[FE8] [Complete] Fire Emblem: Crowns and Thrones

Thanks! I will look into it.

Okay, I hadn’t noticed that other link called “Crowns, Thrones and Rebellions”, so I clicked on it, played the game… And OH.MY.GOD. Dude, if only, IF ONLY Leon had been as strong of heart as Hubert was… The problems that could have been prevented, all the death. For real…

Nah, you’ve gained yourself a fan. I never watched or read Game of Thrones, but I wonder if this is how its fans feel while watching/reading it. I hope whatever project comes out after this one is at least half as good as this one, because it’s pure gold

Hello RandomMercenary, can I ask you something?
Where did you get the FE4 sprites from?

Some of them I got from a weird japanese website that I can’t seem to find anymore. They were ripped straight from FE4 and I made them insertable for febuilder myself.

However, the site did not have all FE4’s sprites, so I had to draw quite a few of them myself by starting the game up and pause/unpause the game to get every frame of each sprite.

It was a bit of a chore because they weren’t very available back when I started the project, but nowadays the resource repository has most of the FE4 animations available and insertable for febuilder.

Hi, how are you?
I was taking a look at the repository and I wanted to ask you if I can use the following map sprites from your project since I haven’t found them in the repository:
axe armor
lance armor
wyvern rider
Obviously I will leave you credits.

Sure, that’s totally fine!

Axe Armor

axe armr walk

Lance Armor

Lance armr walk

Wyvern rider hover2

Wyvern rider walk

Heyo, I came here after playing the prequel you made for the CELICA contest.

I started playing this game and I noticed that the feature to save every turn is missing here. It was one of the most helpful QoLs in there, and not having that makes the game feel considerably more daunting given the map sizes.

I know I could just use save states instead, but do you plan on adding the save every turn feature into this game at some point?

Actually yes, I am planning to add just that at some point in the future. Strange how I didn’t even thought about adding a save system during development. But the CELICA contest had some rules, so it forced me to add a save system. That’s when I realized how nice it actually is to have one while playing and not having to make savestates.

I agree with this idea of adding save point to the game. Considering the map size for this Hack! Glad you agree with it RandomMercenary

Just got to chapter 5, and I’m really confused by the second half. It seems like you’re forced to reset the first time you activate the hero reinforcements, and then on your next playthrough you just cheese the whole section by using rescue staffs. Am I missing the intended solution?

Spoilers

I am not entirely sure what you mean, but are you perhaps trying to save Henry? If so, I’ll let you know that it is supposed to be impossible to do so, which is as intended.
If that isn’t the case then could you explain further?

Spoilers

Wasn’t sure if Henry was supposed to die, partly due to access to rescue staffs and the ability to end the chapter quickly. As for saving him, the thickets that show up make things more difficult, but if you keep the priest above the thickets, you can rescue Henry with the two Cavs , and then rescue staff the Cav carrying him. Otherwise, I was almost able to seize both points before he died in my first run.

Hey, just finished the RomHack and I come here to write a feedback.

I loved the hack because I see you tried to experiment a lot of things both in the story and the gameplay (I should precise I didn’t play phantom kings yet but I definitely will).

Story

One of the thing I loved concerning the storytelling is the fact that in both part of the game, I was personnaly feeling I was fighting for the wrong side and on some chapters I was honnestly thinking “sorry guys, I honestly think you should win this battle but I need to make those idiots win in order to continue” (Leon from part 1 is a good guy but the number of bad decisions he made made me think it would definitely be for the better if Diponnegoro took the throne, and Reginald from part 2, while being a way better leader than Leon is way too hatable to make me think “Yeah, I want to help this guy to defend his throne”). Anyway I don’t know if this was intentionnal or not but I definitely think this is a very interesting perspective (actually, the only chapters where I was thinking “Ok, I want to make you win this battle”, were the gaiden chapters where I had to control the ennemy army which is, to my standarts closer of what we could call the good “side”).

