[FE8] Fire Emblem: The Morrow's Golden Country [COMPLETE]

The growth rates modifier still don’t work on fixed mode?

why should they fixed mode means the growth are fixed and so modifiers can’t change that.

I think you’re referring to things like weapon and unit points?

I seem to have accidentally duped the Creator when defeating elcorian

Lol so much for all that nonsense Arbordia had to say about it being a one of a kind lol

As someone who enjoyed the Black Knight Burger King, I do feel compelled to talk about this hack.

TLDR: Amazing and replayable hack. Maybe a few narrative/character nitpicks but definitely recommend.

Gameplay: 10/10 (be prepared to go to rehab)

This hack just gives you everything! You want to use an arena and get crazy amount of stat boosters? Go for it! Worried that stat stacked units won’t stand out? Don’t worry. Each unit has his/her/their own unique personal skills. Even, there’s crazy ideas like ones that give any unit flight! Also, there are a lot of fun objectives like taking down certain units before they use a specific spell or advancing to a fortress in a specific order. And if you go for new game+, knock yourself out with animus seals for whacky/fun builds like Axe Paladin Sam or Dracopope Hilbert!

Seriously, this is one of the few hacks where I have been relentlessly addicted to!

Also, I want to give special props to MageHero for the secrets, as it made the game a lot more enjoyable. And yes, there were frustrating moments when I missed her certain secrets like the axe handle. But hey, you know you made a great hack when redoing the levels doesn’t feel like a chore.

Art/Music: 9/10 (there are bangers!)

Every level has its own unique theme, which is pretty cool. Now, I am not a fan of every music. But there are certified bangers, which makes me want to use the jukebox feature from new game+.

As for the art, I am very glad that the new patch cleaned up the unit portraits. Most of them looked great. Even Ptolemy, your lovable “freckled nerd”, looked pretty awesome. Also, I really liked how Rose looked similar to Laronade.

Story: 9/10 (amazing plot, but a few missing narrative points)

I really do enjoy the world building and plot twist of the conspiracy. However, one of my main critiques is that it would be nice to see what Blair’s dad, Aerolyn has done to trigger Girard to pursue his ambitions. While I appreciate how the intros for Act 5 provide additional context, it would have been nice to see how those two characters have fought/interacted.

Also, with the Cid/Esme dynamic, it would have been nice to see how Cid was “ruthless” and how Esme descended into forgoing her duty to become a bandit lord. Overall, there are a few nitpicks, but the story overall was enjoyable.

Finally, I would have really liked to know why Zeke had been moved to Holanis. Simply saying “we will never know” doesn’t help and severely weakens his character (more on that).

Characters: 8/10 (great characters, but some could be better)

First, I do enjoy that Retina’s humorous charm is still in this hack even if toned down. There are a few strong characters like Blair who started from a meek minor lord to a strong woman who is willing to stand up against her Dalst former bosses and Viridian (horary for a transgender lord!) who had a pretty heartwarming dynamic yet sad and extremely disturbing fate. Also, gotta give special props to Arin and Kenneth for having their own fun story arcs. I definitely enjoyed how the final levels used the former bosses including Bobert as a Simulacrum. But there was definitely a missed opportunity in cementing Ciraweiss as Blair’s foil (we dont see many interactions/comparisons between them)

While I appreciate how this hack goes into teenage trauma such as abandonment, unethical experimentation, and toxic family dynamics, I think the tone of this hack can be pretty depressing without a motivational character. Now, there are a few leadership characters such as Cid, Hyperius, Vladimir, Sonia/Joan, and Desmond.

Cid was fine and a great motivator for Blair’s growth. Hyperius was fine, but he felt more like an advisor to Zeke and could not do much for Zeke’s arc (more on that later). Vladimir feels more like a Wendell, which is fine, but his influence is impactful towards Optisus. Sonia/Joan were pretty cool, but their interaction is more limited to Y’gstra and their confrontation against Tarquin.

Now, for Desmond, I think it’s nice to have a leader who is a bit more compassionate and willing to express emotions. But my biggest problem with Desmond is that he doesn’t have any “strong, leadership” qualities. Sure, I understand he is going through a lot with the disappearance of his soldiers and Juri. But a true leadership should be able to motivate those around regardless of how they feel. I think a perfect example of a FE leader who expresses vulnerability would be Titania. She has that parental trait, as Desmond has. But unlike Desmond, Titania demonstrates her leadership quality by rallying behind Ike and continuing to keep the mercenary group together even when she lost someone she loved, Greil. I would have really liked Desmond to give that “memorable/motivational” speech he had for his soldiers especially the traumatized Johan.

Last but not least, Zeke had a lot of story potential as the lost prince who chose to make his kingdom into a democratic republic. The main issue is with Zeke is that he always expresses doubts, which basically overlaps Blair’s role as the timid lord. Sure, Blair is more like the older sister in this relationship, but I feel that does not give Zeke much room for his own story arc. Sure, you can argue his supports such as Cassius may compel to pursue a democracy. But I think a golden opportunity was missed when Zeke sees how much his kingdom was in despair when Brandl was in grief. For example, there could have been a level when Zeke sees how some honest working people resort to banditry due to corruption or lack of sufficient security. Overall, I feel that Zeke’s story arc is pretty patchy and missing some connective story points.

The Elephant in the Room: 0/10 jk jk. Hope you hear me out

I won’t lie. Even though I profess to be an ally for transgender rights, I was definitely confused by a lot of “them” pronouns, which actually made me not want to play the game for a bit. I will admit that this is just my micro-aggressions as a cis-gender heterosexual who needed time/context to understand the pronoun usage.

I understand how toxic the culture war has become especially when the country I live in is filled with such hate. Hell, I even have adopted pronouns on my personal profile. When you read my experience, I humbly hope you would see how empathy will come, and how there are people out who are willing to challenge themselves and be more accepting in this ever-changing world. As always, transgender rights are human rights, and God loves all of His children regardless of gender.

If you look up MageHero’s post on this thread, youll see some secret promotions. But make sure you let Kenneth land the final blow to Tarquin.

As for one more secret, to get Arkhinal, make sure you beat the dragon in Ch12 and lockpick the door behind it. Then, go to the house in ch. 21x

Edit: Should be MageHero

This a character you can get? Cuz I think I missed them lol

Alexis has to be one of the most fun units I’ve ever used. Also Esme has such a beautiful portrait. I wish she was recruitable :sob:

Don’t mean to shill outside the skilling forum, but we’re going live with Morrow very soon. We’re in the early game. So grab your most dapper custom, and get on in here.
