As the Guardian Genie of Scuttle Town, Shantae’s job is to protect the town from all things monstrous and evil. The villain that constantly terrorizes the town is the beautiful lady pirate, Risky Boots, Queen of the Seven Seas! Many times has Risky invaded the small fishing town, however, this time she is nowhere to be seen. Only her minions, the short statured tinkerbat pirates, are present. Shantae learns that her Uncle Mimic, a world renowned relic hunter, is missing! Did Risky Boots kidnap Shantae’s Uncle, what is she planning to do with him, or is there a bigger player in all this?! Join Shantae and several of her friends to save the town and Sequin Land from a much larger yet familiar threat!
Sequin Land and the Islands beyond host a cast of very unique characters. While the story and personality of some of the cast we want you to explore for yourself, Here are just a few of the characters you can expect to meet along the way!

One of the unique features in the hack exclusive to our heroine is the ability to transform into various animals and creatures to overcome obstacles, solve puzzles, and help in battle. Do you need to slip through a crack in a wall to get to the other side quickly? Transform into a minuscule mouse! Do you need to traverse a body of water to dispatch hard to reach enemies? Transform into a beautiful mermaid!
As you progress through the story, you will unlock additional transformations to use! Each transformation comes with their own ups and downs to fit the situation at hand. When selecting Shantae, you will have an option to transform! Upon selecting Transform, Shantae will immediately transform into that creature, ditching her hair whipping abilities for one unique to that creature. Shantae will also be fully actionable after this and can fully transform again or revert back into a Half-Genie with no penalty.

There are a lot of things that I used or referenced to make this so I’ve done my best to compile everything I could. I know there are still things I have missed but will update this list as I see/remember things.
I want to say here that that everything I have made is F2E. I’ve used so much from other people that its only right to give back, so have at it. Although if you do end up using one of my animations, let me know. The dopamine hit is nice.

Questions + Answers
Q: Why make this?
A: I’ve been wanting to make a Shantae ROM hack for over 7-8 years. I started with a really bad reskin of a mage as a first attempt. After almost 3 years and a lot of learning later, I finally have something that I think is pretty good and I’m proud of it.
Q: Can I help or playtest?
A: YES! If you love Shantae (or are really bored) then we would love the help. What we mainly need right now are things in the art department such as portraits, UI, map sprites and midi editing. If you would like to contribute in any way, we would be happy to have you!
Q: 120+ Animations!?!
A: Yeah, its a bit excessive. None of the vanilla or community made animations would work so I had to take it in my own hands. Now many animations are reskins of community made animations to match the characters I’m going for, but there are many custom animations that I made from scratch. I think they are pretty neat.
Q: How exactly do you have an open world… in a Fire Emblem game?
A: While designing this, I wanted to keep as much of the Shantae spirit as possible, so having it be open world was a must. Between chapters, you can explore, run around, do side quests, find secret items, and go shopping! After completing a chapter, that map will be traversable, sometimes with new things added for you to discover.
Q: When can I play this?
A: We are hoping to have our first release by the end of 2026. While we are close to finishing all the chapters, there is still so much polishing left to be done. If you would like to help us get to the finish line, we would be ecstatic to have you!
**Q: What are the unconventional aspects of this ROM hack?
A: Here is a short list:
- The 12 main cast members are required to complete the game. A unit’s defeat will result in a game over. They will be deployed at all times.
- Extra characters have specific recruiting conditions but are non essential unless told otherwise.
- There is no grinding and there are no arenas. However, there are four gaiden chapters to gain additional exp.
- The chapters of the game are interconnected and can be traversed freely. However, they will not contain any enemies. You are able to complete quests or find treasure that was not gathered while playing the chapter.
- Several character’s promotions are locked behind gaiden chapters or special conditions. Only a few promotions are guaranteed.
- Gaiden chapters are timed and can only be completed between certain chapters.
- Shop locations are set and equipment can only be purchased at set locations. Shops can be visited between chapters.
