Hello there everyone! Welcome to The Radiant Stones (FE8:TRS) main post!

This is a light rebalance of FE8 featuring several select gameplay changes and much more.
Both of my own making as well as inspired by other mastercrafted hacks that I’m sure will be familiar during gameplay, and I hope you enjoy and have fun playing through it.

Gameplay Changes
  • First and foremost: TRS actually does not feature the Skill System, nor Str/Mag split. That’s right: the classic pure physical or pure magical classes! Don’t worry as this gameplay decision is fully balanced for the old school FE experience.
  • New classes (e.g. Hunters and Halberdiers) as well as weapons (e.g. full set of knives for Thief classes: from the humble Iron Knife to the S Rank Baselard). This also include slight overall rebalances of vanilla classes and weapons.
  • Shoving Mechanic: Infantry classes innately have Shove. Knights, Generals, Warriors and Berserkers instead have Smite. Cavalry/Fliers still retain Canto.
  • Related to the above, vanilla skills of FE8 are unchanged. It, along with other information, now documented on the in-game guide for more clarity of mechanics.
  • Enemy quality improved: Difficulty Stat Bonuses reverted to their harder Japanese values (basically flat +2 on all difficulties). Ch09 onwards enemies now always carry Steel/D Rank weapons. Finally Ch16 onwards all enemies are now promoted.
  • Select units have slightly reworked bases and growth rates, as well as new classes:
    Ross=Pirate, Neimi=Hunter, Kyle=Jouster, Amelia=Soldier, Ewan=Shaman, Dozla=Marauder, Tirado=Sergeant.
  • Phantoms are now NPC green units; Summoners will need to be more strategic and involved to effectively draw aggro when summoning them in battle.
  • Innate critical bonus of promoted mono-weapon classes increased from +15 to +30.
  • Experience gain for healing/dancing/stealing/summoning increased from 10 to 15.
  • Supports now are earned at up to three spaces away and are twice as fast.
  • Armories and Vendors all updated to accommodate the new weapons.
  • New sound tracks replacing select vanilla ones.
  • Optional Casual Mode at the start of the game.
  • Several QoL/Bug Fix patches, as well as new battle screen/status screen/minimugbox implemented. Credits of all works listed in the text file inside the download links.
  • Extra: Fixed Growths Mode patch available for download at post 10.

Items Overview

General Information

  • The same material on weapons now shares the same total uses.
  • Shamshir renamed to Wo Dao, now 30 durability but rest of stats the same.
  • Myrmidons/Swordmasters/Assassins/Wayfarers can equip the Wo Dao.
  • Short Bow is now 1 range, giving bow users the option to fight in melee.
  • Nidhogg is now 2-3 range, making it attractive to train bow users for the endgame.
  • Gleipnir now shares the same Anti-Monster effectiveness as all Sacred weapons.
  • Swordslayer removed from the game; sadly it would be very difficult to balance it over what counts as sword users (“Effective against Heroes even when they wield axes?”), all instances of it in vanilla now replaced with the Swordreaver instead.
  • Secret Book/Goddess Icon buffed from +2 to +4 Skill/Luck.
  • Tomes are now of considerable lower weight (except siege).

(Light Brand is now D Rank | Flux is now E Rank)
(All weapons/staves now grant at least 2 WEXP on attacks/casts)
(Lady Swords are very valuable: if you prefer to have Tethys focus on dancing only, you can sell them for massive profit instead, two in total are available)
(Extra items can be earned in the optional monster maps: for example, the final chest in the Lagdou Ruins now has a 20% chance of containing a Dragonstone)
(Keep a look out for Secret Shops with new goods)

That’s all of the most important pieces of information covered.
Enjoy FE8:TRS!

Final Notice

If by chance you liked TRS and yearn to start a project of your own making by using it as a base in some regard, you have my full approval to go for it! Whenever taking some of the weapons/classes as inspiration, or even making another hack on top of it (such as PMEs for example, as I’ve noticed these being quite in vogue on FEU right now).

One of the reasons being, of the difference between playable characters and all new classes, some actually end up being unplayable in TRS. It was, as a matter of fact, made with a mind that it could also be used as a base for other projects to be created, hence why it’s very light sized when patched to give room for that much more creative possibilities.

So if you did enjoy TRS and wants to start a project of your own with it, please don’t be afraid or shy of sending me a DM to talk about it! By all means take it easy.

This looks promising! Do you plan on adding a list of features of the hack, like something about skills?

