[FE8] Terror Of The Forest (FINAL CHAPTER OUT)

Ok i get it, but i still believe some things should be explained like the artifact, that was a big plot point for many chapters, the creature in Yami’s dad basement was shown briefly to the player and Yami escape her fathers house the next chapter for a some reason without much explanation, so it was kinda set up for him to show up again, could of worked under boneface like Aster that would of been a could way to show us a corrupted person before the plot for that kick in, and finally Jordan and Gladioz showing up again swearing bloody murder to the group replacing Ramirez, would of been hella funny though thats just a personal opinion and not neccesary. I can agree with the others.

Thanks, and there is another bug. Ch1: Prison Break:The person who appeared in the dialogue between Otoko and Achille is Dick,I don’t know if it was intentional.

I, er… uhh. You realise Yami’s dad was a FMA reference right the whole thing was a giant FMA joke, the dudes portrait was literally Sho Tucker. So the implication is that Yami is likely not entirely human and his lab was full of “failed” experiments of half alive creatures in immense agony.

and since the group of travelers didn’t stay long or say anything to the effect of knowing what he’s done he sees no reason to go after them.

Likely also figured Yami was a failure or her leaving allows him to work in earnest again and doesn’t want to leave his experiments untended for too long.

Side note, again you keep bringing up details that there is no way for Sylvester to have known. Even when he tells Arnold’s parts he prefaced it with having been told it all second hand so it might not be 100% true. Even learning about boneface and aster is technically something only the player knows since, to Sylvester, he never actually heard those messages.

The who plot is somewhat intended to sound like one of those “no shit, there i was” kind of stories, just full of details that aren’t elaborated on or explained because they aren’t important to the overall scope of the narritive.

HI! First off, thank you for the very in-depth criticism, and sorry for not replying earlier!

Thank you again for all the positive points you’ve listed, I’m very glad you’ve enjoyed those aspects of the hack! I feel like ToTF is very hit-or-miss, in that parts of the story are very good while others not so much, and characters are excellent while gameplay is terrible.

About the bad stuff you’ve listed, there are a lot I agree with. I blame the number of bugs and balance issues on the fact I’m doing this hack solo, and thus don’t really take much time to betatest. Also, I’m a terrible game designer I think lol. A lot of things you’ve mentioned have been fixed (Like the two locked rooms in Ch20), but there’s still some things I genuinely have no idea how to fix (Theodore being controllable even after switching sides).

As for unresolved plotlines, a lot of them (Gladioz’ fate, the artifact, the princess’ identity etc…) are directly tied to ToTF’s planned sequel, hence why they feel lacking. The other unresolved plotlines are planned for supports (Magam and Yami’s backstory especially). Please keep in mind that despite the final chapter being out for over a year now, the game is still incomplete.

And finally, about having no mount but so many characters, I just want to say that ToTF’s design philosophy is that everyone is replaceable. Sure, some classes, stats and personal skills make a few characters fulfill a niche, but the same way I purposely excluded mounts so people were free to use all the classes want without having to worry about non-optimal movement, I’ve also made a lot of characters from similar classes so you can easily replace one by the other.

Honestly, not having mounts was refreshing due largely to the community having this overblown love of horses and fliers.

Mobility is great and all but I prefer units that can actively contribute without needing either a bunch of babying or a con ring to just be useable. Hell, I don’t like the GBA Dancers solely because they can only refresh, so when some hacks give them a sword (ala most normal FE games) or magic (vision quest and a few other) or even just staff use (Deity Device and Crimson Arm) i actually use them more since if i don’t need a refresh that turn then what else are the good for?

Oh so there is a sequel coming. Awesome!

Hi thx for replying, i get its a solo hack and i have no hacking expierence of myself so i cant understad the struggle to balance not only a cast of 70+ and keeping the enemys strong too. Feel you should try the FE the last promise way were the enemy’s are defitnetly weaker than your squad but are still a threath in terms of overall strenght and maybe takes 2 units to take out in the endgame (maybe not as strong, TLP was HARD) and reduce the amount of crit focused enemy’s (just dont swarm me with them),though that might be asking too much as you might have to redesign parts or the entire level, again im no hacker, but the playable squad is just completly busted in comparison to the enemy’s, more variety in the reinforcements would be cool tho.

Bug/mistake i forgot is in chapter 19 which like Brutus, for some reason the boss Alexandra is severly weaker than even the generics and i believe is in a normal plain tile with a range weapon which doesnt help.

Also a sequel?? Count me in!

Idk why but in chapter 4, Lucy got tripled by a iron sword myrmidon in the coliseum

Yes, hello.

Chapter 5xx just happened and it broke my heart into millions of pieces. I laugh through the pain because if I don’t I’ll cry.
The way everything is built up, how it takes an obvious devolpment and still manages to land the biggest punch in the gut I’ve ever received… Masterful.

run away sobbing

Uh, I just play your game and I have something to tell you:

  • In chapter 13, in the cutscene when I finished the battle, I met the errors which made me cannot continue and I had to skip it (the time when Sylvester met his father after the fire).
  • In chapter 18, after talking with Abigail, she disappeared.

I think the chapter 13 one (although I thought it was 14…) is because you didn’t apply the update patch.

I could be wrong though what do you think @Zeldacrafter64?

Hi! I’m very sorry for the bug. If you have a save from Ch13 you can install this rom and watch the full cutscene: Dropbox - ToTF - 100% less softlocks.ups - Simplify your life

Otherwise, I can try to describe it for you, so you know what you missed.

About Abigail, this has to do with ToTF using the absolute maximum number of units the GBA can handle at a time, but I miscalculated and getting everyone by the time you start this chapter makes one of the characters disappear. This will be fixed in the next update, since I made some additional tweaks to the roster, but I have no idea when I’ll ever release it.

Thank you!
Oh, I forgot to say that in chapter 19, when I check the map or press B, it would return to the main menu.

Can you tell me which chapter has the Secret Shop? You don’t need to tell me the location. I can find it on my own.

does this feature casual?

It doesn’t.

Like the game sort of reboots itself?

The secret shop is in Chapter 19!

As for the bug with the map, I’ve heard about it but I have genuinely no idea what may be causing it… I’m very sorry to say there’s little I can do to help…

It might be linked to their emulator. Different emulators can cause their own weird mess. I used my boy and didn’t have such issues.

Thank you!
