[FE8] Sacred Echoes [v1.1] [COMPLETE]

This is a really great demake of shadow of valentia that I wish more remake/demakes like that existed for some of the other games.
Do the ram villagers have any sort of canon class?

its funny how for the guys it’s clear cut but for the gal
it isn’t. I picked cleric though since she gets refresh

She wasn’t allowed to become her true class cause Tobin needed something to do :joy:

her true class?

In heros she is made an archer even tho in her game its physically impossible to make her an archer.

It’s either that or pegasus knight. Pegasus knight means having her stats way too balanced in a game in which every character has low growth rates, so it is better to have her as a cleric.

Just beat this, and honestly what an incredible production!!!

Big congrats and thank you to everyone who made this possible. This is an incredibly high quality demake and rom hack. The 2 OC characters were so well implemented that they felt canon to me.

The changes to the original are all brilliant and really improved the overall experience (axes for armor knights, making Jesse a thief and giving Sonya witch magic were all 10/10)

All of the sprite work for all of the character portraits are also incredible. The way the store was paced out felt really great too and honestly made it super enjoyable revisiting the world.

10/10 absolutely fantastic work.

I have a question about RNG Style before I start my playthrough. Does changing the RNG Style change the true hit rate calculations or just how hit rates are displayed? For example, if someone has a true hit rate of 80%, would setting the RNG style to GBA display a hit rate of ~70% while setting to NES display a hit rate of 80%? Or are hit rates just different between the two styles

Just posting here after I beat the game, have some initial thoughts:

Thought Barf

I’ve honestly only seen footage of Echoes, but even I can tell how well this game respects the original source material. What a love letter.

New supports are goated. So much so that I wish you could somehow access missed paired endings after grinding out all the supports again in the post map.
…please? Pretty please, can that be a thing? Like an option to replay the final chapter sequence? Or maybe the postgame boss rush ends the game like normal too? I haven’t played it yet (or found it for that matter, it doesn’t show up on the world map for me). This is definitely me coping because I can look them up in FE-Builder, but seeing the paired ending in an ending reel still hits different.

So…Snipers and Falconknights are really good in this game, though the latter might just be that Palla, Est, Catria, and Clair are amazing units even without the Slayer skill. Also, I played enough Curse of Lagdou to know how to abuse Triangle Attack so there’s that. For the former, I did use Faye as an Archer and she slaps so much harder than Tobin, who was also very decent. Might be contingent on getting good level-ups though, because I’ve seen varying turnouts for their performance (Python still sucks ass until you feed him some kills ).

Scaling feels…weird for Hard mode? I beat the final map with Tier 2 units just fine, though the game threw a lot of tier 3 units at me in the late game to where I had the recurring thought ā€œshould I grind, even if I’m killing everything?ā€ The game does give you enough tools to deal with even absurdly tanky enemies (effective weapons were a godsend), and I was lucky enough to get some insane niche juggernauts (Silque was (and still is) my best frontliner, Faye was absurdly good as a bow duelist), but I can easily see someone getting frustrated by the difficulty curve if they don’t leverage their units and tools correctly and/or get unlucky. Maybe there should be warnings about expected levels or thresholds units should meet for each map?

Every flying enemy made me feel like I was playing Doubled or Nothing. :upside_down_face:

Anyways, 10/10 production. Thanks for making this.

Just wanted to say im playing this and love it! But i chose not to level up gray or tobin right away, they are lvl 11 and about 7 now and i cannot promote them to a new class… to promote them do i have to restart and promote them at a lower level?
Thanks

nvm, i think i figured it out

hi i cant save my game, i have to use the shift + F1 key combo to save. Any help

Are you playing on an EZ Flash Omega or a save state sourced from it? If so, known, can’t do anything about it, buy an Everdrive. If you are playing on an emulator, please state which one, are you using any cheats, have you tried a different one, etc.

Would you believe this was new writing? Not a great moment, but we wanted to make both somewhat relevant in the endgame - and this was what we came up with. To be honest, for a time Conrad was going to be removed because he wasn’t in the original Gaiden, but I argued enough of a case for him to stay - but the guy really needed some wrangling to remain relevant, since in Echoes all he does is ā€œrescueā€ Celica from things she did in the original, slap her, and then fade into generic possibly-aroace obscurity warming the bench.

I really implore you before you critique the story to either play, watch or read up at least on the story of Echoes, since half your problems were in the official release, and the other half are us trying to cover up even more bizzaro worse writing (especially in Act 3 with Jedah and Celica, or… Faye’s entire character).

Could we have done better? Yes, probably. I know I’m not entirely happy with my parts in the latter half of the game, and there were things we planned to implement but ultimately didn’t or couldn’t. But by the end of it, we were getting quite physically sick from the stress, especially gamma himself.

A lot of wonderful people put their whole selves into making the best version of this game they could, a version that paid homage to the originals rather than throwing them out, and often that meant keeping a lot of the native jank. There are some more things we could have changed or rewritten to a greater extent, but this is a love letter, not a ā€œwe could do it betterā€. I hope all that play can understand that love. It was what kept the project going.

Does the issue persist in emulators like mGBA? I’ve had a look online and it seems like VBA-m can be volatile, though I can’t remember any problems previously with this game.

so which one should i use mgba or vba m

Try the one you’re not using at the moment, MGBA, load the savestate and see if you can save. Does the savestate still not save?

ok ill try

that is odd I use vba m myself and have no issue saving normally
and savestating works fine too.
