fodlan” at most.
Honestly, I’m hyped for this (even though I can’t play at release cus I’m poor as hell).
I’ve seen people be dissapointed that it’s “more three houses”, but honestly IS could just have learned from their mistakes and improved the base formula. Dungeon exploring looks to be back, unit management and some other stuff which I like.
I do hope that four protagonists doesn’t mean one of them gets done dirty, like what happened to Edelgard’s route(s) though.
I was pretty dissapointed with Engage and (from what I’ve seen) Fortune’s Weave looks more up my alley. I’m pretty sure this is meant to be a prequel by the way, as how else are they going to explain what 3H route is canon?
Soooooo excited. hopefully they do better with the supports and stuff than Engage. That is the first fire emblem I haven’t played more than once largely in part to lack of paired endings. Loved the gameplay though, so if this can be more character focused and bring back paired endings I will be hooked for years…probably good until they give me path of radiance remake (Wishful thinking) or at least radiant dawn on nintendo online.
The designs look great. Like Olivia pointed out, there’s way more variety here than I’m used to seeing from Fire Emblem. There are even several design types I thought the series had basically abandoned, like the more rugged-looking characters.
I honestly have faith that the gameplay will be good. I’d like to think they’ve learned the right lessons from Three Houses on that front. The main thing I’m curious about is the story. Since this seems to be a Three Houses sequel, I expect they’ll lean into a more Three Houses-esque approach to writing and tone, but I hope it feels more fully realized this time.
That said, I do have some reason to be cautious. If there really are four different routes, I worry they might not be able to give each one enough attention. Yes, this is absolutely Three Houses PTSD talking.
Still, I don’t want to go in with strong expectations, either positive or negative. I’d rather expect nothing and be pleasantly surprised. Not because I think the game will be bad, but because I’ve learned my lesson about letting expectations cloud my judgment. I’d rather judge the game on its own merits once it’s actually here.
Fortune’s Weave looks interesting I guess, but I won’t play it because the Switch 2 seems too overpriced to me, and there don’t seem to be any games on it right now that make it feel worth it for me to shell out +400€ for a console and then 80€ for just a single game (though I’m aware Fortune’s Weave is luckily only 70€). The only game I’m really interested in right now is the new Dragon Quest Monsters that luckily releases on Steam and the regular Switch too, so there still isn’t a big reason for me to buy the Switch 2 (especially with how Nintendo has become more disingenuous with their practices).
