[FE8] Fire Emblem: The Morrow's Golden Country [COMPLETE]

Here’s the character renders I did of the lords for the Project Morrow trailer—an ongoing effort to polish up TMGC’s graphics, particularly its combat animations.

Individual renders can be viewed here:

Blair

(Had to crop it since it kept showing as a .jpeg otherwise, shrugs)

Zeke

Viridian

There are also two other renders I did, but those designs are very much walking spoilers. Only click on these if you’re cool with spoilers up to endgame.

The Enigma

The Devoted

And here’s the whole lineup!

All together now

I have played the game again on lunatic and with ironman rules this time and I even reached the final chapter but then Zeke died because of a Sage whose silence status ran out without me noticing, ending the run. (I still redid and finished this map with quick warp skipping)

This run went a lot more smooth this time and besides Zeke, I only lost 6 units which all of them were easily preventable if I had paid attention more. This time I saved a lot more staves for the last maps, got the 2 secret promotions, recruited more units and actually used those items that increase and decrease growth rates (they are awesome).

Unit opinions (both runs and spoilers)

Blair: Great mage. Her biggest pro is the access to convoy which is useful because of all the tomes that I want to use at the same time. That also makes her the best Earth Power user in my opinion.

Arin: Very useful in the earlygame and still useable later on even if you miss her secret promotion. However, her early level cap makes me want to avoid her for combat soon.

Kenneth: A mage user who is also tanky? I love it! Great for Nosferatu tanking for many parts if you give him Bodyrings. That secret promotion is mostly overkill but I’m not complaining.

Natasia: Always does a lot of damage but her defense and speed aren’t anything special.

Butch, Athena, Cassius: Good combat units.

Desmond: Ok prepromote but falls off early on.

Sam, Stefan: Annoying to train. Benched them soon

Josef: Great tank for the first half but enemies get a lot stronger and capped defense isn’t gonna cut it with his terrible speed. Still does good damage.

Peggy: Good stave user but gets outclassed easily by others who additionally have great skills too.

Rachael: Difficult to train at first which made me bench her after the first half. Her flying did have great uses tho.

Jeff: A thief. Often Arin was all I needed however.

Emile: Best stave user. A fixed +1 and later +3 to all stave ranges and higher mag cap as a sage makes him have the highest range for nearly every chapter in the game. He needs help to reach capped magic but the game gives you a lot Spirit Dust and he is a good candidate for them.

Sveltzalus: Amazing. Peak. Lovely. High speed is always useful + good skills.

Zeke: Great stats. When the game gives you Stormbow, he mostly uses it as a weapon.

Hyperius: Similar to Josef but a bit more speed.

Leila: Replaces Rachael. She can get a lot of exp during Zeke’s missions. Good combat unit.

Toddsworth: Dancer.

Avan: More mov than Peggy but still no special stave skills.

Yuyu: Mostly copies Toddsworth.

Vladmir: Starts with S-Rank in light magic which is useful for Morning Star. So I start to deploy him when I get that.

Eliza: Refresh on stave use is great.

Ptolemy: Big surprise. I didn’t expect anything but then I saw that he has a ballista and promotes to wyvern.

Sonia, Tobias, Joan: Good lategame combat units.

Jonas: I thought we would get his boss version and not a very high level one. Makes going for Lazarus even more worth it.

Olsen: Kills stuff.

Valeria: Good combat unit. Having access to all Prfs is cool too.

Elcorian: Makes warp skipping the final chapter even easier.

And a tierlist (spoilers)

I haven’t started TMGC yet (on my to play list) but wanted to pass on that my friend who likes fire emblem romhacks but doesn’t care to find them himself told me it “whipped” and that I need to “keep hooking him up with that good shit” lol.

In particular he really loved the mapping.

Well, I feel there will be a DLC for this :). Classic more characters and maps and secrets and items.

