[FE8][Complete] Fire Emblem: Emulation Theory (SUPER DELUXE)

Spoiler

Summary

So, I read the Readme file, and it says that if you have Erika at level 20 before Chapter 19 in Part 3, you’ll get something. I made sure to get her to level 20 in Chapter 18, but now that I’m on Chapter 19, Mark says she wasn’t level 20, and I didn’t get any reward, even though she was lvl 20 before chapter 19. I downloaded and applied the latest patch, but I still got nothing.

Btw when do you get the reward for winning the duel in chapter 19? bc i won and didn’t get anything even though a waited for 3 turns for it to happen.

I’m having a great time with this game overall, and I definitely plan to finish it!

Summary

Yeah, mostly. i had to bench both Thea and Heath bc i had 0 whips, no even the chapter 17 secret shop sells it or at least not in the prior version. the only units that i promote are Gerik, Nino, L’arachel, Franz and Sue (though i benched her bc she’s a whole 4 speed and 3 atk below average yikes!). The pre-promotes of this game are really good even though they don’t get a second skill.

Take a look at my Dozzla, my boy is sending the enemy packing with his Silver axe and Tomahawk, best part? he doesn’t consume them while doing so.

Dayan isn’t really good a combat but he can do some decent damage with the silver bow or Mulgair, his main task is doing chip damage and supporting the team with rallies or rescue dropping, he also makes Gerik bulkier with his support.

Yoder is really good a doing chip damage thanks to high accuracy and high magic, he can occasionally one round some enemies here and there too. he’s a pretty good staff bot with physic and white pool is extremely useful for reaching one round thresholds with your other units.

My Shanna went crazy with her str levels, she got 3 str level ups in a row, she’s currently my only flier bc she’s the only one promote (i still haven’t gotten a single elysian whip somehow xd).

Ursula is bonkers, she has roughly the same offensive stats as my lvl 20/10 Nino but with sigthly better defenses and better luck. she’s 1 rounding almost every enemy on the map with ease. I think you should either buff Lloyd or tone down Ursula, because the decision between them is a no brainer. She has better offensive and defensive stats than he does, yet she’s three levels lower and has waaaay better growth rates. Plus, she’s a Valkyrie, which means 7 movement, Canto, and staff utility.

Seth was extremely helpful in the early to mid game, but he was sooo slow that i ended up just benching him, You should consider giving him his original Sacred Stones Speed growth rate and maybe a +1 boost to his base Speed. i was planing on using him long term,I thought he’d still be able to dish out some solid damage with Trample from Paladin level 10, even after his prime had passed. but given how slow he was, i give up the idea and benched him.

Potential Balance Changes?

On the topic of balance changes, definitely buff Lloyd. My Marisa who was level 18 when I promoted her that map was much better at everything compared to Lloyd. I found Lloyd unable to double most things, but he also wasn’t bulky or dodge tanky enough to be reliable on enemy phase. The next map after his recruitment, he struggles fighting the pirates, he does about 6 damage with an iron sword. Maybe the dodge tank part is my fault for playing on difficult classic mode, but at least give him more speed an strength. I did not end up using Yodel, I picked L’Arachel, but I found it annoying that Yodel got doubled by everything the second he joined. I noticed he got weighed down by the shine so his AS was 13, and most of the enemies had at least 17 speed. If Yodel got one more base speed or con, he would be a lot more helpful because he wouldn’t disintegrate the second the reinforcement wyverns looked at him. One again my fault for playing difficult classic, meaning I had to be extremely careful, but I don’t know how these changes would effect normal mode.

On that topic

IMO Lloyd isn’t supposed to be a replacement for a trained Marisa, i agree that his performance tends to be a bit on the low end, but otherwise he does fine as a backup swordmaster in case you took some loses along the game

I should’ve worded that thing differently. The “reward” you get is the Lunar Brace. At the start of each chapter in part 3, if your Eirika is level 20, Mark tells Eirika to use her bracelet in a conversation akin to the “you’re not level 20 yet” one. You didn’t lose anything of importance, except perhaps the opportunity of promoting her earlier.

I didn’t thought of the possibility of her getting to level 20 at the end of chapter 18! I have to take a look at that.

The reward is The Goddesslayer. You’ve got that, right? The boss doesn’t drop any weapon, unless you defeated him before opening the door. Again, it’s something that could’ve been worded better.

