Would no$gba work fine with this?
How the hell do you promote Ian? I got him to max level (18) on chapter 26 and he cant use promotion items, and doesn’t auto promote on next chapter start.
You don’t. That’s the joke.
Hello Retina! I’m certain this message will find you well (threat).
I just finished TMGC today (literally today, or whenever you read this. wait, actually make it whenever you have time to read this to make for continuity), and wanted to share my thoughts about the game on this page. This coming from an expert whose own romhack is at a whopping 10% of completion (if percentages even are real, otherwise make it like, idk, 2%? anyway who cares)
For those of you reading and haven’t completed the game keep in mind I’ll write spoilers here there’s your warning three two one:
The Cast
It’s so rare to find a game where you love literally every character thrown at you, yet here we are. The roster in this game is super varied, everyone has their own quirk and peculiarity that makes them enjoyable both as characters and as units, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s definitely excessive but I was pissed (me when I’m pissed) when I could only bring 20 people to the final chapter like wdym??? that’s too little. let me bring uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh zacharias and damien and laronde and rose and eliza too the hell? i dont understand. yes btw i completed this game on Hard because I’ve baby hands and refuse to stress myself with Lunatic but I definitely will do it anyway because I abhor the idea of existing
Favorites were definitely Blair, Arin, Sam and Cassius. Have I mentioned I’m married to Cassius? yes. its real and its completely legal. somebody married miku hatsune in japan, let a man live his dream wont you? but I digress. I also adored Damien and Zacharias, shame I didn’t have space for them in the end because as I said, the initial cast is so likeable so effortlessly you just want them in your final team.
My Viridian savees were Estelle (love my bow cavs), Rose (Galewinds and no tbh shes cool. i love her), and Eliza (Powerstaff?? welcome to the team. proceeds to not bring her to the final team). I threw every single unique item I’d gotten at them because I figured they’d come back with their inventories intact and my girls did NOT disappoint.
Story
I would categorize (me when I categorize) the plot as your usual Fire Emblem story- and I don’t mean that in a bad way. It’s a bunch of noble houses acting in the shadows, plotting against their detractors and slowly rising to gain the power and influence they need to attempt controlling the world.
Overall, the flow and pace were comprehensible and easy to follow. It’s a story about politics, power dynamics, adventure, evil experiments… your classic Fire Emblem plot, just well executed unlike the plot in FE7. Even the antagonists had a bit of sensible reasoning behind their actions, even if entirely wrong and god-complex-like.
I truly loved seeing Blair develop into this vociferous, courageous, protective and audacious lord. My girl went from having to calm herself in her first battle, to leading a small battalion straight into the most powerful kingdom in Ulmaron, love that for her. Elcorian was a fascinating character to explore as well, shame he ended up as he did.
I guess if I had a bit of a nitpick here is: I wish we’d been explicitly told what happened to Blair’s father. I followed the plot pretty attentively, so what I got was something about him outright rejecting Girard’s actions and, as a major detractor, mister Arbordia got him removed/exiled. But I wish we’d at least been told what was of him afterwards, unless I missed something. Blair, too, seems rather intent on denying him (as per her quote when confronting Girard in March To Arbordia), which was a bit shocking to me. Was there some kind of aggression towards her? Considering he condemned the experiments, you’d think she would voice out her support. But then again, maybe I’m confused? In which case you can ignore this whole entire part
Gameplay
I honestly believe this FE to be pretty favorable to all audiences. My playstyle is mostly Juggernauting- throwing a couple overpowered peeps at my enemies, making a path, and having the “weaker units” do away with the remaining enemies. However, since there is plenty of move tech, this game is also friendly with LTC’ers, or simply more methodical strategists.
Can I also thank you for not implementing anti-turtling? At least not as heavily as other games. The reinforcements felt fair and short-lived. Strong, but not entirely impossible to hold off. I hate anti-turtling, it’s the equivalent of physically pushing somebody IRL to me- just let people play your game at whatever pace they please.
I loved the way skills were implemented here as well- at least those that could be selected directly through menus- Aether, Sol, Ignis, Astra, Luna, etc. It removes the unreliable factor of luck, making them more strategy-based, demanding a slight drawback in return. Luna was HUGE on Kenneth for me, considering mine really decided not to level up his Speed stat. There were other pretty cool abilities such as Shroud (Barrier and Pure Water also grant AS), which is incredibly creative, and Resonance (Grants unit’s MAG/2 stat to adjacent allies as extra damage), which Emile wore like a badge of honor during Catharsis.
