Fastest any% (and probably crappiest hack)
The real reward was the friends chapter you made along the way. You could touch it up and re-use it as a chapter in your own hack, for example. Quick drafts are rough, but makes for a great starting place.

FIVE HOURS FROM READING THIS
Sorry, not really.
Dec 31st, 2024
It’s just a few hours of your time, so don’t procrastinate plz.
sorry, is this in reaction to the optional theme of having chatgpt help you with something in the process of making a silly hack in a few hours?
I don’t understand - if you don’t like chatgpt, you don’t have to use it

Should my contest be forbidden from suggesting chatgpt be optionally used?

The above question is worded in a way that suggests censorship, while the one below is neutral and simply your preference.
I would prefer not to have chatgpt suggested to me
I don’t mind chatgpt being suggested

I’m not trying to offend anyone, I’m just genuinely surprised by this reaction. Please do not respond to this thread with discussion about chatgpt. If suggesting chatgpt be optionally used is disliked by a lot of people in the above preference poll, then I am happy to remove the suggestion. If users start discussing ai in general on this thread, then I’d prefer to lock the thread and make it again without mention of chatgpt.
Post-modernist fe hacking, everyone. When I care more that I made a hack, rather expressing myself and my ideas and sharing them through medium of rom-hacking.
If I wanted to practice making a rom-hack, I’d rather practice by trying to make a rom-hack that I want to make.
“* Use chatgpt to help storyboard, generate ideas, or draft some dialogue for you. Doesn’t matter if it’s bad 'cause this is a blitz”
I’m just a little confused by this part. If you’re saying the writing quality doesn’t matter for this because it’s a blitz, why include a section suggesting the use of AI to write the story?
Wouldn’t it make more sense to just say no story or dialogue is needed for this blitz?
the theme for this coming hot off the heels of the 'coord moment just gives an air that this was made in part as response to that considering its within that same ballpark. which then leaves a negative vibe about the intents
The purpose of this event is to encourage people to try something new in a low stakes, friendly environment, and to enjoy the process. Each year when I repost it, I think back to how SirNicee participated in the first one, among others:
Obviously I can’t take credit for participants being part of the community, but I like to believe that hosting this each year has a positive impact on the community
I want to encourage people to experiment, and let them know that it’s okay to make something bad, lol.
Following the recent discussions of ai, I thought it’d be a harmless suggestion to optionally try it as part of your hacking process. I’ve had a positive experience with ai in this context, but I’ve had negative experiences with ai in some other contexts. I figured some people might try it in this context and share what their result is - be it negative or positive. For a silly hack made in a few hours, it felt like the perfect opportunity to mess around with it, and if all you get out of it is a laugh at how badly it did when given x tasks, that’s fine by me lol. I figured we’d get entertainment out of the process either way.
I did not realize that many people would react negatively to the suggestion. I apologize for not reading the room properly.
I don’t see this thread going anywhere positive, so I’d like to ask that it be closed, please.
Fair enough, but vesly only suggested it. Like people can just choose not to use it. I just don’t understand why the guy is catching heat for posing an option
As you can see, he got a nay on both of these. He then subsequently made this thread out of the blue with that chatGPT theme, within a couple hours of that last poll. The initial people in this thread (cb1052 and Spensir in particular) are mostly boggling that apparently he was annoyed enough by those poll results to deliberately make it the theme for this contest, to which he has pretended it was an innocently chosen optional theme, and not something he deliberately picked as a result of that pushback he got on the discord. For my part I think that is rather dishonest, whatever your opinion on chatGPT.