Balance answers

Lloyd has a… rough time on difficult mode. The hit bonus means he cannot dodge tank as nicely, and the other two infantry sword users (Gerik and Marisa) have Hard Mode bonuses that will definitely make them way better. His only redeeming quality is magic, but Ursula can heal too.

Marisa is supposed to be amazing in Difficult Mode. That’s not Lloyd’s fault.

While I do think he shouldn’t be better than a trained Marisa (SPECIALLY one with Hard Mode bonuses), he also should be a bit better than Ursula. It’s not good design to have the unit that requires stuff to be able to be recruited to be worse than the one you don’t need to do anything special.

By the way, how’s difficult mode? Surprised to hear someone got so far.

The part of me that wants to balance the game is saying that Seth shouldn’t be used all throughout the game, and that it’s good that he falls off. The narrative part of me wants Seth to be good all the game because he’s Seth Fire Emblem and the dissonance of Mark boot-licking him while he’s struggling is bad.

Early game balance requires him to have low speed, otherwise his strength gets absurd. A growth buff could be good, or perhaps to activate the xp boost that promoted units get in the first chapters like Sacred Stones does.

I’ll take a closer look to the promoted units, which this game has lots of.

Sword! when?

Don’t know! Which one?

Edit: 18 hours later, I have now just realised you mean factorial sword. Dear god I’m slow

I thought you actually said it as a joke, which makes the edit even funnier

Words cannot describe the sheer confusion I felt when I saw a message that I read as “Swords!! When?”, like what was I supposed to say? “Yes! Swords!”?

I ran into a bug on Chapter 26 where the bottom left door won’t open

Yes! Regarding chapter 26: Make sure to defeat all enemies before turn 5, otherwise a door won’t open and you won’t be able to complete the map. Whoops! A fix for this will come in the next patch.

Thanks for informing me!

Summary

I did kill him without opening the door, but he didn’t drop anything. I killed him while he was using his bow, maybe that’s why he didn’t drop his weapon?

Summary

Well, i agree he shouldn’t be better than a trained Marisa, but I also don’t think he should be this mid. He’s supposed to be a Camus archetype, right? At least that’s what his description says. he’s even slower than Ursula, like why?

You’re correct, the event straight up wasn’t working properly. Thanks for noticing me! You’re entitled to a weapon compensation. And no, the weapon that the victim was using matters not.

New patch. This one came out quick so the softlock can be fixed as soon as possible. I’ve also managed to fix a lot of missing rewards.

Full Notes
  • Fixed a softlock that occurred if you waited more than 5 turns to defeat all enemies in chapter 26.

  • Fixed an oversight that occurred if you leveled Eirika up to 20 in chapter 18.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented you from getting the reward for winning the duel in chapter 19.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented you from getting the reward for killing the boss in chapter 15.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented you from getting the glitched weapon of chapter 14.

  • Added a safenet in chapter 15 that gives the Ocean Seal to Myrrh if Uther has it at the end of the map.

  • Fixed some incorrect chapter objectives.

  • Increased Seth’s growth rates SLIGHTLY.

  • Increased Lloyd’s stats (Make them a bit similar to those he has in his first FE7 appearance, plus some points in some stats) and gave him actual growth rates.

  • Shifted Ursula’s stats to give her more of a “tanky mage” stats, decreasing her magic and speed. This is an overall nerf. Also leveled her up to 8.

  • Dozla now has returned to his vanilla Sacred Stones stats.

  • Slightly buffed Perceval (+1 SPD, +1 SKL, +5% DEF growth, +5% SKL growth, +5% HP growth).

  • Slightly nerfed Leila (-1 STR, -1 SKL).

  • Soldier and Soldier now have increased their growth rates to be a bit worse than those of enemy soldiers (as opposed to just WAY worse than enemy soldiers).

  • Chapter 25 now uses the other mountainous palette.

  • Ephraim chapters now have the proper Magvel preparations backgrounds.

  • Void 0 now no longers sells the “Evilest Eye” Glitched Item.

  • Clarified the secret events in the README.

At first I thought about including all the locations of the glitched items (just the chapter numbers, not a guide on how to get them) in the README, but I decided not to. They’re not THAT obscure, right? I wonder how many people got the one in Chapter 7.