Loved this hack. Characters were great, maps were fun, story was interesting and there were lots of small things that I appreciated a lot like:

Promoting gets an updated portrait! Very cool. Branching paths to give more depth and keep the game fresh. Base convos, I fucking love them. The supports were great, was happy you didn’t have to always deploy to get them!

This cracks my top 5 of FE rom hacks I’ve played. It’s up there with the likes of Dark Amulet and Vision Quest imo.

Congratulations on the great work and thank you for making this hack

Sorry if this has been asked before but is there an eta on the visual overhaul completed for this or am I dumb and have completely missed that it’s already available?

I believe the target is sometime in the first half of 2026 - that said, timing’s a bit up in the air.

Oh, fair enough. I was wanting to replay this gem but if that’s the case I’ll wait till it’s done. Can’t wait to see!

Does anyone know how you’d delete a specific support chain from this game in FEBuilder? I’m trying to do it to free up a support slot for Leila since I wasn’t paying attention to how many chains I had on her and the support chains in this game doesn’t function like normal supports and are not stored in the normal location.

Can some1 explain to me if its possible to add this reverse mode on evry gba romhack and how to do it, is it a patch or?? I would like to challenge myself by playing all romhacks with this mode where the enemies attack 1st but have no idea how to get it.

I use FEBuilderGBA + mGBA if that helps, ty

During my last run, which I have now finished (0% growths), I now noticed Yuyu’s personal skill at lvl 20 that makes all weapons brave and made my most favorite build so far:

Lvl 20 skill + Earth Power item + Copying a magic capped unit + Bolting = Nearly 100 damage per combat at a distance which also ignores enemy’s resistance because of Earth Power.

This is her exactly deleting the chapter 27 boss (with the help of a Lord’s damage bonus):

Hello! I’m playing the bonus tales, specifically Vladmir’s one, and the chapter doesn’t end, even though I talked to the “dragon” and defeated all the enemies

Is there something I’m missing here?

There’s three dragons to find. If you’re having trouble, move near the caves that’re in the mountains.

Thank you!

Can I ask if there’s any way to get to the chest on the right side of the map in chapter 3?

You have to ask about it on the thread first, and then Retina will DM you the answer.

Thank you

Hello! Long-time lurker of the forums and have been playing quite some FE hacks for some time. I just finished the hack decided to finally create an account mainly just to offer my opinion on what I consider one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with a FE game, and any game in general. So yeah, this is just one big ‘congratulations’ and ‘thank you’ to the creator and all people involved.

Plot

The story felt just right, not too simple, not too verbose. The twists at the end of Viridian’s arc destroyed me and made me have to look away from the screen, and Blair is such a compelling and nice character that following her journey was such a great experience.

Gameplay

The gameplay is FE at its best, I believe. The game hands you such a vast array of tools for you to manage as you see fit, allowing for crazy shenanigans (Sam + Aim + Biased Quiver + long-range bows + Toddsworth is probably my favorite, close second being Apollo + Apocrypha + Morning Star + Supports + S-rank in staves), and the difficulty feels just right. Mug and Jeff with high Con also made stealing weapons so much fun, and thankfully it’s balanced because otherwise would be overkill. The chapter where you fight Ethyl is probably one of my favorites maps ever, such a high-intensity battle with everything you’ve got.

Music

The music is on point, which is crazy considering just how many tracks are there! Whenever I was going to stop playing I’d start the next battle just to see which song I’d be hearing, and gosh I don’t think there was a single theme that made me think it didn’t fit the mood.

And the jewels of the crown… Oh I’ve fallen in love with these characters. The way supports were handled made them feel so much more real, making them react to the story beats, between each other… and it had a meaningful impact on them! Characters are one of the main reasons I play FE and these may very well be contenders for some of the most likeable and enjoyable characters I’ve had the pleasure of commanding.

Final team

Blair: what a nice, feel-good, grounded and enjoyable cutie-patootie of a lord. I love her. Doesn’t help that she’s a beast too.

