[FE8] On the Edge [5* Chapters] [COMPLETE] [GONE WRONG] [NOT CLICKBAIT]

wait, kids? i didn t even saw them in the map at all.

wait, the ones in the second map?
so i have to redo everything?

Yeah im not sure how this type of gameplay would stretch to longer game in the first place (unless you make entirely new mechanics for new puzzles), but I would like to see the characters in more regular romhack honestly (especially the “Stairs” boss. Great sprite btw).

Looking forward to see it in action when you will release the “sequel not sequel”!

No, my bad, I misremembered my own hack, sorry for spoiling a later phase :skull:. Now to where you’re at:

Hint

Use the pillars to attack Wadjet in a way that allows you to move away from her range. With your second action.

Solution

Attack while standing on a pillar. You can use your full move without caring about the extra cost of the pillar, but Wadjet will be affected by it, so she can’t reach you. You’ll need to position yourself properly in the previous turn so she follows you to the right place. It’s possible to force her in this position in her first move.

Sorry for the mistake.

Meant to respond to you.

oh ok,thanks

truly the end of all time,if i m being sincere i really liked this game

I’m liking this game so much but also I’m really stuck at the end of chapter 3 and I don’t know what are you supposed to do, there is no even boss objective for me or a key either.
If someone knows I would appreciate some info ty.

There should be a boss, no idea.

I found the problem, if any enemy unit is at the boss’s spawn point, it does not appear. In my case there was a reinforcement unit lol (I had to restart the map)

So, I just played this hack and it’s great! I love the creativity of the mechanics, the humor, the brevity and the overall flavor. I usually don’t like puzzle FE, but this one just did it for me. Chap 2 (the one with the hallway) was pretty annoying but if that was my only complaint then this hack would be a 10/10.

My problems are that this hack seems to suffer from some gamebreaking technical issues – it might’ve been a problem with my emulator (though I doubt it, since I never had a problem with any other game) but every time I tried to resume or restart a chapter, I ended up being softlocked in an endless black screen. That was already a pretty big issue since it meant I had to restart the whole game from the start when I put myself in a position I couldn’t rewind my way out of, but even more problematic was the second gamebreaking bug I encountered, which rendered the game uncompletable; at the very end of the game, when you get the sword and need to drop the techniques you have, trying to do so will just straight up crash the game no matter what. I think it’s because you need to drop an unbreakable/unsellable weapon but idk.

Did anyone else encounter these issues or was it an issue with my own setup? (ie: did I need to apply the patch to an specific version of FE8? I used the clean rom I usually use for fe hacks, so it might be worth putting a warning in the OP just in case)

Regardless, I greatly enjoyed my time with this hack, so props.

Known, common, and talked about bugs, but above my skill to fix, I’m sorry. Here are the workarounds:
For the black screen, just reset the game and you can then resume the save. This one is a skillsys bug from that version.
For the chest bug, iirc you again just need to close the game and resume at some point during the map. Maybe you also need to have died once? I don’t remember well, it’s been a while. This bug I don’t understand at all from my troubleshooting, no idea why it happens. It even has multiple different weird things it can do.
Glad you still enjoyed it.

Love the game! Can’t figure out how to beat the chapter 2 wave of reinforcements pre-bossfight…

Edit: Nevermind.

Hey, If you’re interested in seeing how the post credits thing plays out, or simply liked the hack and want to see what I’m making now, make sure to try my new WIP hack, Clock’s Ticking. Closer to traditional FE, but with a focus on a big part of the game being approachable in non linear fashion.

played this hack after someone told me there existed a hack with only 1 unit. shock and horror this hack was good. love how the game adds new challenges gradually for each chapter that keeps things fresh. even the 1v1. rivian put it best when he said it pushed boundaries.

my personal favorite was honestly ch1. none of the maps felt like such a shameless slugfest and display of power for the pc. very liberating, not many fe games can bring this sort of experience.

in terms of criticism, i wish that the map sprites for enemies corresponded to their weapon types. in any given map, there could be up to 3 different sword users, but they all used a smorgasboard of weapons. if all mercs used steel swds, and all myrms used iron, etc. it would’ve kept R buttoning to a minimum. i also just wish someone was there over your shoulder while you were writing every chapter in between the tutorial and the final to disapprovingly look over the stuff you wrote.

EDIT: sorry, watched pandan’s video about feedback.

i didn’t like the dialogue bc it already had a very strong premise, being a super tropey romp where a lone swordsman cuts down her sister. i think that when played 100% straight, these tropes are already super funny, which is why characters like kelik became so popular. i appreciate the ch3 bit where the dio-like started counting down 5 seconds, and the reveal that every turn was a second. i don’t believe that the memes added to the hack, like the ch3 boss or the entirety of ch4, were condusive to the theming. having it be played totaly straight would already let the viewer decide for themselves if they take it ironically or seriously, which i think is what the edgy lone swordsman trope works best with.
