Fire Emblem: Eckesachs - FE6, but you play as the bad guys! [Complete story rewrite]

On chapter 15, following the war crime extravaganza that just took place

Summary

I have now killed 4/6 of Roy’s potential marriage partners. Fun fact.

Was not expecting to see HIM.

Summary

With his peerless sword skills on Bern’s side, victory is assured.

Editing this so I don’t keep creating multiple posts.

Ch 16:

Wow, hat’s off to you. The pre-battle dialogue between Douglas and Mordred was really well done.

War crime extravaganza has to be the funniest way to describe that.

Him...............

Fun fact: Everyone’s other favorite meme Lyn mode bossman, Batta, can appear instead of The Peerless. It depends on which route of the Western Isles you went to - which is also why the route exclusive druids, Wagner and Nord, can recruit the two.

Not sure which one’s better. Likely Glass, his hitrate issues are probably easier to patch up than Batta’s more mediocre offensive stats. On the other hand, Wagner’s probably the better of the Western Isles druids, so it balances itself out, perhaps?

…Looking back, perhaps I should’ve added a clue to their recruitments - they’re both a bit out there.

Anyway, thank you once more for your kind words! Truth be told, watching a playthrough of the hack I felt like the chapter 16 intro could stand to be shortened. Goes on for way too long as it is. But I’m glad you found it well written, at least.

v1.16 released!

  • Added a few more optional conversations.
    Rose/Raith in chapter 15
    Maggie/Damas in chapter 17
    Batta/Zinque in chapter 20A
    Glass/Henning in chapter 20A
  • Remove Wagner/Zinque and Nord/Zinque from chapter 20A, where I left it by mistake.
  • Added a hint to Batta and Glass’s recruitments in their introductions.
  • Shuffled Scott, Maggie and Rose’s growths around a bit.

It’s so difficult to get the stats of the brigands right… This is why Scollan is the best. I don’t feel the need to worry about balance when it comes to joke units.

It’s what I said, and I’m sticking by it. This hack has been a great way of addressing the five stages of grief (starting with the death of you-know-who in chapter 8.)

  1. Denial (did I really just do that? Maybe the boss is just in hiding.)
  2. Anger (why did I do that? Now I feel angry at myself)
  3. Bargaining (Okay, I can keep going. I really, really want to see how this story ends, so sacrifices are needed.)
  4. Depression (I can’t believe I killed another character I loved…)
  5. Acceptance (Hah Hah War Crimes go BRRRR)

Interesting. Well, if/when I replay this I’ll be sure to take the route not traveled, and snag the other guy.

I’d ask you to not shorten it, but it’s up to you. I thought it was beautifully crafted!

This last bit is a minor nitpick, but I feel like the term ‘smote’ would be better used than ‘smitten,’ as I think the latter is more commonly used to describe being in love with someone/something, while ‘smote’ is just the past tense of smite.

I think you got the names of the patches mixed, the red player palette has the name of the vanilla one and the vanilla palettes has the normal name.

Yep, looks like I did. Whoops. I believe it’s fixed now.

v1.17 relea ok no

Yeah, I figured chapter 8 would be the first death that’d hit hard. Hence why I made very sure to pour some salt on the wound and rub it for good measure.

That’s a pretty interesting way to put it. I’m truly happy to hear that you have embraced the joy of war crimes, in the end. Look forward to the rest of the war crimes before the end of Zephiel’s merry adventure.

Nah, I don’t think I will. Just some musings is all. Besides, if folks enjoy it, then there’s no problem!

I’m never sure about this. Smote is the past tense, but all four times it’s used in the hack, it’s the past participle, which the internet tells me is smitten… But then it also says smitten is more commonly used as you describe, so. Gosh darn it, english, why do you gotta be like this sometimes?

I just wanted to mention I just started this hack, and am really enjoying my time so far. The writing is really tight and fitting, the class balance is interesting so far, and it fits a lot of the designs I like from hacks like FE Girls, Myrm Emblem, or Green Emblem.

I thought I wouldn’t have as much fun playing a hack without something like the skill system, and to a degree, some units do feel a bit generic in their role so far (I’m at chapter 6).

I’m excited to see more of the hack!

You are in for one hell of a show once you get past chapter 7

Glad you’re enjoying the hack! I did what I could with the base tools, since FE6 is not as hackable a game as FE8 and I wanted to keep things more or less simple with this anyway.

I can only hope you’ll continue to like Zephiel’s jolly adventures. Do let me know how it goes!

Hah… This is giving me some déjà vu.

If i had a coin for every rewrite fangame that absolutely destroyed my emotions past Ch.7 i had two coins, which isn’t a lot but i hoped that it didn’t happened twice

funnily enough they have the same creator

So unsurprisingly enough Zephiel have the most conversations in this hack. But i have to ask why does Murdock, Idunn and Brunnya all have one conversations? And this only referring to talk conversations not battle conversations. Not that I’m complaining about minor bosses get more conversations then the important ones. But still i asking.

Hey, that’s quite handy!. I’d been wondering about these numbers for a bit but I never bothered to count them haha. Thanks for doing this.

Team Zephiel already gets all of the screentime in the main plot, so I wanted to focus on the secondary cast when it came to the optional convos. I spared one or two for the main characters where it suited them, but I didn’t go out of my way to give them any more.

This includes Zephiel. His list of convos in the guide is actually a bit misleading. Most of Zephiel’s conversations listed there are “get the new recruit a weapon” convos or “recruitment conversation but the recruit already starts blue”, like his chapter 2 convo with Martel or his chapter 8 convo with Legance. The only optional convo he got, in the same style as the rest at least, was the one with Guerrero in chapter 15 - hence why it’s the only one that’s listed in its chapter’s “conversations available” list ingame.

I do wonder how the count looks when you substract those conversations. This also includes Thoril and Kabul’s combo in chapter 3, which is just the scene that happens if Thoril visits the village. Might run the numbers later.

Was the other coin also from a SaintRubenio hack?

Summary

From Barthe (paraphrased from his death quote) : “Lilina, forget all this… Escape while you can… Just… save… yourself”

How far through are you? I’m assuming you already finished chapter 8/8x.

Couple of insights that have been on my mind;

Summary

Seeing as much of the music has been switched around, I feel like it would’ve been fitting to give Etruria’s 3 generals ‘In the name of Bern’ or at the very least give it to Douglas, as he’s a major storyline boss.

Lilina having her own battle them (Dragonkin’s Last Stand) was a really great choice. I was half expecting Echidna to get a unique boss theme as well, since she’s the boss of the second story arc. But that’s just me overthinking things.

Oh, and I don’t know if I bugged something, but the guide says Roartz has a boss convo with Douglas, but that convo didn’t trigger.

On another musical note, one of the little things I really appreciate is how the ‘victory is near’ music (usually something cheerful and uplifting) is replaced with FE6’s rendition of ‘Into the shadow of victory’ (or whatever that track is called.)

Edit: Chapter 18 complete!

Damn…

Summary

Those were two characters I was absolutely NOT expecting to see. Makes me wonder if they’ll play a larger part in the plot, or if it’s just a neat reference to FE7.

v.1.17 released!

  • Added a battle quote for Garrett and Geese in chapter 14.
  • Shuffled a few more supports around.
  • Fixed the Guerrero/Dory convo in chapter 16x being mistakenly listed as Debias/Dory in the guide.
  • Fixed the Mieu/Jahn convo in chapter 16 preventing Roartz’s battle convo with the boss.
  • Fixed Windham’s recruitment conversation with Catalena in chapter 16x preventing her battle convo with the boss.
  • Added two new conversations:
    Ruud/Ruben in chapter 16x
    Daniela/Lamia in chapter 22

I didn’t have much room for music shenanigans, actually. I didn’t install the character music patch, so the only special boss themes I get are the ones attached to vanilla bosses. So I just replaced those bosses with the characters I wanted to have special music.

A different, more major and more fitting boss got In The Name of Bern all to themself. Zephiel’s replacement boss also gets their own theme, and Lilina shares hers with two lategame bosses. That’s all I could do, and I’m decently satisfied with it.

Ah yes, I see the problem. It has the same flag assigned as the Mieu/Jahn convo, so when you triggered that it made the game think you already saw the Roartz convo. It’s fixed now.

This is how the convo goes if you're still curious

Roartz: Douglas! Today is the day of my revenge!
Douglas: Roartz… Contemptible snake! Revenge for what? You dare blame me for your downfall? You had the king’s trust, you fool! All you had to do was not take advantage of it! You brought your disgrace
upon yourself!
Roartz: D-Douglas… How… dare… y… DouglaaAAAAAAAAAS!! DIE!!
Douglas: Have at me, Roartz. Let us see if you can best Etruria’s Great General!

Summary 2: Concise Boogaloo

Nah, none of the non-FE6 playable characters play a role in the story. Though Lim does have a boss convo with a certain FE7 veteran…

Interesting. I’m on chapter 20 now, so there’s not too many bosses left to go through. It’ll be interesting to see who gained the honor of getting In the Name of Bern.

I’m pretty sure I can guess at who Zephiel’s replacement boss is, and what their theme will be. Time will tell if my intuition was correct.

Looking forward to seeing who else shares the chapter 8 boss’s theme!