Arin: benched her during the midgame and re-deployed her once I realized how cute she and Blair are together. I didn’t know if they would end up together but I’m so happy they did. Love my lesbians. She’s been stealing and supporting mostly but did a good job overall. Yeah, missed her promo.

Zeke: promoted quite late to my tastes, but once he did, he served well. Gave him the S-rank bow and kept killing everything that Sam couldn’t. Not too big on him as a character but was okay at worst.

Sam: my GOAT. Being able to act 3 times in a single turn and crit enemies from 10+ tiles away? Absolutely broken skill but so fun to use. At first I thought she wouldn’t deserve many resources with her shaky strength, but oh boy was I proven wrong fast. Also she’s got a compelling development arc with Josef which makes her even more likeable.

Kenneth: I just found out he could promote. Oh boy he was already a killing machine like this, and he could be even better? I love me a tanky mage.

Hilbert: did I mention I love tanky mages? Such a good user of Earth Power, I love x4 Thunder. Also love his supports with Jeff, Kenneth and Josef, such a nice kid.

Alexis: my other GOAT. Equipped her with the Danger Pick, one sword and a lance, then Ardent March and Angel Wings and I’ve got someone who can walk 15 tiles, kill or weaken someone, and come back practically unharmed. Also I love purple and she’s neat. I also love armors

Rachael: the True Saunion, the Shockstick and the extended range item made her able to target Def or Res whenever she fancied. She was a bit hard to train at first but then she didn’t disappoint.

Cassius: probably my least used Paladin of the final team but he did a good job overall.

Stefan: he was always on the team, never was the best, never the worst, but always did a good job.

Ptolemy: I’m a sucker for Est units, didn’t know if he or Johan were one so I trained both and got pleasantly surprised by how fun to use were his renewable bows, his dynamic with Johan, and the fact he went from armor to a wyvern. Also he’s such a sweet guy.

Johan: I knew I had to use him to enact revenge for what they did to him, and he started capping one stat after the other and was unstoppable. Felt really bad for him when I noticed his portrait brightened up after being freed. His whole ordeal made the ending with Ptolemy feel so much rewarding.

Mikey: like Stefan, he always did a good job.

Leila: gave her the S-rank sword from Liam and the Iron Rune and made her kill whatever enemy the rest couldn’t finish. A mixed-defense Pegasus is not something you usually see but she’s worked flawlessly. Also, an 8-attack support bonus with Rachael? Oh my.

Toddsworth: I don’t generally like narcissistic, pompous characters but he’s the bard, so he’s automatically good.

Apollo: fed him staves so he could get that rank as high as possible and crit everything from anywhere in the map with Morning Star and Apocrypha. So much fun to use.

Josef: felt great early on but ended up falling off when his defense wasn’t enough to keep up with the damage from enemies. Still, a solid Master lance user.

Natasia: her lack of defense and speed held her back but the Brave Axes and Longbows helped her through.

Laronde: thought of not using him at first, but… great sprites, great growths, great positioning skills (Swarp is such a godsend) and he’s in dire need of revenge after his sister couldn’t make it. My man deserves the best and he didn’t ever disappoint.

Sveltzalus: who would have thought that the funny eye guy was so amazing? A flying dark mage with great magic and speed, unlimited uses, great skills and able to use Freikugel to get extra turns and then return safely with Canto+.

Jeff: barely saw combat after certain chapter, but he got so many Body Rings he got jacked and was able to steal refreshing weapons, greatbows, all kinds of staves… And he’s got a nice character growth with Hilbert and Blair.

I played blind and didn’t realize how many secrets I left unchecked, so I’ll let it rest a little and then I’ll be back at it. It’s been such a blast I don’t mind giving it a replay soonish, this time on Lunatic. As I said earlier, thank you so much for creating this lovely hack! It was such a pleasure to experience it, and look forward to whatever y’all have in store for the (glorious) future!

PS: I got pics of my endgame units but don’t know how to post them in the comment :frowning:
