Hello there!
Its been a little over a month so that means I now have more stuff to share!

To start with a new milestone, we now have over 90+ custom animations for the hack! I-I can’t believe I have made this many for this one silly hack. Its kind of crazy. Realistically, I think there is roughly a dozen animations left to make. In regard to animations, the end is in sight!

I am proud to announce that Chapter 10 is finished! It took several months but I can finally lay it to rest (for now). We are now full speed ahead on Chapter 11 which will take place in a certain familiar desert…

With this familiar desert comes familiar some familiar enemies from said desert, but this time without their special flying machines. I am of course talking about Twitch and Vinegar!

I don’t want to spoil why they are without their flying machines but it was fun getting to animate them on foot so I could do goofy things like Vinegar pulling out a minigun.

This serpent lady will attack with both her powerful claws and her voice! For those GBC Shantae veterans, don’t worry, it won’t track you all the way across the map. Oof.

I’ve saved the best new animation for last. After 2 painful months, the Seer Dance Fusion animation for Plink is finished!

With her, all 5 half-genies have their fusion animations done. In game, the player will have the option, similar to Shantae, to transform into these divine beings. But they are not all powerful, as they will have special weaknesses that you will need to watch out for.

To summarize all the transformations that these half genies will have access to, here is a nice little Class Tree showcasing all of them. But who knows, maybe I can sneak in a few more. (I’ll finish the spider one day…)

I saw Hatsuru do this in their Holoemblem hack so I just had to incorporate this myself. The player Phase notification has now been changed to say “Shantae Phase” along with an appropriate pallet change. Thanks for the awesome idea!

In DATonDemand’s thread, Crazy stuff you can do without asm editing in builder, I posted an entry on how to create weapon affinity icons for expanded weapon types. Well here are a few those new icons I’ve made for Shantaemblem.

While the end is in sight for completing all 14 chapters, there is still so much work left to be done. The biggest one being portraits, which I bring up each time I post. With FEE3 coming in August, I am running out of time to have them ready for my submission. I’m still exploring how I plan to get some of them made in time, but if you would like to help, as always, just let me know.

Question: Will you be going for rng growths or fixed growths for this project?

I haven’t actually considered either. I’ve been “balancing” the chapters I believe based off random growths but mainly just to know if the chapter is completable. Once I have all the chapters finished or nearly finished and open up playtesting, then I guess I can decide from there what is best.

Is this presently being worked on? This looks so good with so many custom anims, I would hate for it to be discontinued. Also i’d love to playtest it if it is.

Hello! It has been a while, hasn’t it?

I’ve been hard at work on preparing something really special for the hack, but you will have to wait till FEE3 for that. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it!

But I can’t just not have anything new to show right now. In between the big thing, I’ve been working on a few new animations for the project.

As some of you may know, a BRAND NEW Shantae game released last month, and on the GBA no less: Shantae Risky Revolution! Here is my short review: Its great! It’s a shame this game didn’t come out sooner because there are so many cool elements I would like to put in the hack. I did implement one thing from it though. Say hello to the “Ghostgal”.

Well, we don’t actually know what its called but the name fits in with all of WayForward’s other monster girl names. This spector has the ability to possess other beings. One animation is it taking possession of a player (Berserk), while the other animation is it actively possessing a unit, acting as an enemy. To demonstrate, I created a special animation using Nuramon’s Marshal to show what it looks like.

But wait, there’s more. WayForward makes more than just Shantae games. Since I want this hack to be somewhat of a celebration of their titles, I need to add in more WayForward characters. So, here is an animation for Kebako from Cat Girl without Salad.

She is a space bounty hunter and doesn’t get along with the law. Why is she in Sequin Land with Shantae and friends, well you will just have to find out later.

I’m always looking for more ways to add in more personality to the hack or incorporate more elements from the Shantae games, no matter how small. With that goal in mind, I have added in 3 of Shantae’s idle animations from across her pixelated adventures, one of which is from her most recent game.

These will play during boss conversations. I had way too much fun doing this. So much in fact that I’m adding in them for every playable character. Here are a few of them that I’ve done.

As you can see from the thread name, we also hit a big milestone. We have reached 100 custom animations for the hack! To clarify what I mean by an animation, it is an animation that takes up one of the 255 available slots in the ROM. So this does not include the neat idle animations above or the variants of the Ghostgal.

It will be some time before another update as I’m spread a bit thin. I still have commission obligations I need to get to, but the draw of my project was just too great to stay away from for too long.

But DO NOT forget to check me out during FEE3. You will definitely not want to miss it!

Is this project still not released any version to play?I’m interested in playtest this and what should I do to take part in the test?

Hello. I’m sorry to say that I do not plan on opening playtests anytime soon until all chapters have been completed and our portrait rework is finished, which most likely will not be for a while. Currently we are accepting artist help on miscellaneous tasks for those who want to contribute but that is all at the moment.

There is still so much work left to do and I want to make a strong first impression, even to playtesters. When playtests do open up, I will be sure to let you know. I appreciate your interest.

Man I heard of the 2D platformer franchise and the lore and have most of their games but haven’t played them long enough to get that feel when compared to the most of the fanbase, however I’m willing to give this another shot along with the newly romhack of this game a chance once I get myself settled. That said, I see you polishing this romhack up so keep up the good work!

Hello! Once again, it’s been a while. Don’t misconstrue it as no progress being made. I have a TON of exciting things finished and ready to share, but I thought I would save them for FEE3.

However, I want to share at least something, so take a look at this. A new and improved Rottytops! She now even comes with her iconic idle animation from the Shantae games.

Rottytops I believe was the 2nd or 3rd animation I ever did and I’ve come a long way since then. So I thought it was time that she received a much needed refresh. I also decided to make an animation for that zombie half-genie from Seven Sirens. I think her name was “Fillin the Blank?” Or was it “Ima Goodgirl?” Can’t remember, but here she is!

Here is a really small thing. I updated the mermaid animation I made to have a different dodge. The previous dodge was pretty poor so hopefully others will find this one better. I put this up over on the repo page. All the mermaid variants I’ve made have been updated.

The theme of this update was the color green haha.

To update everyone on other aspects of the project, Chapter 11’s script has been written with the chapter nearly ready to be tested, and the 4th Gaiden of the game is currently being worked on. I know it’s been over 6 months between chapters 10 and 11, but I foresee this gap shrinking going forward.

I’ll have a bunch more things to share this November at FEE3 so I’ll hopefully see you all then!
