Glad you liked the games, Draygan! The angels of the Sun Goddess are not inherently evil. In fact I wouldn’t even call the angels of the Sleeping God / God of Bloodshed in TDA evil (the monsters you fight in that game). Angels don’t have free will - they are physical manifestations of divine will. The angels / monsters in TDA obey the wielder of the Dark Amulet, and are driven to feast on blood because that is the will of the Sleeping God. The angels in TSOD are being controlled by the holder of Apotheosis, and obey her will completely. Usually, they obey the Sun Goddess. So, in short: nice God means nice angels. The Gods are usually nice, but they’re also usually asleep and don’t get into the affairs of mortals at all.
the final chapter of Dark Amulet is where I struggled on hard mode. The turn limit just felt a bit too low. Had to cheese with Warp Staff and dumped my stat boosters into Edric to have him solo Zeddard and the plateau he as on. Then Warp cheese Julia into grab the spell, ten Warp cheese back to God Zeddard xD
If it works, then it works! ![]()
unfortunately i struggled even before that, not to the point that i wouldn’t be able to complete the chapters at all but i wasn’t being able to save some characters and that just… doesn’t feel nice to me, so sadly i wasn’t able to finish it. thankfully the TSoD gameplay was way smoother (even though there’s multiple sides and you couldn’t choose the characters or even guess what was to come), most things felt like a good surprise and i even got to understand most of the TDA story through the sequel, the game was a big upgrade
My TDA strat was using every Siege tome use i still had
. The Part 2 of the map almost gave me a heart attack but i managed to do it with dancing warpers.
Do the units gain skills as they level up?
Only when they promote
Thank you
Oh how does radahn promote?
All protagonists will get special promotion items in story events that you can use when you want to promote.
Just finished TDA + SOD and I have to say I enjoy the storyline, it’s like you already planned a series for it, hopefully the third coming next year.
What I can say is that I wish character portraits are polished/tidied up more so they look more natural. Some recurring characters look bit weird mainly on their lower head/face parts (mainly cheeks and lips). TDA Eleanora looked great but her SOD portrait is bit off (some other recurring characters from TDA also looked off in SOD), unveiled Desserine’s full face looks rather deformed, and how Isabelle looks better than Cassandra portrait wise ticked me off, but Cassandra’s battle sprite is great.
Aside of that I think the rest of the unique stuffs listed for this romhack are fine. Again SOD gave a rather cliffhanger-ish ending in which the 3rd title will take place one decade after SOD it seems with how everything starts to crumble and Elyia is finally spotted by the Holy Dominion after 9 years.
Finish the trilogy pretty please.
Little ramble post having just finished the game:
This is the new high bar for FE hack writing. I’ve played almost every full length complete hack and never had a plot got me so hooked. On top of that the characters are compelling, complex, and just fun to be around!
as for game play it’s a huge step up from Dark Amulet and the 2 army structure lets you really lean into each characters strengths and weaknesses and helps you understand what can make a great team. Also, the unit design here is sick Walter obviously but I also found Maya and Mercer to be really interesting to play with. Even the late additions provide their own niche just brilliant.
the ending made me tear up, and I cannot wait to see what old friends return when we wrap up this trilogy.
This is a must play hack-seriously if you’re on the fence give it a shot. Playing DA first may enhance this experience but I think it’s perfectly playable without. Brilliant job Vorgus.
Hullo Vorgus. First of all I would like to congratulate you and your team for one of the most amazing uniquely put together stories in the fire emblem rom hack community. Amazing works, kudos to you all
Now on to the game itself, after reading the synopsis of the Dark Amulet, I felt it’s a game I would like so I played and I freaking loved it to the core. Every aspect about TDA was neatly crafted and beautifully made, I did struggle in the final chapter but Shorn and Edric gave me the satisfaction I needed. I always play my games making sure that nobody dies so the fact that majority of the characters are essential just made my gameplay way easier.
Now onto this one. Honestly speaking The Shadow of Dawn is an amazing game, glazing it is not even enough to express how much this game is amazing. After finishing the Dark Amulet, I decided to wait a while before starting this one and during my wait I play Illuminated (another amazing rom hack I recommend) so when I finally played this one and saw Alexias’ promoted class, I was more gased up.