Plenty of dynamic tools as well, such as the self-repairing weapons (Force Spike, Danger Pick, Morning Glory, etc.), and accessories with cool bonuses- Apocrypha was HUGE on Apollo, and Earth Power on Emile? It finally makes him viable to solo a couple enemies. I taught mine Light Magic so he’d go wreak havoc with Resires- also, access to both Bolting AND Purge? Big epic. I would also like to announce I’ve built an altar for Sam in my room- what a freaking GOATED unit. Absolutely despicable- bows are superb weapons in this game, and her Aim skill, combined with Biased Quiver… she becomes a menace. Mine was, without a shadow of a doubt, the MVP of my run. Gave her the Ankle Weight early to boost her STR even more and boy, once she got Passacaglia, my girl was READY. I cannot believe some people here would say she’s the inferior Archer of the game considering her great bases, she doubles everything, her STR can be fixed early, and she also has the advantage of time. Love my girl Sam, an absolute beast.
Literally just my opinion
Ok, so a couple nitpicks? Overall the game is pretty solid and I would absolutely LOVE to play again, but there are a couple points I’d like to address. DISCLAIMER, I’ve read the Bonus content in the Extras section, and I truly appreciate yourself and your team coming clean about the many inspirations and processes to make this game a reality, as well as some things you weren’t entirely sold on. Okay, with that preamble, here’s a couple peeves of mine:
-
Zeke. Again, I appreciate you talking about how you felt unconvinced of his relevance in the story. Personally, he felt… like any other unit, to me. He didn’t come off as impactful enough to deserve some kind of honorable mention- if anything, he was mostly a burden to me; I don’t want to bring him to every single map after the parties merge. I wanted that spot for Damien, and was instead stuck with this dude- fine, I’ll train him in bows. Mine actually hit S-rank in bows before any other weapon because I legit wanted another archer. Ultimately he was useful, gameplay wise (incoming Ineubrenos recipient), but story-wise… I would actually say he even bogged Blair’s development, because he was constantly whining and complaining about how he didn’t feel enough. This really showed in their interaction after Viridian’s passing: it was honestly a GOLDEN opportunity for Blair to acknowledge the weight of the war, re-evaluate her feelings, and further analyze her strategy. Instead, he sabotaged the scene and made it all about himself, once again beating his own character. Gosh, I wanted to strangle him during this part.
-
Viridian. For the most part, both side-stories were a bit of a drag for me: I was already so invested in Blair and wanted to see what was next, and was hit with these bozos. I will say however, they are an interesting bunch, at least. I would honestly say it’s the timing for this one- we’re about to hit the climax of the main plot, and suddenly, we’re side-tracked with a different party. Now, I get it, they actually have some relevance in the story and again, I appreciate it, but… the timing. I zombie’d through all these chapters because I just wanted to go on with Blair’s side. Maaaaybe if we’d seen them periodically as the plot progressed, I would’ve loved this part more. Oh, well.
Final thoughts
Overall, looooooooved this game. The music was so on point- I’m not like, a super ultra hyper invested SMT fan, but I sure love the franchise, and all these arrangements tugged at my heartstrings. Honorable mention to Clash of Calamity (actually listening to it as I write this whole thing), for being the ultimate banger. The maps were beautiful as well, and loved how short they were- not short in an incomplete sense, but rather, short as in, they are straight to the point, sense. The pacing of the story was good and easy to follow, the characters were great, and pretty fun mechanics. 8.5/10 if not for the little nitpicks I mentioned.
Definitely recommend. Again, it has a little bit for everyone. It is a somewhat long campaign, but it’s worth your time. Loved the portraits as well, and especially the fact they change after promoting your units. It’s the little things, man.
Well, what can I say. All of the future isn’t the responsibility of a single day.
Loved that one, actually.
Anyhow- thank you for reading! Actually wrote this whole thing while working a graveyard shift, best hour I’ve ever invested in this hotel. Hope your team and yourself are having a good one! ![]()
Hi retina its me wing gaster
So! We’ve just completed this one. Reverse Mode, which we didn’t know what it was upon selecting it, the entire main game. Lunatic for a strong majority of the main game. Post game, we opted against Reverse and turned on WTA/Triangle Push forgetting what it was upon selection.
Many thanks for the effort involved.
We think we completed the postgame, but the game hinted at one more loose end after Bonus Map 12 starring Nathaniel. We dug around the selection screen to no avail, so unless we hear otherwise we’ll assume that’s it.
So… I managed to save Cod, but I can’t escape? What’s up, does he have to die first?
Music lists?
The journey upon the Golden Country does not end yet. Soon, those unfavored by the initial telling of history shall shine with the fury of tomorrow.
Watch now.

Whoa! Text went by too quickly, what is this new project exactly?
