FE8 Self Randomizer [Complete v2.00] *Pick Your Edits* <Boss Recruitment> [100% Growths] |Dancers Only| <Reverse Recruitment> [0% Growths] {Oops All Lyon} <Character Crossover> [QoL Enhancements] 700+ characters - “Vanilla” Gameplay

@Aveline join my discord linked in the first post and send me your .sav file so I can fix the bug or at least get your save to somewhere stable.

If you don’t want to use discord, then upload your .sav to drive or dropbox and send me it.

I cannot fix the bug without the save file, as it doesn’t usually crash there for other saves.

I’ve put out a playtest on this new feature in my discord.

@Vinaca You can set all players to be Lyn or whoever you like now.

That looks impressive. You know you could use that feature in another hack as a limited way to make a customizable avatar unit.

Unfortunately it’s too entangled in the many self randomizer functions to be viable for use standalone. It’d mean separating thousands of lines of code from the randomizer, so it’s not something I am releasing on my asm thread. However, all my code is free to use / edit, so if someone was very determined they could theoretically use it that way. But I can’t go out of my way to have everything I make easy to use for all use cases, sorry!

This has become my new preferred way to play Stones! Quick question: You have the characters from all the other FE games in here already. How feasible would it be to have an option to swap the characters in order? E.g. I could pick FE6 and Eirika would be Roy, and all the characters after would be in the order they’re obtained in FE6.

@vcvcvc12 I’m currently working on similar features and I should be able to include a swap like that. However, character table order is not the same as recruitment order, and fe6 has more characters than fe8, so an automated sorting & filtering of characters system will likely have some minor shortcomings compared with manually making a character swap project in febuilder. But with the ability to choose whoever you like from any game for each recruitable unit, there will be many possibilities of how to play the game.

v2.00

After months of development and testing, the player now has full control over choosing characters for a run in an intuitive way. A PME is now kinda possible to do ingame, lol.

Filter characters and classes to your liking. E.g. You could do an all flier, all trainee, or all monster run.

It’ll preview who’ll become who. You can reset, reroll, or overwrite your results.

Now it’s an all Camilla run.

until I change Eirika into Jagen and give him a real Str growth.

There are too many features to go over them all in detail, but everything in the title is accurate: you can experience vanilla gameplay, recruit bosses, reverse recruitment, or easily set all characters to be Lyon as a dancer, along with many more possibilities.

I’ve also painstakingly updated the fe6 and fe7 versions to also have these features, and updated my first post in each thread.

After all this, I think I’m done with this. I’ll continue fixing any bugs that are found, and I’ll keep adding portraits made by you lovely people, but I think there are enough configurable features now. Thanks to everyone who’s contributed in some way to this massive project.

This is really cool. 2 questions,

  1. You said recruit bosses, is that a mode or just the “swap players and bosses” option
  2. (this one might be stupid) do you have a guide of what options do what? I was slightly messing around with it and it seems like swapping bosses for players doesnt take into account other FE games. I was hoping to play as the bosses from Awakening versus the heroes of it but I only got FE8 people switching.

Swap and could change the based cast into any boss and
Just press L
(No bosses from others games unless Recuitable )

It’s this

I added r-text for the options, so please refer to that first. Feel free to ask if you’re still confused. Note that the r text changes when you change a setting to explain that specific setting.

Correct. We have >700 playable characters in the game, but there isn’t art for the majority of bosses throughout the series, so they mostly aren’t included. A few bosses were thrown into the player roster for some games, though :man_shrugging:

Dlc bosses AKA bosses that are playable in some way

Ok, cool. Thank you. I did not think about pressing R and L for some reason lol.

I had a few dead starts where i was a bard and seth was a cleric lol. The fun of randomness

This is really cool! I’m absolutely loving this so far. Couple questions though, sometimes when I randomize, some characters will have extra growth rates, is there a way to turn those off? Also with the random BGM, is there a way to randomize the new music but keep it the same the entire game. It’s pretty jarring to have a new song play every new phase and battle. I’m very tired of the vanilla music but the consistency in it is why I keep it lol also can you explain Variance to me better? I don’t fully comprehend it so I’ve been leaving it at 0%.

Thank you for this amazing feat in rom hacking Vesly, you truly are a boon to this community!

Set growths setting to vanilla

Nope, sorry. I recommend turning bgm off in vanilla options and playing whatever music you like. I might add a setting to have bgm keep playing regardless of battles in the future.

40 str growth with 50% variance means you’ll have between 20 and 60 str growth. Exception is that it considers the higher of your character and class growth to randomize around. This way characters with 0 str growth like Merlinus can actually get str growth, provided the class they’re in has a str growth.

this is very cool! I will be honest, I was a little confused on how to set everything up and what stuff did (even with r-text) but I think I figured everything out lol. I am very excited to play this at work