Gameplay

Concerning the gameplay, well it was … innovative I guess. Honnestly I can’t say I’m a big fan of it but there were definitely a lot of good ideas. What I didn’t really like is the fact that none of what you’re doing on a chapter will affect the next one as everything is refreshed (except for commander unit). I think the system of putting you in command of few commanders and a lot of generics unit which should be seen more as ressources than characters is a good idea (I mean I suppose it reflect the reallity of the war) but I think it lack some way to reward you if you manage to win while minimising the loss (when I was playing I was like “Ok so anyway I will lose this soldier and all the item it possess at the end of the chapter so let’s take its most valuable weapon and goodbye dear deacoy unit you will be the shield of my commander unit”, maybe this also was intentionnal but I think there should be something to make you think twice before sacrificing any generic soldier, like a system of level up so it might be a shame to sacrifice a particular generic as it could actually become quite usefull). Another thing about the gameplay I noticed is that there is practically nothing stopping to just let one of your promoted unit kill a whole group of unpromoted unit. What I mean is that in fire emblem game even if your promoted unit could solo whole maps, this is not something you’ll want to do as it will be huge exp loss. (I remember of a chapter of part 2 where a huge group of wyvern riders eventually intercept your advance but at the same time 3 promoted unit joins you with one of them holding a wingcleaper or whatever is the name of this sword. Basically at this moment I just thought “ok so there is a forest just over there, let’s just put this guy there and he will basically dodge every single hit hit they’ll try to land as they are all using axes.” In the end he eventually solo the whole group of wyvern rider plus the boss and this is definitely not something I would allow myself to do in a classic fire emblem)
Well all of this beeing said, the gameplay had some good ideas but I think there are things that might be changed. Whatever you want to do with this, I give you a big “Bravo !” for having made a unique gameplay which goes outside of what we’re used to in fire emblem.

Other (also spoilers)

One last thing I noticed is that at the begining of part 2 the son of Dipponegoro (I don’t remember his name) got poisoned and I don’t think the answer on who actually did it is given at anytime (I first thought it was Reginald because he quickly became more and more influent after this and eventually became King, but there is no real proof so who knows…). I just thought it deserved to be highlighted.
I loved how in the end there are still some misteries like What is this unknown sword Guynyvere (not even sure this is her name, there are so many characters ^^) drop and why was this ninja girl looking for it. Also loved this little teaser with Walton, Lefric and Guynyvere at the end (Am I right to think you planned to make a sequel of this hack if I may ask ? If that’s the case, I’ll definitely play it too)

So all of this being said I really loved this hack (Have I said it ?) and also sorry for writting this much, I just wanted to make you know it.

Thanks for taking the time to write this! I’m glad to hear about your experience.

Spoilers

About the story: The feelings you described about the story are the ones I was going for, which is very satisfying to me.

About the gameplay: Although I’m satisfied with how the gameplay turned out, I do recognize the criticisms you made. Thank you for sharing those!

Other:

The truth will remain a mystery. :smirk:

I am indeed planning to create a story with Walton, Lefric and Gertruyde in the future. As for Mei (the ninja girl), she’s a character that my brother made for his story, which he might make a hack about in the future.

Thanks so much for your thoughts, I appreciate it!

Hello everyone!

I made a quick update for this hack today.

It now has an in-game save state mechanic that asks you every turn if you would like to save the game. I hope this makes the hack a little more approachable for everyone.

The new patch can be found by clicking the link in the OP.

Have a nice day.

Made an account just to comment on how much i liked this game.

Finished this today, just wanted to say it is VERY cool and i really enjoyed everything about it.

Really enjoyed the story (especially the first half)
Most Characters were nice, really enjoyed the Leon, Henry, Humphrey bros.

only thing i feel like i’m missing is The way everyone felt about Reginald most of his actions seemed about normal for the roles he played couple of moments were a little wacky (Walton you are mine lol)

Would have like more about Leon in the second half, but this was a 10 chapter hack so that’s understandable.

Loved the politics, World, Music, and Houses.

Of course the most unique part is the Commander Generic concept. I already miss it. I found it super fun and this is my favorite RomHack i’ve played.

After Chapter 4 I played the Prequel Hack and assumed Hubert would show up in the story. Also assumed there would be more on Leon’s first child but maybe i missed it.

Overall Very Awesome Game! Really loved it and its characters. Will be playing The phantom king next and am super excited for any other projects you make in the future. Very underrated definitely deserves more love. Played on Normal and only had two hard moments in the beginning but i’m not very great at fe. chapter 2x was the hardest for me.