It’s fundamentally a major update featuring a huge assortment of new personal animations for much of the cast. There might also be minor changes and fixes to gameplay, but it is largely an aesthetic overhaul, so people who haven’t yet played don’t necessarily need to hold out for the update out of fear of mechanics being changed or maps being added.
I finished the game on hard mode! It was challenging in soooo many places, and the units were really fun. My only major complaint is when the game decided suddenly that you had to field units to see their support convos, I feel like a missed a lot of character connections that I wanted to see blossom more.

Figure I will talk about my final team here!
Summary
B:174 W:106 Items: Apocrypha / Notable Weapons: Opistus, Hopesinger, Morningstar
Blair was offline for most of the run, but after using two Arms Scrolls on her, she finally came online. She would purge and Morningstar nuke enemies from across the map safely, and anyone that came close got Opistus destroyed by her giant crit rate.
B:107 W:81 Notable Weapons: SoulBow
Zeke ended up being rather weak and unreliable on the front lines. I mostly used Master Bow on him since it allowed him to safely poke. Leveling him in his intro chapters was really fun, but goddddd he stayed level 20 unpromoted when others were already 5-10 levels into promotions already for sooooo long, it was miserable.
B:316 W:101 Items: Earth Power, Angel Wings, Knight Ring / Notable Weapons: Flare, Fimbulvetr
Hilbert is the absolute goat! I saw that it was a 14 year old child soldier and knew I had my ace. He reached Sage on his join chapter by farming against the boss. He was my main tank and solo-er for most of the game. He is always so reliable. The Earth power made Fimbulvetr an outstanding tank tool, and Flare was a guaranteed crit for insta kills.
B:197 W:157 Items: Biased Quiver / Notable Weapons: Ineubrenos, Stormbow, Passacaglia
Sam is ALSO the goat. But totally unintentionally! Her aim skill, along with the incredibly long distance bows, made her the ultimate safety killer. Toddsworth almost never left her side so she could constantly aim and shoot same turn. Getting the Biased Quiver allowed her to get 3 kills per turn, or two aimed kills a turn, it was insane. I ended up having her kill her brother with a very lucky crit with the bow he had JUST given her, it was one of my favorite moments of the hack.
B:217 W:115 Items: Real Last Shield / Notable Weapons: Brave Axe, Sword, and Lance
Alexis is a unit I knew I wanted the moment I saw her. One of the few “Galeforce” units. I’m also a huuuge sucker for female armor knights. She could tank and clear entire sections of the map by herself, even though her stats weren’t the best. She also had mad crits, despite not being a crit unit??? I was truly baffled by how many 14-24 range crits she fully landed.
B:48 W:39 Items: Odium Gauntlet, Foundation / Notable Weapons: Arkhinal, Danger Pick
Dean is such a sweet man, I loved his interactions with the siblings. I had him replace Natasia (B115 W76) after his rejoining chapter. The Odium Gauntlet/Danger Pick combo is very very potent and strong, It did 100+ damage all the time. Love his mustache, wish I could have used him more.
Elcorian was used as a damage buff bot, to give 16+2 damage to whoever he stood next to for the final chapter, usually Blair, as well as using berserk to help thin the final herd.
I had Eliza replace Peggy, since using staff two times a turn made her two times a better unit. She also didn’t have Peggy’s ragebait skill downside, and had much, much, much more def and res than Peggy ended up having. I ended up having her slaughter the simulacrum of her brother.
B:97 W:70 Notable Weapons: Pholantis, Cutlad
Flynn is textbook too strong, yet weak, to actually use. He easily got 100% crit, but he couldn’t take two hits, so he rarely got to actually kill enemies. I really really wish I could have used him more.
B:73 W:66 Items:Soul Hilt, Memento
The better Flynn. I didn’t want to use him, but he was too good to pass up. He comes with an unbreakable weapon that I named “Oblivion”, and later a summon by the same name, that is absolutely god tier at end game for how strong it is. The soul hilt was basically made for him for sure. I had him kill the treacherous snake Simone, which seemed a fitting end.
B:149 W:93 Notable Weapons: Main Gauche
I loved Jeff, he was the guy I fed the most items to, and he became a dodge tank for some very important maps. With all the constitution rings I fed him, I bet he is jacked as hell. It was really heartwarming to give him a lot of luck, and I enjoyed his supports with Hilbert.
B:107 W:70 Items: Iron Rune, Zorya Shield / Notable Weapons: Kill Sword, Flame Sword
I really enjoyed Leila’s personality, and she had really strong growths before her promotion, but she unfortunately couldn’t keep up with my other units. If it wasn’t for the kill sword, she would have fell off completely. I really wish she had more supports with her father, it seemed to fall off really quickly.
