[FE8] [Complete] The Shadow of Dawn v1.4 (09/05/2025)

The final game will be called The Tyranny of Light. Although, ‘From the Ashes’ fits, too!

Once the ending cards are finished, there is only eternal darkness. Nothing after that

Okay, honestly, it’s been like 30 seconds since I posted initially, but I really feel like I didn’t talk enough about how much I enjoyed this. It was truly a fantastic experience, from the writing to the gameplay to Walter existing (I love him as character and unit), I had so much fun. It’s almost like my experience with Bound Destiny. Really just thank you for making these.

So two things, one, I called it that because I didn’t even know if there was gonna be another one and I just assumed. Two, based on the ending of this game and who is likely the main character of the next, it could have multiple meanings.

Possible Spoiler

so does Jarnathan ever get real role? Like he was an NPC in the first game and i don’t think I saw him in the second game. Will he appear in the next installment?

Walter is so precious he must be protected like Anya from SpyxFamily and Bojii from Ranking of Kings lol

Jarnathan will return for the final game

I like how a character that is insignificant at some point may become relevant later. And speaking of which what about Catrine? In Hilda’s support with Isaac, it is implied that, even though they’ll never see each other again, both of them have an important role to play in the future. So, Vorg, will WE see Catrine again?

Catrine, too, will return in the final game

Favorite NPC and I have zero reasoning as to why but for some reason….I just do lol

Replayed the game again (or rather, restarted the run to pick up someone I missed the first go around).

Finished it today, and…

Thoughts:

I was not expecting that ending. Prophecy is cruel…

Managed to maximize romantic supports though. Yay!

Went through the support room stuff and I have to wonder…

Tancred’s A-Support with Issac, and then his trip up north in his solo ending make me… uneasy. Especially since he took Shiela with him… and Edgar’s son.

If you want to kill a God…

His A-Support with Mehran is infinitely better- but somehow, even with a clear goal in mind, I don’t think he’s exactly heading there…

Serut and Tancred’s one is the one that shocked me the most.

The God of Bloodshed was, if I’m correct, once known as the God of War. But he did something, something that resulted in his eternal exile, and becoming known thereon as the God of Bloodshed.

Something happened with a grand sacrifice. Something to do with the Thirteenth God…

It reads to me like someone deliberately took those pages out and scratched out the name for nefarious ends… the question is, why? (Maybe for the sake of the God of Bloodshed…?)

Elanora’s fate makes me… curious. I have to wonder, is she as loyalist as she seems?

Anyways, looking super forward to the grand finale!

Finished this hack after playing both this and the first one back to back. I think the first one was pretty easy all around, and this one was much harder in the mid game but the late game was actually easier than the first. I’m not sure why, because I think overall the cast of the first had much stronger units. Hilda really took a hit compared to how bonkers she was in the first game, although I think my original Hilda was absurdly blessed as well. Darin is the goat for sure though, he completely carried Cassandras squad through the mid game.

Storywise I was pretty shocked by the ending. Desserine getting sacrificed was not surprising at all, but I really didn’t expect Edric to just run in and die. Shorn just not knowing anything even at the end of the game seems a little insane to me though. Deranged goddess spends 3 years taking over most of the world and them still having no clue is really hard to believe. The end setup really feels like eleanora is gonna be a huge hero in the third game. My main takeaway though is I feel bad for Maryam being stuck with a complete moron like Sevran. She’s definitely stuck with him because Theodora deserves better than a bastard who ditched her like that. I honestly almost hate Sevran more than Madelina, because at least she’s obviously just super insane. Sevran is kind of a believeable level of complete idiot bastard in comparison.

As for characters I like, most of radahns squad is really cool. Love Lysa and Walter especially. Really love Darin and Ezra as well.

I guess I might as well talk about the first game as well since I never posted over there. The units that you get in that one are completely bonkers. Leandra late game was just one rounding everything with her siege tome, so I understand why you didn’t give us any siege tomes for this one. Hilda and Rivkah were both completely insane as well. As was Elyse, but I think that was intentional. Leandra especially struck me as more of a freak accident since a lot of the late game enemies were really slow.

I had a great time with both hacks, and I’ll definitely play the final one whenever it comes out. I really hope Leandra and Catrine come back for that one, as well as Julia and Harlan.

I would just like to say, The Dark Amulet and The Shadow of Dawn are the best hacks I’ve ever played. Truly unbelievable. The writing has just been superb across the board. You really made me care about these characters- so much so that I felt the deaths and the danger every time. I legitimately got hyped when Julia knighted Harlan in the first game, for example. The only thing I can remember that actually made me feel this way was Game of Thrones. I have to say, after finishing both, I consider the top 3 games I’ve played in 2025 to have been The Dark Amulet, TSOD, and Expedition 33. Pretty crazy. This story you’ve created is really special.

Fantastic work. Completely above and beyond. I can’t wait for the next one.

I just noticed this was posted! Looking forward to giving it a go with how much I enjoyed Dark Amulet last year.

Ain’t no way  . I told you before, man, but your work ethic is insane.

This is the sequel of the game, in which in epilogue green unit turned red? What a cool concept, I don’t remember much of the story anymore, but that scene was cool. Just started and it hits hard, game balanced around hard and normal is for relaxed gameplay, huh? For me prologue was too much, had to lower to normal. For a prologue it’s a bit too difficult to my taste, but if it foreshadows following chapters difficulty, maybe it’s better to accept that normal would be challenging enough.
