This is great to hear, I loved this hack back when I played it. I hope you keep what you did with light magic in the sequel..

First of all before anyone says or assumes that my complaints are attributed to āskill issueā, Iāve finished 19, not 1, not 2, not 5 but 19 different fire emblem Rom Hacks and now Iām just waiting for the sequel to Shadow of Dawn.

āI can also understand if you would attribute it to LUCK because what Iām coming to talk about is not a player issue but a game mechanic that either helps you succeed or fail in any game especially a tactical RPG like fire emblem.

āI play these rom hacks first of all to enjoy myself because thatās my purpose of these games, they are an escapism from the real world problems we face everyday so I just want to enjoy myself. I play most of them on normal difficulty and if Iām feeling big, hard difficulty but either way I just want to enjoy my playthrough. Here is my list of completed games

āNow unfortunately this is the one game (Dark Lord and the Maiden of Light) that in my opinion is one of the worst Iāve ever played and itās only because of one thing

āGROWTH RATES

āThis is such a key game mechanic in fire emblem games to the point that if not executed right (like in my case) wonāt allow you to finish the game

āHalf way through the game I was already pissed off and completely done with it because of how poorly all my units were leveling up, it would have been fine if maybe 5 units didnāt level up well so in that case Iāll exempt the 5 and use the rest
āBut even the Lords in the game together with a huge chunk of units level up poorly, Bruh, you are not finishing this game no matter the number of times you play it

āMy first playthrough ended in chapter 6, I didnāt like how they leveled up so I started all over again all the way till the final chapter, at that point I didnāt even give a damn about the story anymore because I was completely turned off by how poorly built my units were

āNow am at the final chapter and I canāt defeat the final boss. This is the only game to annoy me like this. I donāt care if I donāt finish it, I wasnāt even having fun, I just wanted to see how it ends but even thatās no longer possible

āNow if youāll excuse me, Iām going to play the sequel to Four Kings (The Dream Spirit), coz that game is more like an open world fire emblem exploration game which is a really interesting concept in my opinion as supposed to a traditional fire emblem game.

The hack may not be for everyone but calling it trash, garbage and it sucks might be a bit much? You say your post isnāt a rant but I would rephrase that to something like āSorry, but this is just not for meā. Iām not defending the hack and saying its the best ever but to me its better than most hacks that you have listed there IMO.

If it was not for me then maybe Iāll understand but I was extremely excited to play this hack only for it to be so disappointing, you couldnāt even debunk my argument therefore I was right in my justification.
Also this game is not better than the first 4,6,7,8,10,12,13,14,16,17 so itās not better than most of the games Iāve listed, prove me wrong
Every game I listed is better that DLATMOL with regards to growth rates and thatās the point I wanted to get across, thatās why this game is garbage
Game quality is subjective, proper community behavior is not. There is no need to be outwardly disrespectful. You donāt like the design choices, fine. Offer constructive criticism or donāt say anything at all.

Typical example, Mindseye is definitely a bad game because of how buggy it is, if I say because of this, the game is garbage, how is it disrespectful. Am I missing something here? Please tell me how my statement is disrespectful
I said to use different words instead of trash and garbage at the end.
Its my opinion too that I like this more than most hacks. The story is top notch with some great plot twists, gameplay is great and feels much like vanilla FE7, the end game is maybe on the difficult side, but I still had a load of fun. The growth rates are completely fine and balanced as well to me.
Your coming off as disrespectful because you said you said youāll judge people who like this over something that is actually just a matter of opinion.
Next time you play a hack at least just be more appreciative that much work was put into it like this one, instead of calling it garbage and trash, its just wrong.

Look your entitled to your own opinion and offering criticisms that is ok but you need to be respectful of saying your complaints and not just calling it Garbage making a rom hack takes time and effort and I am sure the creator has worked hard on this and is willing to listen to what you have to say to improve but if you are gonna be nothing but negatively rude then go find a different rom hack to play and complain about anyway that is my opinion on the matter

Alright you both did well to articulate which aspect of my essay felt disrespectful, yes it does take time to complete a hack, so essentially itās the terminology I used, Iāll give you both this one. Owkay how about the game wasnāt good enough because the game mechanic which is supposed to help you succeed didnāt work well.

I should replay this game. Itās pretty consistently been one of my top 3 out of the 25 or so FE hacks Iāve played over the years.
Thereās just something inherently fun to watch about a lord duel-wielding zweihanders. Or claymores. Or whatever the heck those giant swords Orion uses are post-promotion.