B:98 W:66 L:1 Items: Iron Rune / Notable Weapons: Nuiusseon, Brave Lance
I really wanted to use Mikey more because I love Halberdiers so much, but he suffered the same fate as my axe user, low movement. I don’t think I got to use his ever useful Luna even once.
B:35 W:22
Let’s bee real here, Ptolemy just joined far too late. She wasn’t able to bee the best she could bee because of it. Her skill and beellista would be godtier if she had the chance to use them earlier in the story.
B:110 W:75 Notable Weapons: Runesword, Brave Sword
Stefan’s adept ability kept him off the bench, even though I despise him and his stupid face and his god awful horrible growths. At least his only important stat, Str finally capped in the final hour. Unlocking the ability for it to not cost extra durability just made him even better.
B:82 W:58
Sveltzalus was a really good unit! The airwalk combined with his easy to use skills made him a really reliable backup unit to have around, even if he didn’t win many fights on his own. Infinite use weapons are also a must have for saving money, and he surely provided.
Items: Leg Ring
My man Todd! Guy stuck to Sam like glue, and did his job spectacularly. This man is the bomb, truly. Could have grown more in def and res, might have been worthwhile to avoid leveling him until he has access to the wardwood.
Notable Weapons:Hurlbat, Partisan, Stalwart, Frontier Justice, Unyielding
Another unit that would have been super fun to use if we had just gotten them earlier. She mostly came in to hurl Hurlbat at things, and that’s it.
B:55 W:50 Items: Iron Rune, Soaring Shaft / Notable Weapons: True Saunion, High Roller
Wilhelm is a boss foreal, I wish I had more of a chance to use him. With the Soaring Shaft and 100000 gold, he was a 100 crit sniper. I imagine him using True Saunion from a billion tiles away is like that scene from the anime Seven Deadly Sins where a knight hurls a javelin from a castle to a faraway town with deadly accuracy.
B:67 W:38 Notable Weapons: Sagittae, Starfall, Bolting
Yuyu is just Hilbert again, but blue. She was outstanding because Hilbert is outstanding. She is the only unit to actually make use of the Duck and Hammerne, and she was super fun to train to 20 for that INSANE double lion skill, making her an insane powerhouse.
ohhhh idk why I thought it was another project lol thanks for clearing that up.
Oh wow the trailer is so cool ! Can’t wait to see it in game ![]()
damn now i kinda wanna wait but i feel like it might be worth finishing my current playthrough and doing another once this drops ![]()
I’ve played TMGC for the last couple of days and finished it today on lunatic (with savestates tho) and it is simply amazing. Not kidding, if I ranked it alongside all the official Fire Emblem games it would be my 2nd favorite. I only find Engage better. And I’d put it in my top 15 games of all time.
Story
I really liked the story. It’s quite simple like Fe8 but that’s not a bad thing. What I also liked is how a lot of your units were effected by the villains actions which also created some nice boss dialogue.
Gameplay
The maps and enemies are just peak Fire Emblem especially in the last few chapters, where both you and the enemies have so many different and extremely strong weapons (and special items like Earth Power). And while enemies have those strong weapons, they don’t have a million skills which I prefer.
My favorite map is easily chapter 26 and it’s my new favorite Fe map. It even beat Engage’s chapter 17. The map is really interesting if you can’t steamroll the map but still have to deal with the mages. I’ve never depended so much on staff utility before and it was the first time I used berserk seriously and not just for fun.
What I didn’t like that much was the mid-part when you start promoting your first units because it becomes like Fe7 and 8 where most enemies are just cannon fodder and filler.
Random specific stuff (has spoilers)
“Zanza the Divine“ from Xenoblade is an oddly fitting track for battle preparations.
I was really happy to hear Uncontrollable from Xenoblade X (my favorite game) in the final chapter. At first, I didn’t know where it belonged to but still could “predict“ the music and when I finally recognized it as such I was happily surprised.
The one and only enemy group spawning that I really disliked were the multiple bishops at the final chapters at the bottom with huge range Morning Star + Apocrypha. They can cause a lot of frustrations during the first time especially when you can’t easily deal with them (with like silence) when they are so far away but can still kill your low res units with ease.
I think I found a weird bug. Sam was level 20 the promo and she was supposed to have ready aim, I checked before starting the chapter it was there and I used it at the beginning of the chapter. The I did a reset due to some misc reasons and when I came back it was gone.
Some YouTuber I’ve never heard of (@danidoyle) showed up in my algorithm and said that this is the greatest ROM hack of all time. So, I guess I’ll try it out.
Oh yeah, saw her thumbnail and title for this too and that made me decide to play it. Pretty high praise to say it’s “the best fire emblem will ever be”
oh holy macaroni