Also, love the ending, can’t wait for the third game, if I start talking about the characters, I’ll type for a whole day but I would like to say that the characters I heavily depended on getting to the end were Radahn (overpowered protagonist that I absolutely loved), Cassandra (midway through I hated her for casting out Ricard), Lysa (most lethal unit that never got hit), Ricard (my beast, similar to my Hilda in The Dark Amulet), Maryam (Ultimate Swordmaster), Alexias, Hilda my Queen(my most powerful and dependable unit in both games), Sarai, and my boy Edric (shame he’s disappeared, I hope I see him in the third game though, fingers crossed)
Also my favorite song was song number 112 - FE3H - Chasing Daybreak.
Thanks so much for this experience Vorgus. And all the best with the preparation for the third game to complete the trilogy. Can’t wait for it
Found a small grammatical error. “We’ll get though this, together". Instead of “We’ll get through this, together”.
So I just finished the game and based on the comments here, we ARE getting a third entry then?
Madelina can’t keep getting away with it, she needs to be vanquished.
This has been my second favorite hack that I’ve played this year though, 1st place goes to The Hag in White but I definitely am very much wanting to play the third entry for this.
There’s a third and final game to this trilogy actively being worked on right now. The final showdown with Madelina is on its way!
Glad you enjoyed the game ![]()
Lets goooo im dying For waiting.
The streets are begging for Fenix and Gawain redemption arc in the next game
Hullo, Vorgus! Just finished playing The Dark Amulet and The Shadow of Dawn back to back and, wow, what a ride it has been. TDA didn’t immediately capture me, though I really got into it after a handful of chapters, but TSoD? Wow. Incredible from the start and it maintains that momentum throughout the entire game, getting better and better. A straight up improvement over TDA in every way.
I enjoyed playing through it, but what really stood out was the writing. The story was a great ride from start to finish, and the characters… oh man, the characters. By and large a very enjoyable cast, with Radahn, Walter, and Isaac being ones I particularly loved.
It was immediately clear that you took incredible care with Walter’s portrayal, I was absolutely stunned by how well written he was. His support with Graff, especially, really got me. He really is the goodest boy.
In regards to Isaac, the supports with Abrax really got me. You handled that topic incredibly as well, and the positive reception Abrax had towards Yiskah was genuinely heartwarming. Thank you for that.
As for Radahn… wow. I’m not going to go much into detail but I thoroughly enjoyed his journey. What a fantastic, well-written character with an equally development and growth. The cutscenes after defeating Hestephal, all the way through Cassandra talking with Serut in the gaiden chapter, had me incredibly emotional to the point that I cried a bit. What a way to write a loss, Vorgus. Mad props.
I’m way too damn eager for the final game of the trilogy and it’s already killing me that I have to wait a year, give or take, to play it. Keep cooking!
Hey @ThePurpleMoth - thank you for the kind words. I did all I could to try to bring the characters to life - not just Cassandra and Radahn, but the entire party of 35 of so heroes that face off against Hestephal and his machinations. Not to mention the nefarious Dawnsworn, too. Walter was a joy to write - just a fun mix of simpleminded and fully enlightened / selfless in all things. He actually strikes at the deep and real truth quite often in his conversations. There’s a lot going on up there.
Radahn was a blast to write because he’s in someways a very well known archetype, but he still manages to feel like his own character. Protagonist with partial amnesia - very old trope. Man on a mission of vengeance - also an old trope. But his journey as a hero and a human being feels very visceral and real to me. There’s a lot of grief and resignation, but through that this iron-hard perseverance that makes you root for him. In his last few chapters, he literally fighting off death through the power of revenge. His ending was planned from the start, and Im glad it landed for you ![]()
Alright, I admit it, you got me hooked. Honestly my favorite part about this one over TDA was that I actually felt like I got to use every character. Some definitely had more screentime than others, and I did have some favorites that I benched for supports, but overall every character got their time in the spotlight. Great job, and excited for Fire Emblem: From the Ashes.
Also my game just crashes after the character endings, so idk if something is supposed to happen after that.