For a moment I thought this was a POR demake. Ah well… still looks very visually appealing! I may have to try.

I was thinking that too! Like Blazing Stones but with PoR or RD

Thanks everyone! And I completely understand the initial confusion with the title lmao.

The reference to Tellius is more about some of the features implemented, like the shoving mechanic as well as the knives for the Thief classes.

And @DarkPrinceRick about what you asked:

Spoiler

There will be no Skill System implemented on TRS.
As well as no Str/Mag split. The classic pure physical or pure magical classes.
And yes, this is even MORE ironic considering the title of the project lmao.

The thing about the preview screenshot that showcases the list of skills on the in-game guide, is actually they are the same vanilla skills from FE8 (Great Shield/Pavise for Generals, Silencer/Lethality for Assassins, so on), while it was thanks to the Standalone Heroes Movement patch by both Stan and 7743 that the shoving mechanic was able to be implemented by itself separately from the skill system.

The credits for this patch, as well as every single others (QoL, Bug Fixes) and the new animations is one of the things that’s left for me to finish working on it’s proper Credits.txt file.
And then at last, FE8:TRS will be released! Again estimated this weekend.

This vanilla feels makes it even better in my opinion!

I’ve actually just started a personal hack to add some OCs me and a friend made for SS and I was struggling with how I wanted to change some things for a new experience but didn’t want Skill Emblem like other FE8 Hacks. And wow what perfect timing that this came along.

The vanilla feels make this a perfect fit. I might change some animations, specifically the Shaman ones cause I’m a sucker for the vanilla shamans and druids. As well as growth rates some more, particulary with the pre-promotes for my own personal enjoyment. But thank you so much for this! It’s really such a solid base and I’m looking forward to my next playthrough of the game after I finish this personal project.

I’d love to talk to you more via DM, but I have no idea how to send them on this site and made this account just to reply to this thread.

Oh, a new rebalance! I’ll definitely give it a try and provide feedback in the form of a brief review.
Edit: I really like that you added Casual mode. Is it possible to also add a Fixed Growths mode for this rebalance?

So I was actually planning to have Fixed Growths implemented as an option, but as it turns out the patch that makes it so only works if it’s together with the SkillSys also inserted.

Just so you and other FG players don’t feel left out, here’s an alternative download link that has the Fixed Growths Mode patch by TR143 fully implemented and always active. Enjoy!

Dropbox - Download Link [FG]

How Fixed Growths Work

Description by TR143, the creator of the FG patch:

“Stat growth is based a formula that uses your level and growth rates to determine what stats to give. The effect is that your growth rates add and you get a stat for each time they pass a multiple of 100. You start with a completely arbitrary 50 points to make the first level not always empty for most characters (and it also technically has a rounding effect on your average stats if you start from level 1) Because the stat gains are mathematically tied to the level (there is no actual memory of your total growth points) your characters will gain different first level-ups if you start them at different base levels.”

First Sacred Trilogy & Sacred War, then Project Jade & Sacred Stones Reforged, then Another Sacred Stones Remake with skill sets, now this?? Man FE8s rebalance romhacks have been on fire lately by the FE8 community and supporters. I wonder when the FE6 romhack community are going to respond on this one with their own. I know we had that Project Sienna romhack released last year I wonder what they have in store next. That aside along with the Tellius references, this romhack seems interesting especially the sprite reskins. Other than that along with half of the unit classes being different, this is just as vanilla like the OG Sacred Stones. Gonna play some more out of this rom and form my own opinion later on once I’ve get myself settled and finish playing the other Sacred Stones romhacks for a bit.

Where is Ike and the others? also imagine fire emblem sacredverse

What rom do you patch this with? Which fire emblem rom? Everytime I try to patch with fire emblem 8 rom it says invalid

Do you have a Fire Emblem 8 USA game?

That’s correct, and also @Elessar7 if you aren’t already using it, NUPS is I believe the most simple but effective program for patching .ups files, my personal recommendation.

Did you make changes in tower of valni and lagdou ruins?

The only changes were updating content of some chests, like the final one on Lagdou Ruins as mentioned in the OP and, also in the ruins, enemy Thieves are promoted to Rogues.

The rest, like enemy positioning of the monsters, is unchanged.

Is this game complete and how many chapters Total?

Complete! Same amount of chapters as vanilla FE8.

So it would be about 24 total if considering Prologue, Ch5x and both parts of the Finale.
And of course there’s also both branching routes as well as Creature Campaign.
